Overview
The LOGIC Heat Shrink (1m Red/1m Black) 3.0mm is an essential consumable for any RC enthusiast, hobbyist, or electronics professional working with small-gauge wiring and delicate connections. Whether you're building a brushless RC car in the UK, assembling a custom RC buggy, or working on any electronics project that requires professional cable management and insulation, this heat shrink tubing delivers the quality and reliability you need. Heat shrink is one of those products that separates amateur-looking builds from professional, neat installations—it protects soldered joints, provides colour-coded cable identification, and adds mechanical support to vulnerable wiring.
This pack contains two 1-metre lengths of premium heat shrink tubing: one red and one black. The 3.0mm nominal expanded diameter is sized to slip comfortably over 3mm diameter wire, making it perfect for battery leads, ESC connections, receiver wiring, and servo leads on RC cars, trucks, buggies and aircraft. Each length shrinks uniformly when heated to create a tight, protective seal that improves cable management and reduces wear at soldered connections. The dual-colour approach means you can colour-code your leads for positive and negative, making troubleshooting and maintenance faster and more professional.
LOGIC heat shrink from RC Model Shop is manufactured to exacting standards with flexible, flame-retardant material that maintains its integrity across a wide operating temperature range from -45°C to 125°C. This makes it suitable for use in everything from cold winter RC bashing sessions to hot summer racing events, and it performs reliably in the harsh conditions inside an RC vehicle where vibration, heat from motors and ESCs, and mechanical stress are constant challenges.
Key Features
- Flexible construction — The tubing remains flexible after shrinking, which means it won't crack or become brittle even when bent around tight corners or under mechanical stress during vehicle operation, ensuring long-term durability and protection of your wiring.
- Flame-retardant material — In the unlikely event of accidental contact with high heat or flame, the tubing resists ignition and limits smoke production, providing a critical safety margin in hobby electronics applications where battery failures or short circuits could occur.
- Wide operating temperature range -45°C to 125°C — This extreme temperature tolerance means your heat shrink will perform reliably whether you're storing your RC car in an unheated garage through winter or running it in direct sunlight on a hot summer's day, covering every condition UK RC hobbyists encounter throughout the year.
- Low smoke if burned — Should the heat shrink be exposed to extreme heat, it produces minimal smoke, making it safer for indoor use and reducing air quality concerns in hobby workshops and indoor RC racing facilities.
- Shrink temperature 125°C — The tubing activates and shrinks at 125°C, which is a temperature easily achieved with a standard heat gun, hair dryer on high heat, or even careful use of a soldering iron—no specialised equipment required for professional results.
- Generous 2-metre total length — Two 1-metre lengths give you plenty of material for multiple projects or repairs, reducing the need for frequent reordering and ensuring you always have heat shrink on hand for your RC hobby.
- Dual colour provision — One metre of red and one metre of black allows you to establish a consistent colour-coding system across all your RC vehicles and electronics projects, dramatically improving safety and reducing troubleshooting time during maintenance and repairs.
- Professional finish — Heat shrink creates a neat, polished appearance that transforms rough soldered connections into something that looks factory-finished, significantly improving the aesthetic quality of your RC builds and installations.
Technical Performance
The 3.0mm LOGIC Heat Shrink delivers consistent, reliable performance across all typical RC hobby applications. The un-shrunk (expanded) diameter of 3.6mm means the tubing slides easily over wire up to approximately 3mm diameter—the internal diameter is nominally around 20% larger than the quoted size according to manufacturer guidance, providing comfortable fit without forcing or stretching during application. Once activated by heat, the tubing shrinks to a recovered diameter of 1.2mm, creating a tight seal that provides mechanical protection and electrical insulation. The lay flat width of 5.7mm gives you a clear indication of the tubing's cross-section when measuring or planning your installation. The shrink ratio of approximately 3:1 means the 3.6mm expanded tube reliably recovers to around 1.2mm, ensuring consistent results across every application. This makes it ideal for RC cars, buggies, trucks and aircraft where exposed wiring must be protected from dirt, moisture, vibration and abrasion. The flexible, flame-retardant polymer construction maintains its protective qualities across the full -45°C to 125°C operating range, encompassing every temperature condition encountered in UK RC racing, bashings, and long-term storage. Whether you're assembling a brushless 4WD RC monster truck with multiple battery and ESC connections, wiring a delicate RC aircraft receiver, or building a scale RC crawler with intricate electronics, this heat shrink provides the professional-grade insulation and cable management solution that serious hobbyists demand.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What size wire does 3.0mm heat shrink fit over? — The 3.0mm heat shrink has an un-shrunk expanded diameter of 3.6mm, which means it comfortably fits over wire approximately 3mm in diameter. The manufacturer specifications confirm that the inside diameter is around 20% larger than the nominal size, so this tubing will easily slide over standard 3mm diameter cable without forcing or stretching, making application quick and hassle-free.
- How do I activate and shrink the tubing? — Simply apply heat at around 125°C using a heat gun, hair dryer on high setting, or carefully with a soldering iron. Start from one end and work along the tubing, allowing it to shrink uniformly as you apply heat. The tubing will tighten around the wire automatically as it reaches its activation temperature, creating a protective seal in just a few seconds per application.
- Is this suitable for battery leads and ESC connections on my RC car? — Yes, absolutely. LOGIC Heat Shrink is commonly used throughout the RC hobby for insulating and protecting high-current connections on brushless RC cars, trucks, buggies and aircraft. The flexible material withstands the vibration and mechanical stress of normal RC operation, and the temperature range from -45°C to 125°C covers the thermal conditions inside any RC vehicle, making it ideal for battery connectors, ESC leads, and motor wires.
- What is the difference between this 3.0mm and other sizes in the LOGIC range? — LOGIC offer heat shrink in multiple sizes from 1.5mm up to 90mm expanded diameter to accommodate different wire gauges and applications. The 3.0mm size is optimised for small-gauge wiring typical of RC receivers, servos, sensor leads and delicate electronics. Larger sizes like 4.0mm, 5.0mm and 6.0mm are better suited to battery leads and motor connectors on higher-powered RC vehicles, whilst smaller sizes like 1.5mm and 2.0mm work better for individual servo lead insulation.
- Can I use this on battery connectors and high-current applications? — Heat shrink provides insulation and protection but does not carry the electrical load itself. For battery connectors and high-current ESC leads, use appropriate crimp connectors (such as XT90, XT60, or EC3 connectors designed for your battery capacity) and then cover the joint with heat shrink for added mechanical protection and safety. The heat shrink adds a layer of insulation that prevents accidental contact with exposed metal.
- Is this flame-retardant heat shrink safe for indoor use? — Yes. The flame-retardant material resists ignition if accidentally exposed to high heat, and it produces low smoke if burned, making it safe for use in hobby workshops and indoor RC facilities. However, never deliberately expose heat shrink to open flame or extreme heat—use only the recommended 125°C activation temperature.
- How long will the heat shrink last once applied? — Once properly shrunk and cooled, the heat shrink remains effective for years under normal RC operating conditions. The flexible polymer maintains its protective properties across the full -45°C to 125°C temperature range, so your insulation will remain intact whether your RC car is stored through a cold UK winter or run during hot summer racing events.
