Overview
The Traxxas Power Tap Connector with Voltage Sensor (TRX6549) is an essential accessory for RC enthusiasts looking to expand the capabilities of their electric RC car, truck, or buggy. This inline connector bridges the gap between your battery and ESC (electronic speed controller), creating a convenient power distribution point that unlocks the potential of optional telemetry systems and LED power supplies. Whether you're running a 1/10 scale RC vehicle in the UK or managing a competitive RC setup, this connector provides the clean, organised power management that serious hobbyists demand.
Designed with precision engineering typical of Traxxas components, the Power Tap Connector allows you to monitor your battery voltage in real-time through a dedicated telemetry voltage sensor connection, giving you critical performance data during races, bashing sessions, or weekend track days. This is particularly valuable for anyone investing in advanced RC telemetry systems or running multiple power-hungry accessories simultaneously. The connector integrates seamlessly into your existing RC setup without requiring modifications to your vehicle's wiring harness.
For those building or upgrading their RC car collection in the UK, this power tap represents genuine quality from Traxxas, the world's leading manufacturer of ready-to-run and race-kit RC vehicles. It's the kind of component that separates well-organised, professional setups from basic installations, and it's trusted by competitors, weekend bashers, and hobbyists alike.
Key Features
- Inline Battery-to-ESC Connection — The connector plugs directly between your battery and electronic speed controller, providing a centralised power distribution point that keeps your RC car's electrical system clean and organised. This design eliminates the need for complex wiring modifications and allows for straightforward power management.
- Integrated Voltage Sensor Support — The dedicated voltage sensor connector allows you to connect optional telemetry systems for real-time battery voltage monitoring. This feature is essential for serious RC competitors and enthusiasts who want to track battery performance during races or long bashing sessions, helping you optimise runtime and prevent over-discharge.
- LED Power Supply Integration — The connector provides convenient access to power for optional LED lighting systems, allowing you to add visual upgrades and night-running capabilities to your RC vehicle without complicated wiring. Whether you're running LED headlights, underglow lighting, or cabin lights, this connector simplifies the installation process.
- Included Mounting Hardware — Two 2.6x8mm BCS (body clip style) screws are included, providing secure attachment points for the connector and any accessories you're installing. These metric fasteners are standard across Traxxas components, ensuring compatibility with other parts in your RC collection.
- Professional-Grade Construction — Built to Traxxas standards, this connector features robust contacts and reliable mating surfaces designed to handle repeated connections and disconnections without degradation. The design ensures consistent electrical contact and minimal voltage drop across the connector interface.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas Power Tap Connector represents straightforward electrical engineering focused on reliability and functionality. Rather than adding active components, this connector operates as a passive distribution point, meaning there are no integrated electronics to fail or complicate your RC car's electrical system. The connector features precision-machined contacts that maintain low resistance, critical for minimising voltage drop during high-current draw situations common in brushless RC vehicles. The 2.6x8mm screw fasteners included with the connector are industry-standard Traxxas components, compatible with body clips and mounting posts found on virtually all modern Traxxas vehicles. The design accommodates various battery types and capacities, from small 2S LiPo packs through to larger 3S and 4S configurations, making it genuinely versatile across different scales and vehicle types. The voltage sensor connection operates independently from the main power path, allowing real-time monitoring without affecting power delivery to your ESC or motor. This dual-circuit approach ensures that telemetry monitoring and LED lighting draw minimal current from your primary power system, preserving runtime and performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How does the Power Tap Connector work with my RC car's battery and ESC? — The connector plugs inline between your battery and ESC, creating a central power distribution junction. Your main power cable runs from the battery to the power tap, then from the power tap to your ESC. This arrangement gives you a convenient access point for connecting optional telemetry voltage sensors and LED power supplies without modifying your existing wiring harness. It's particularly useful if you're upgrading an older RC vehicle with new telemetry capabilities.
- What batteries are compatible with the Traxxas Power Tap Connector? — This connector is designed to work with standard RC LiPo batteries commonly used in 1/10 scale RC cars, including 2S, 3S, and 4S configurations. It functions with virtually any battery pack that connects to a standard Traxxas ESC, making it compatible with most electric RC vehicles in the UK market. Check your vehicle's manual for specific battery recommendations.
- Can I use the Power Tap Connector with telemetry systems other than Traxxas branded products? — Yes, the voltage sensor connection is a standard interface designed to work with most modern RC telemetry systems that feature battery voltage monitoring. If you're considering a specific telemetry brand, check the connector specifications to ensure compatibility with standard voltage sensor plugs.
- Do I need any additional wiring modifications to install the Power Tap Connector in my RC car? — No modifications are necessary. The connector is designed to replace the direct battery-to-ESC connection in your existing setup. If your vehicle currently runs a simple battery-to-ESC cable, you can simply disconnect that cable and plug it through the power tap instead. The two included 2.6x8mm screws allow you to mount the connector securely to your chassis.
- What is the difference between this Power Tap and just connecting my battery directly to the ESC? — A direct battery-to-ESC connection offers no power distribution for accessories. The Power Tap Connector provides a dedicated connection point for voltage sensors and LED power supplies, allowing you to add these features without complex additional wiring. It also provides better organisation of your RC car's electrical system, particularly valuable if you're running multiple accessories.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — The Power Tap Connector is most valuable for RC enthusiasts who are expanding their setups with telemetry systems or LED accessories. Beginners running basic ready-to-run vehicles without these extras won't need this connector initially, but those considering telemetry upgrades in the future should consider installing it during their initial setup for convenience.
