Overview
The Fastrax 48Dp 23T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear FAST48-23 is a premium quality gear component designed for serious RC enthusiasts and competitive racers across the UK. This precision-engineered pinion gear is crafted from high-grade aluminium 7075 alloy, one of the strongest and most durable materials available for RC car components. Whether you're running a brushless RC car, upgrading your transmission system, or fine-tuning your gearing ratio for optimal performance, this pinion gear delivers the reliability and precision that discerning RC racers demand.
Pinion gears are critical drivetrain components that transfer power from your motor directly to the main transmission. The 48-pitch specification (48Dp) combined with the 23-tooth configuration makes this gear suitable for a wide range of RC applications, from off-road buggies to on-road racing vehicles. The use of 7075 aluminium alloy ensures exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, meaning you get durability without adding unnecessary mass to your RC model. This is particularly important when running high-powered brushless motors that generate significant torque and acceleration forces.
If you're building a ready to run RC car, upgrading existing components, or competing in RC racing events throughout the UK, having quality replacement and upgrade gears is essential. The Fastrax brand is recognised for producing reliable option parts and upgrades that enhance performance and longevity. This 48Dp 23T pinion gear represents exactly the kind of quality component that separates well-maintained, fast RC cars from those that suffer premature wear and failure.
Key Features
- 48-Pitch Specification (48Dp) — The 48-pitch rating means this gear has 48 teeth per inch of diameter, making it compatible with standard 48-pitch spur gears commonly found in modern RC cars. This ensures seamless integration with most RC drivetrains without requiring adapter components or extensive modifications.
- 23-Tooth Configuration — With exactly 23 teeth, this pinion gear delivers a specific gear ratio that influences your vehicle's acceleration, top speed, and torque delivery. The 23-tooth size is a popular configuration that balances acceleration and speed across various RC racing disciplines and track types.
- Aluminium 7075 Alloy Construction — This premium aluminium alloy is aerospace-grade and significantly stronger than standard aluminium alternatives. Aluminium 7075 offers superior resistance to stripping, shearing, and deformation under the extreme stresses generated by high-performance brushless motors and aggressive racing conditions.
- Precision Engineering — Fastrax pinion gears are manufactured to exacting tolerances ensuring perfect mesh with your spur gear, reducing backlash and improving power transmission efficiency. This precision results in faster acceleration response, smoother power delivery, and more consistent lap times on the track.
- Lightweight Design — By utilising premium aluminium rather than heavier steel alternatives, this pinion gear minimises rotating mass in your drivetrain. Reduced weight means quicker acceleration and better overall handling characteristics, particularly noticeable when racing competitively.
- Durability for High-Performance Applications — Whether you're running a brushless RC buggy, truck, or touring car, this gear handles the demands of high-torque motors without premature failure. The material selection and manufacturing process ensure your investment in this component will deliver many hours of reliable performance.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax 48Dp 23T Aluminium 7075 Pinion Gear represents a critical upgrade path for RC racers who understand that drivetrain reliability directly impacts competitive performance. Pinion gears are subject to tremendous stress, particularly when paired with modern brushless motors that can deliver instantaneous torque and acceleration. The choice of 7075 aluminium alloy is significant because it provides approximately 50% more strength than standard 6061 aluminium commonly used in budget gear components. This enhanced strength translates directly into improved durability during hard cornering, aggressive acceleration, and the high-rpm operation typical of modern brushless RC cars. The 23-tooth specification works in conjunction with your vehicle's spur gear to establish the overall drivetrain gear ratio, which determines how your motor's power is converted into vehicle acceleration and speed. A 23T pinion with a larger spur gear will favour acceleration and torque, ideal for tight, technical tracks with frequent corners. The precision manufacturing ensures minimal runout and perfect concentricity, which means smooth meshing with your spur gear, reduced vibration, and more efficient power transfer from motor to wheels. For RC car UK enthusiasts running competitive setups, this level of precision is essential for achieving consistent performance lap after lap. The lightweight properties of aluminium combined with the strength of the 7075 alloy make this pinion gear an excellent choice for racers who want to optimise their vehicle's performance envelope without compromising durability.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why do I need to upgrade mine? — A pinion gear is the small gear attached to your motor shaft that meshes with the larger spur gear in your transmission. Over time, pinion gears can wear, strip teeth, or develop damaged edges that reduce efficiency. Upgrading to a quality component like this Fastrax 48Dp 23T pinion gear restores your drivetrain's performance and ensures smooth power delivery. If you're experiencing sluggish acceleration, hearing grinding noises from your transmission, or noticing inconsistent performance, a worn pinion gear is often the culprit.
- Is the Fastrax 48Dp 23T pinion gear compatible with my RC car? — This pinion gear features a 48-pitch specification, which is the industry standard for modern RC cars across most scales and types. However, you must verify that your vehicle uses a 48-pitch drivetrain. Check your RC car's specifications or consult your vehicle's manual. This gear is suitable for various applications including RC buggies, touring cars, trucks, and other models that employ 48-pitch drivetrains. If your RC car uses a different pitch specification (such as 32-pitch, 64-pitch, or proprietary systems), this gear will not be compatible.
- What is the difference between this 48Dp 23T and other tooth configurations? — The number of teeth on your pinion gear directly affects your vehicle's performance characteristics. A lower tooth count (such as 21T or 22T) will increase your vehicle's top speed but reduce acceleration and low-end torque. A higher tooth count (such as 25T or 26T) will improve acceleration and torque but reduce maximum speed. The 23T configuration sits in the middle of this spectrum, making it a versatile choice suitable for mixed conditions. For carpet racing, you might prefer a higher tooth count for better acceleration control, while for high-speed outdoor racing, you might choose lower tooth counts.
- Why is aluminium 7075 better than regular aluminium for pinion gears? — Aluminium 7075 is an aerospace-grade alloy that offers significantly superior strength and hardness compared to standard 6061 aluminium. The advanced composition means 7075 resists stripping, shearing, and deformation far better than budget alternatives. This is crucial in a pinion gear because it endures continuous, intense forces from high-powered brushless motors. The investment in quality material directly translates to a longer-lasting component and better reliability during critical moments in competitive racing.
- Is this suitable for brushless RC cars? — Absolutely. In fact, this pinion gear is specifically designed with brushless motor compatibility in mind. Modern brushless motors generate significantly more torque than brushed alternatives, which means drivetrain components experience greater stress. The premium 7075 aluminium alloy and precision manufacturing of this Fastrax gear make it ideal for handling the demands of brushless powertrains. Whether you're running a 2S, 3S, or higher LiPo-powered brushless system, this pinion gear will deliver the durability and performance you need.
- Can I use this gear for racing or is it only for casual bashing? — This Fastrax pinion gear is suitable for both competitive racing and recreational use. The quality of construction and material selection make it particularly valuable for racers who demand consistency and reliability. Competitive RC racing places extreme demands on drivetrain components, and this 48Dp 23T gear delivers the precision and durability needed for track competition. However, the quality construction also means it's an excellent upgrade for any serious RC enthusiast who wants better performance and longevity than standard components.
