Overview
The LOGIC Heat Shrink (1m Red/1m Black) 1.5mm O-LG-HS01 is an essential accessory for any RC enthusiast working with small-diameter wiring and connectors. Whether you're building a custom RC car in the UK, assembling a brushless RC setup, or maintaining your existing radio-controlled models, quality heat shrink tubing is fundamental to creating professional-looking, durable electrical connections. This pack provides two 1-metre lengths of premium heat shrink in contrasting red and black colours, allowing you to colour-code your circuits for easy identification and troubleshooting.
Heat shrink tubing is a critical component in RC electronics, protecting solder joints, preventing accidental shorts, providing mechanical protection to delicate wiring, and offering a neat, finished appearance to your builds. The 1.5mm size makes this pack ideal for fine-detailed work on small-gauge wires commonly found in receiver leads, servo connections, and precision soldering applications. Whether you're a seasoned RC competitor fine-tuning a race-ready setup or a hobbyist building your first custom RC project, reliable heat shrink tubing ensures your electrical work remains protected and professional for years to come.
Manufactured by LOGIC RC, a trusted name in RC accessories and components, this heat shrink tubing meets the exacting standards expected by UK RC retailers and serious modellers alike. The flexibility, flame-retardant properties, and consistent shrink ratio make it an industry-standard choice for protecting everything from battery connectors to motor leads in brushless RC cars, helicopters, quadcopters, and other RC vehicles.
Key Features
- Dual-colour pack with contrasting red and black tubing — The inclusion of both red and black allows you to colour-code your electrical circuits according to your own system or industry standards, making it easy to identify positive and negative connections at a glance and significantly reducing the risk of wiring errors during assembly or maintenance.
- Ideal 1.5mm diameter for fine, precision work — This size is specifically designed for small-gauge wiring and delicate connections found in RC electronics, making it perfect for protecting servo leads, receiver connections, and tight spaces where larger heat shrink would be impractical.
- Flexible and durable construction — The flexible nature of the tubing allows it to conform to irregular wire shapes and complex routing paths without cracking or splitting, ensuring long-lasting protection even in high-vibration RC applications.
- Flame-retardant properties — The tubing is manufactured with flame-retardant characteristics, providing an additional safety layer to your electrical connections and reducing the risk of fire propagation in the unlikely event of electrical failure.
- Low smoke emission if burned — Unlike cheaper alternatives, this heat shrink produces minimal smoke if exposed to high temperatures or flame, protecting both your model and your workshop environment.
- Wide operating temperature range — Rated to function safely from -45°C to 125°C, this tubing maintains its integrity in extreme conditions, from winter outdoor RC bashing in the UK to the heat generated by high-performance brushless motors.
- Reliable 3:1 shrink ratio — The consistent shrink ratio ensures predictable results every time; the 1.8mm expanded diameter shrinks to approximately 0.6mm, providing tight, secure insulation around your wiring.
- Professional appearance — Heat shrink creates a clean, finished look to your RC builds that far exceeds the aesthetic of electrical tape or bare solder joints, whether you're displaying your model or competing at RC events.
- Generously sized 1-metre lengths — Each colour is provided in a full 1-metre length, giving you plenty of material for multiple connections and reducing the need to purchase additional packs for all but the most extensive projects.
Technical Performance
The LOGIC Heat Shrink tubing is engineered to the highest standards expected in RC hobby electronics. With an un-shrunk (expanded) diameter of 1.8mm, the tubing is sized to slide comfortably over wires with a nominal diameter of around 1.5mm. The inside diameter at the expanded state is approximately 20% larger than the nominal size, allowing easy installation without stretching or damaging the tubing before heat is applied. Once heat is applied using a heat gun, soldering iron, or lighter, the tubing undergoes a reliable 3:1 shrink ratio, recovering to a tight diameter of approximately 0.6mm. The lay-flat width of 2.8mm provides a reference for assessing the tubing's dimensions when flat, which equals roughly 1.57 times the internal diameter—this measurement is useful for applications where you need to know the width of the tubing before shrinking. The material is constructed to be flexible even when shrunk, maintaining its protective properties without becoming brittle or cracking, even in high-vibration RC environments such as those found in brushless RC cars, off-road buggies, and other demanding hobby applications. The flame-retardant composition and low-smoke characteristics make this tubing a responsible choice for workshop safety, whilst the operating temperature range of -45°C to 125°C ensures performance across all UK climates and conditions. The shrink activation temperature of 125°C is safely achievable with standard heat application tools without risk of burning through or damaging the tubing itself.

Your Guide to Heat Shrink Sizing
Understanding heat shrink tubing dimensions is essential for selecting the correct size for your project. LOGIC RC Heat Shrink sizes are quoted as nominal expanded (or pre-shrunk) dimensions. The inside diameter at the expanded state is approximately 20% larger than the nominal size, meaning that 1.5mm heat shrink tubing can comfortably fit over a wire that's up to around 1.5mm in diameter. The shrink ratio is approximately 3:1, so a 1.5mm tube will recover or shrink to around 0.5mm when heat is applied. The lay-flat size (the width of the tube when squashed flat) equals the internal diameter multiplied by approximately 1.57, so for 1.5mm tubing, the lay-flat width is approximately 2.8mm. This sizing guide helps you select the perfect heat shrink for any application in your RC builds.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is 1.5mm heat shrink suitable for all my RC wiring needs? — The 1.5mm size is ideal for fine, precision work including receiver leads, servo connections, and small-gauge wiring common in RC electronics. For thicker battery cables or motor leads, you may want to consider larger sizes such as 2.0mm, 3.0mm, or larger from the LOGIC RC range, all available from RC Model Shop.
- How do I apply heat shrink tubing correctly? — Slide the tubing over your wire or connector before soldering, then after soldering and allowing the joint to cool, apply heat from a heat gun, soldering iron, or lighter to activate the shrink. The tubing will contract tightly around the wire, usually within 3-5 seconds of sustained heat application. Take care not to overheat or you may damage the wire insulation underneath.
- What is the shrink ratio of LOGIC RC heat shrink? — The shrink ratio is approximately 3:1, meaning the tubing will shrink to roughly one-third of its expanded diameter. For this 1.5mm tubing, the expanded diameter of 1.8mm will shrink to approximately 0.6mm.
- Can I use this heat shrink in extreme temperatures? — Yes, LOGIC RC heat shrink is rated to function safely from -45°C to 125°C, making it suitable for outdoor RC bashing in cold UK winters and for use with high-performance brushless motors that generate significant heat.
- Why do I need colour-coded heat shrink? — Colour-coded heat shrink (red for positive, black for negative, or according to your own system) allows you to quickly identify circuit connections during assembly, troubleshooting, and maintenance, significantly reducing the risk of wiring errors in complex RC setups.
- Is this heat shrink flame-retardant? — Yes, LOGIC RC heat shrink is manufactured with flame-retardant properties and produces low smoke if burned, providing an additional safety layer to your RC electronics and workshop environment.
- How much tubing is included? — You receive 1 metre of red heat shrink and 1 metre of black heat shrink, for a total of 2 metres of protective tubing, which is sufficient for numerous connections across multiple RC projects.
- Can I use LOGIC RC heat shrink with other brands' RC components? — Absolutely. Heat shrink tubing is a universal component compatible with all RC brands, motor types, speed controllers, and receivers. Whether you're working with Traxxas, ARRMA, Losi, or any other RC brand, this tubing will protect your connections.
