Frequently Asked Questions
- What KV rating does this brushless RC motor have and what does it mean? — This motor features a 3200KV rating, which indicates that the motor will rotate 3200 revolutions per minute for every volt applied to it under no-load conditions. Higher KV ratings provide faster acceleration and higher top speed but consume more current, whilst lower KV ratings deliver more torque at lower speeds. The 3200KV specification represents a mid-range setting suitable for competitive racing applications where balanced acceleration and speed are desired.
- Is this motor suitable for beginners to RC cars? — Whilst the Spektrum Firma 3660 3200KV motor is a high-quality component, it is best suited to intermediate and advanced RC enthusiasts with experience in motor selection, ESC compatibility, and drivetrain setup. Beginners may prefer ready-to-run RC cars UK retailers stock, as upgrading individual motor components requires understanding of electrical systems, battery compatibility, and installation procedures. However, if you have prior experience with RC cars and wish to upgrade a chassis, this brushless motor is an excellent choice.
- What battery does this brushless motor require? — The SPM 1206-3900Kv motor is rated for 3S LiPo battery configuration, which provides 11.1V nominal voltage. You will need a compatible 3S LiPo battery pack with appropriate capacity (typically 1500-5000mAh depending on your RC car's size and weight) and an ESC rated to handle the current draw of this motor combined with your chosen battery.
- What is the difference between this Spektrum motor and other brushless motors? — The Spektrum Firma 3660 3200KV motor is distinguished by Spektrum's reputation for quality manufacturing, precision engineering, and reliability. The 3200KV rating and 4-pole brushless construction deliver smooth, efficient operation compared to lesser-quality alternatives. The motor's 1150W power output on 3S provides strong performance, whilst the standard 4mm bullet connectors ensure compatibility with most ESC systems used in competitive RC racing.
- What size RC car is this motor designed for? — The 3660 motor size is versatile and suitable for various 1/10 scale and smaller RC car platforms. Specific chassis compatibility depends on your vehicle's motor mount design and available space. It is essential to verify that your chassis supports 3660 motor installation before purchasing upgrade components.
- Is this a brushless or brushed motor? — This is a brushless motor, which means it features electronic commutation via an ESC rather than physical carbon brushes. Brushless motors offer superior efficiency, lower maintenance requirements, cooler operation, and longer service life compared to brushed alternatives, making them the preferred choice for serious RC enthusiasts.
- What is the motor's output power specification? — The motor delivers 1150W of continuous power output when supplied with 3S LiPo voltage. This power specification ensures sufficient performance for competitive track racing, off-road racing, and aggressive driving styles on various UK RC racing surfaces.
