The Fastrax 48Dp 29T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear FAST48-29 is a precision-engineered component designed for serious RC enthusiasts who demand reliability and performance from their RC car setups. Whether you're a dedicated racer, weekend basher, or someone building a custom RC vehicle in the UK, this pinion gear represents the perfect balance of durability, precision engineering and affordability. Fastrax has earned a reputation as a trusted supplier of quality RC parts and accessories, and this pinion gear exemplifies their commitment to delivering components that withstand the rigours of competitive racing and recreational driving alike.
Pinion gears are critical components in any RC drivetrain, directly affecting acceleration, top speed and overall handling characteristics of your vehicle. The tooth count on a pinion gear determines your final drive ratio—a 29-tooth configuration strikes an excellent balance for a wide range of RC applications and driving styles. Whether you're upgrading your current setup, replacing a worn component, or fine-tuning your RC car's performance, investing in a quality pinion gear like this one from Fastrax ensures you're getting a component that will deliver consistent performance lap after lap, bash after bash.
Built from premium aluminium 7075 alloy, this pinion gear combines exceptional strength with lightweight construction, making it ideal for both track racing and off-road RC adventures across the UK and beyond. The 48-pitch specification ensures compatibility with a wide range of RC cars and drivetrain systems, making this a versatile upgrade option for RC enthusiasts of all experience levels.
Key Features
- 48-Pitch Specification — The 48DP (diametral pitch) rating means this gear is designed to mesh precisely with other 48-pitch gears in your RC drivetrain, ensuring smooth power delivery and minimal backlash for responsive handling and consistent acceleration performance.
- 29-Tooth Configuration — With 29 teeth, this pinion gear provides an excellent tooth count for balanced performance across various driving conditions, offering a good compromise between acceleration and top speed suitable for both competitive racing and recreational bashing.
- Aluminium 7075 Construction — This pinion gear is manufactured from premium aluminium 7075 alloy, which is recognised as one of the strongest aluminium materials available for precision engineering applications, delivering superior strength-to-weight ratio that resists stripping and extends component lifespan.
- Precision Engineering — Every tooth is machined to exacting standards, ensuring perfect meshing with your RC car's spur gear and delivering smooth, vibration-free power transmission that translates directly into better handling and more predictable vehicle behaviour.
- Lightweight Design — The aluminium construction keeps unsprung weight to an absolute minimum, which improves your RC car's acceleration and reduces strain on your motor and drivetrain components during intense driving sessions.
- Universal Compatibility — The 48-pitch standard makes this pinion gear compatible with numerous RC car platforms and drivetrain configurations, making it an excellent choice as a replacement part or upgrade component for your existing RC setup.
- Durability and Reliability — Fastrax components are engineered to withstand the demands of serious RC driving, from competitive track racing to aggressive off-road bashing, ensuring this gear will perform reliably whether you're racing on smooth tarmac or tackling rough terrain.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax 48Dp 29T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear represents the pinnacle of precision component engineering for RC car enthusiasts. The 48-pitch specification is industry-standard for many modern RC vehicles, ensuring compatibility with a vast selection of spur gears and drivetrain configurations available in the UK RC market. The 29-tooth count is particularly versatile, offering drivers a balanced driving experience that doesn't compromise heavily on either acceleration or top speed—this makes it suitable for varied driving styles and track conditions. The choice of aluminium 7075 as the construction material is significant; this alloy is aerospace-grade and offers exceptional tensile strength whilst remaining lightweight, which is crucial for RC applications where every gram matters. The precision machining process ensures that each tooth profile is identical and perfectly meshed with complementary gears in your drivetrain, eliminating unwanted backlash and vibration that could otherwise compromise handling response. This level of engineering excellence means your RC car will accelerate more smoothly, respond more predictably to steering inputs, and maintain consistent performance throughout extended driving sessions. Whether you're running a brushless or brushed motor setup, this pinion gear will integrate seamlessly into your existing drivetrain architecture.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why do I need to upgrade mine? — A pinion gear is the small driving gear mounted on your RC car's motor shaft that transfers power to the larger spur gear in your drivetrain. Upgrading to a quality pinion gear like this Fastrax component improves acceleration, consistency and responsiveness. Many drivers upgrade when their existing gear shows signs of wear (tooth stripping), when they want to adjust their vehicle's performance characteristics, or when switching between different motor configurations.
- Will this 29-tooth pinion fit my RC car? — This is a 48-pitch gear, so it will fit any RC vehicle that uses a 48-pitch drivetrain specification. Before purchasing, check your current pinion gear or your RC car's manual to confirm the pitch rating. The 29-tooth specification is extremely common and compatible with hundreds of RC car models from leading manufacturers, making it a safe upgrade choice for most vehicles.
- How does the 29-tooth count affect my RC car's performance? — Tooth count directly affects your final drive ratio and therefore your vehicle's balance between acceleration and top speed. A 29-tooth pinion is considered a balanced configuration—it doesn't sacrifice too much acceleration for speed, or vice versa. If you want faster acceleration, you'd step down to fewer teeth (like 27T or 25T), but with fewer teeth your top speed decreases. Conversely, more teeth (like 31T or 33T) favour top speed but reduce acceleration. The 29T is ideal if you're unsure which direction to go or if you drive varied track layouts.
- Why is aluminium 7075 better than steel or plastic alternatives? — Aluminium 7075 offers an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio that's superior to standard aluminium alloys and competitive with steel, but significantly lighter. This means better acceleration response, reduced motor strain, and extended component lifespan. Plastic alternatives are lighter still but lack durability for sustained high-performance driving. Fastrax's choice of 7075 aluminium represents the sweet spot between performance and longevity.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. Whilst this is a precision component that serious racers appreciate, it's equally suitable for beginners upgrading their first RC car. Installing a quality pinion gear from the outset sets you up for better performance and more enjoyable driving experiences. The upgrade process is straightforward if you're comfortable performing basic RC maintenance.
- What tools do I need to install this pinion gear? — Installation typically requires basic RC tools including a hex wrench set (for motor fasteners), a small gear puller if you're removing an old gear, and potentially thread-lock compound for security. Exact requirements depend on your specific RC vehicle's motor mounting system. Consult your vehicle's manual or a local RC hobby shop in the UK for installation guidance specific to your model.
