Overview

The Fastrax 48Dp 35T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear is a precision-engineered component designed for RC enthusiasts who demand reliability and performance from their radio-controlled vehicles. Whether you're running a competitive RC car in the UK or simply enjoying weekend bashing sessions, this pinion gear represents the perfect replacement or upgrade option for your drive system. Manufactured from premium 7075 aluminium alloy, this component delivers exceptional durability whilst maintaining the lightweight characteristics essential for optimal RC performance.

This 48-pitch pinion gear with 35 teeth is engineered to integrate seamlessly into existing RC car setups, offering enthusiasts the flexibility to fine-tune their vehicle's gearing and performance characteristics. RC hobbyists across the United Kingdom trust Fastrax components for their consistent quality and reliability, and this pinion gear is no exception. The aluminium construction ensures longevity under demanding driving conditions, making it an excellent investment for anyone serious about maintaining and optimising their RC car.

Available from RC Model Shop, this component is suitable for both experienced RC racers and dedicated hobbyists looking to maintain or upgrade their vehicles. The straightforward installation process means you can quickly integrate this gear into your setup and get back to enjoying your RC experience without unnecessary downtime or complexity.

Key Features

  • 48-Pitch Specification — The 48-pitch rating indicates the gear's precise tooth profile, which is critical for smooth meshing with your vehicle's motor pinion and ensuring efficient power transmission from your motor to the drive system. This specification ensures compatibility with other 48-pitch components in your RC setup.
  • 35-Tooth Count — The 35-tooth configuration allows you to adjust your vehicle's final drive ratio, enabling you to optimise performance for different driving conditions and terrain types. Whether you need more top speed or improved acceleration, adjusting tooth count is a fundamental tuning method for RC enthusiasts.
  • Premium 7075 Aluminium Construction — This aerospace-grade aluminium alloy is renowned for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and outstanding durability. Unlike softer metals, 7075 aluminium resists wear and deformation, ensuring your gear maintains precise tolerances even after extended use on demanding tracks or off-road terrain.
  • Lightweight Design — The aluminium construction keeps rotating mass to a minimum, which improves acceleration response and reduces strain on your motor and transmission components. Every gram matters in RC performance, and this gear's efficient design contributes to overall vehicle dynamics.
  • Reliable Fastrax Brand Quality — Fastrax is a recognised manufacturer of quality RC components trusted across the UK hobby community. This pinion gear reflects the brand's commitment to precision engineering and customer satisfaction.

Technical Performance

The Fastrax 48Dp 35T Pinion Gear represents a significant component in your RC car's power delivery system. Precision gearing is absolutely fundamental to RC performance, as the relationship between your motor, pinion gear, and spur gear directly determines your vehicle's speed, acceleration, and overall efficiency. This 48-pitch, 35-tooth pinion is manufactured to exacting tolerances to ensure perfect mesh with compatible spur gears and motor pinions. The 7075 aluminium alloy specification is particularly important because it provides the hardness necessary to withstand repeated engagement cycles without tooth stripping or deformation — a common failure point in lower-quality gears. The material also exhibits excellent fatigue resistance, meaning the gear maintains its structural integrity even under the continuous stress of competitive racing or high-speed running. The lightweight nature of aluminium means that replacing a steel pinion with this component can actually improve your vehicle's overall performance by reducing rotational inertia and allowing your motor to spool up more quickly. For RC cars using brushless motor systems with electronic speed controllers, precision gear engagement is especially critical because modern brushless systems deliver power with incredible consistency, and any gear slack or wear can result in power loss or unpredictable handling. The 35-tooth configuration provides a specific gear ratio that, when paired with appropriately-sized spur gears, allows you to fine-tune your RC car's performance characteristics across various driving conditions — higher tooth counts generally favour acceleration, whilst lower counts favour top speed.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a pinion gear and why do I need to replace it? — A pinion gear is the small gear attached to your RC motor that meshes with the larger spur gear in your transmission. Over time, pinion gears can wear, strip teeth, or become damaged through normal use. Replacing your pinion gear restores proper power transmission and prevents damage to your spur gear. Many RC enthusiasts also swap pinion gears to adjust their vehicle's gear ratio and optimise performance for specific tracks or driving styles.
  • How do I know if this 35-tooth pinion is right for my setup? — The 35-tooth configuration must be paired with a compatible spur gear to achieve your desired overall gear ratio. Your RC car's manual will specify compatible gear ratios, and most RC shops in the UK can advise on appropriate combinations. Generally, a 35-tooth pinion offers a good balance between acceleration and top speed for general-purpose driving and casual racing.
  • Why is 7075 aluminium better than other materials? — 7075 is an aerospace-grade aluminium alloy chosen specifically for its strength and durability. It resists wear better than softer aluminium alloys, maintains precision longer under stress, and is less prone to tooth stripping or deformation. This means your gear will perform reliably for longer and maintain consistent mesh quality with your spur gear.
  • Will this pinion gear fit my RC car? — The 48-pitch specification is a universal standard in RC cars, and this pinion will fit any vehicle designed to accept 48-pitch gears. However, you must ensure the 35-tooth count is compatible with your vehicle's transmission specifications. Check your RC car's manual or contact RC Model Shop for guidance on compatibility with your specific model.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst pinion gear replacement is a straightforward maintenance task for anyone with basic mechanical ability and a suitable gear puller tool, this product is more suited to hobbyists who already understand RC car maintenance and setup. Beginners should consider seeking advice from experienced RC enthusiasts or visiting a local RC shop before attempting gear replacement.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — The lifespan depends on your driving intensity and maintenance habits. High-competition use may require gear replacement every few months, whilst casual recreational driving might allow gears to last much longer. Regular inspection for tooth wear or damage is the best way to determine when replacement is necessary.
