Key Features
- 48-Pitch Specification — The 48-pitch measurement ensures compatibility with high-performance RC drivetrains and allows for precise gear ratio calculations and performance tuning. This specification is essential for maintaining proper mesh with compatible spur gears and ensures smooth power transmission throughout your RC car's drivetrain system.
- 36-Tooth Configuration — This tooth count delivers an optimal balance between acceleration and top-speed performance, making it suitable for a wide range of track conditions and driving styles. The specific tooth count has been engineered to work in harmony with standard spur gear ratios found in competitive RC cars.
- Aluminium 7075 Construction — Aircraft-grade 7075 aluminium alloy provides exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, ensuring the gear can handle the immense stresses of high-performance driving without unnecessary added mass. This premium material choice means better acceleration response and more efficient power delivery throughout your RC car's drivetrain.
- Precision Engineering — Every tooth is machined to exacting tolerances, guaranteeing consistent engagement with your spur gear and eliminating the play or slop that can develop in lower-quality components. This precision translates directly to smoother acceleration, more reliable power delivery, and predictable handling characteristics on the track.
- Professional-Grade Quality — Fastrax components are trusted by competitive RC racers across the globe who depend on absolute reliability and consistent performance. This pinion gear meets the same quality standards expected in professional racing applications, ensuring you're investing in a component built to last.
- Drivetrain Optimization — By choosing the right pinion gear ratio, you can fine-tune your RC car's performance characteristics to match your specific track layout, driving style, and performance objectives. This gear provides one of the key variables in optimising your complete drivetrain system.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax 48Dp 36T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear represents the pinnacle of RC drivetrain component engineering. Manufactured from aerospace-grade 7075 aluminium alloy, this pinion gear combines exceptional durability with minimal weight, delivering superior acceleration response and energy efficiency compared to standard steel alternatives. The 48-pitch specification indicates this gear is designed for modern high-performance RC cars, and the 36-tooth count creates a balanced gear ratio that works effectively across various driving scenarios and track conditions. The precision machining process ensures that every tooth maintains perfect geometry and engagement characteristics, eliminating the tolerance stacking that plagues inferior components. This level of precision means your RC car's drivetrain operates with optimal smoothness, reduced vibration, and maximum power transfer efficiency. The aluminium construction delivers a significant weight advantage over traditional steel gears, which directly translates to improved acceleration, better power delivery response, and enhanced overall vehicle dynamics. For competitive racers and dedicated enthusiasts building high-performance RC cars in the UK, this pinion gear is an investment in reliability, consistency, and performance optimisation that pays dividends in lap times and driving confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a 48-pitch pinion gear and why does it matter for my RC car? — The pitch specification (48-pitch in this case) refers to the spacing between gear teeth and is a critical measurement for ensuring proper compatibility between pinion gears and spur gears in your drivetrain. Using the correct pitch specification is essential for achieving proper mesh, smooth power transmission, and preventing drivetrain damage. The 48-pitch standard is widely used in modern RC cars and offers excellent compatibility with contemporary high-performance vehicles.
- How does the 36-tooth count affect my RC car's performance? — The tooth count directly determines your gear ratio and therefore your vehicle's acceleration and top-speed balance. A 36-tooth pinion gear represents a popular middle-ground configuration that works well for many track layouts and driving styles. Lower tooth counts accelerate faster but sacrifice top speed, whilst higher tooth counts do the opposite. The 36-tooth configuration offers versatility for different racing scenarios.
- Why is 7075 aluminium better than steel for pinion gears? — Aerospace-grade 7075 aluminium offers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio compared to traditional steel gears. This means you get superior durability and reliability whilst keeping drivetrain weight minimal. The reduced weight improves acceleration response, reduces rotating mass, and contributes to better overall vehicle dynamics. Additionally, aluminium naturally dissipates heat more efficiently, keeping your drivetrain cooler during extended running sessions.
- Is this pinion gear suitable for beginners learning about RC cars? — This is a professional-grade component designed for serious enthusiasts and competitive racers rather than complete beginners. If you're new to RC cars in the UK, we'd recommend starting with a ready-to-run RC car package that includes a properly configured drivetrain. However, if you're already familiar with RC car maintenance and are looking to upgrade or replace a worn component, this Fastrax gear represents an excellent choice that will serve you reliably for years of racing.
- What compatibility do I need to check before purchasing this pinion gear? — You must verify that your RC car's motor and drivetrain system uses a 48-pitch specification to ensure compatibility. Additionally, check your vehicle's documentation to confirm the pinion shaft size and type. Some vehicles use different shaft standards or adapters, so confirming these details before purchase ensures you receive a component that fits your specific RC car without requiring additional adapters or modifications.
- How often will I need to replace this pinion gear? — With proper maintenance and appropriate use, a quality Fastrax pinion gear will provide thousands of kilometres of reliable service. However, if you notice worn or chipped teeth, increased drivetrain noise, or poor engagement with your spur gear, replacement may be necessary. Regular inspection as part of your RC car maintenance routine will help identify wear before it causes additional drivetrain damage.
