Proper gear selection is fundamental to achieving the performance characteristics you want from your RC vehicle. The 29-tooth configuration provides a specific gear ratio that influences how power is delivered from your motor to the wheels. Whether you're upgrading from worn components, fine-tuning your vehicle's performance, or building a complete drivetrain setup, choosing the correct pinion gear is a decision that impacts your driving experience directly. With Traxxas pinion gears, you're investing in reliability and authenticity for your brushless RC setup.
Key Features
- 29-Tooth Configuration — The 29-tooth count is precisely engineered to work seamlessly with compatible spur gears in Traxxas vehicles and other RC cars using metric pitch standards, ensuring smooth meshing and optimal power delivery to the wheels.
- 1.0 Metric Pitch Design — This metric pitch specification is critical for compatibility with modern RC transmissions, providing the correct tooth spacing and engagement pattern for reliable power transfer without slippage or damage during acceleration and cornering.
- 20-Degree Pressure Angle — The 20-degree pressure angle is an industry-standard specification that ensures efficient load distribution across the gear teeth, reducing wear and extending the lifespan of both this pinion and your spur gear during intensive use.
- 5mm Shaft Bore — The 5mm shaft bore is designed to fit securely onto standard 5mm motor shafts found in most modern Traxxas electric RC vehicles, providing a precise fit that prevents slipping and maintains consistent gear mesh alignment.
- Genuine Traxxas Component — As an authentic Traxxas part manufactured to original specifications, this pinion gear guarantees perfect compatibility with your Traxxas vehicle and delivers the performance standards you expect from the premium RC brand.
- Durable Construction — Built from hardened materials capable of withstanding the stresses of acceleration, braking, and cornering, this pinion gear maintains its integrity through countless running sessions whether you're on a race track or bashing through rough terrain.
- Easy Installation — The straightforward design allows for quick replacement on your motor shaft, making maintenance and gear ratio adjustments simple enough for enthusiasts at any skill level to accomplish in minutes.
- Performance Tuning Tool — Having multiple pinion gears with different tooth counts allows you to fine-tune your vehicle's acceleration and top speed characteristics, making this an essential component for anyone interested in optimising their RC car's performance profile.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas 29-T Pinion Gear represents the precision engineering that goes into modern RC drivetrains. With its 1.0 metric pitch and 20-degree pressure angle, this gear is optimised for smooth, efficient power transmission in contemporary brushless RC vehicles. The 5mm shaft bore ensures a secure fit on standard motor shafts, eliminating any wobble or misalignment that could compromise performance or cause premature wear. The 29-tooth configuration sits in the middle of the typical pinion range, offering a balanced approach to gear ratio tuning that provides neither extreme acceleration sacrifice nor top-speed compromise. When paired with the appropriate spur gear size for your specific vehicle model, this pinion delivers the torque and speed characteristics necessary for competitive racing or recreational bashing. The hardened tooth geometry is engineered to mesh efficiently with compatible spur gears, distributing load evenly across the engagement surface and minimising stress concentrations that lead to tooth breakage. Whether you're running your RC car on a tight indoor track, a sprawling outdoor circuit, or rough off-road terrain, the reliability of this pinion gear ensures consistent performance throughout your driving sessions. The precise manufacturing tolerances that Traxxas maintains ensure that this component integrates seamlessly into your drivetrain, providing the level of quality and dependability that serious RC enthusiasts demand from their spare parts inventory.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why do I need one for my RC car? — The pinion gear is a small toothed wheel that sits on your motor shaft and meshes with a larger spur gear. Together, they form your vehicle's transmission system, converting motor speed into wheel speed. The pinion gear directly affects your RC car's acceleration, top speed, and overall drivability. If your pinion gear becomes worn, stripped, or damaged, replacing it is essential for maintaining proper performance. Having spare pinion gears with different tooth counts also allows you to adjust your vehicle's performance characteristics to suit different tracks or driving styles.
- Is this pinion gear compatible with my Traxxas RC car? — This 29-tooth pinion gear with a 5mm shaft bore is compatible with Traxxas vehicles and other RC cars that use 1.0 metric pitch, 20-degree pressure angle gears with 5mm motor shafts. To confirm compatibility with your specific model, check your vehicle's manual or contact our expert team at RC Model Shop. We can help you identify the correct pinion gear for your particular setup and ensure you have the right component for your needs.
- What is the difference between 29 teeth and other pinion tooth counts? — Pinion gear tooth count directly influences your vehicle's gear ratio and performance characteristics. A lower tooth count, such as 27, provides faster top speed but requires more motor power for acceleration. A higher tooth count, such as 31, delivers stronger acceleration but slightly reduces maximum speed. The 29-tooth configuration offers a balanced middle ground, making it suitable for a wide variety of driving conditions and a good starting point for tuning your vehicle's performance.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gear lifespan depends on driving intensity, maintenance, and gear mesh conditions. Regular inspection is important, especially after intense racing or bashing sessions. If you notice tooth wear, damage, or if your vehicle exhibits poor acceleration or slipping sensations during driving, it's time to replace your pinion gear. Keeping spare pinion gears on hand ensures you're never sidelined when your current one needs replacement.
- Do I need any tools to install this pinion gear? — Installation typically requires a small hex key or Allen wrench to remove the set screw or grub screw holding your old pinion gear, then sliding the new gear onto the motor shaft and securing it. Most RC enthusiasts find this a straightforward task that takes only a few minutes. If you're unfamiliar with the process, the experts at RC Model Shop are happy to provide guidance or assistance.
- Can I use this gear for racing or is it just for casual bashing? — This genuine Traxxas pinion gear is suitable for both competitive racing and recreational bashing. The durable construction and precise engineering mean it can handle the demands of high-speed racing circuits or rough off-road terrain. Many UK RC racing enthusiasts rely on Traxxas components like this pinion gear for their competition setups.
