Overview
The Traxxas Oil, Differential (1M wt) (standard) TRX5042 is an essential maintenance product for RC enthusiasts and serious hobbyists who demand peak performance from their Traxxas RC cars, trucks and buggies. Whether you're a weekend basher enjoying your RC model in the UK countryside or a competitive racer pushing your vehicle to its limits on the track, proper differential lubrication is absolutely critical to maintaining smooth operation, reducing friction and extending the lifespan of your drivetrain components. This genuine Traxxas differential oil has been specifically formulated to meet the exact requirements of Traxxas vehicles, ensuring optimal performance and protection.
Differential oils play a crucial role in the operation of any RC car or RC buggy. They reduce friction between the gears and components inside the differential, allowing for smooth power distribution to the wheels whilst preventing premature wear and damage. Without proper lubrication, differentials can overheat, wear rapidly and ultimately fail, leaving your RC hobby investment compromised. The 1M weight designation indicates this is a standard viscosity oil suitable for normal driving conditions and most Traxxas models, making it the go-to choice for maintaining your RC vehicle in peak condition.
RC Model Shop is proud to stock genuine Traxxas oils and lubricants for customers across the UK who understand the importance of proper maintenance. This differential oil is an affordable, essential item that every Traxxas owner should have in their toolkit, whether they're maintaining a ready-to-run RC monster truck, an RC buggy, or any other Traxxas vehicle. Regular maintenance with quality products like this ensures your RC car performs reliably and lasts for years of enjoyment.
Key Features
- Genuine Traxxas Product — This is official Traxxas differential oil engineered to exact specifications for Traxxas vehicles, ensuring compatibility and performance that aftermarket alternatives simply cannot match, giving you confidence that you're using the right product for your RC model.
- 1M Standard Weight Viscosity — The 1M weight is the standard viscosity specification for typical driving conditions, providing the perfect balance between protection and smooth differential operation across a wide range of temperatures and driving styles.
- Gear Oil Formulation — Specifically formulated as a gear oil, this product is designed to handle the high-pressure, high-stress environment inside a differential where gears mesh and rotate at high speed, offering superior protection compared to general-purpose lubricants.
- Extended Component Life — Regular use of this differential oil significantly reduces wear on internal differential gears and bearings, dramatically extending the service life of this critical drivetrain component and saving you money on replacement parts.
- Smooth Power Delivery — Proper differential lubrication ensures smooth, consistent power distribution to both wheels, improving handling characteristics and overall performance whether you're driving your RC car casually or competing seriously.
- Reduced Friction and Heat — The advanced formulation minimises friction within the differential, which reduces operating temperature and prevents overheating during extended driving sessions, particularly important for high-performance RC racing applications.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas Oil, Differential (1M wt) is a professional-grade gear oil classified as 1M weight, which places it in the standard viscosity range for most Traxxas RC vehicles operating under normal conditions. Gear oils are engineered to perform under extreme pressure and shear forces, making them fundamentally different from general-purpose motor oils. The 1M weight designation means this oil maintains appropriate viscosity across typical ambient and operating temperatures, ensuring it flows freely during cold starts whilst maintaining a protective film at elevated operating temperatures. This balance is critical in RC differentials where metal-to-metal contact between gears must be minimised. The formulation includes additives that improve film strength, resist oxidation and protect against wear, ensuring that internal components like spider gears, side gears and differential bearings remain protected even during aggressive driving. For RC enthusiasts in the UK maintaining Traxxas models, this differential oil represents the manufacturer-approved solution for drivetrain lubrication, with proven performance across countless RC cars, trucks and buggies from casual weekend bashers to competitive racing teams.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What weight differential oil should I use for my Traxxas RC car? — The 1M weight is the standard specification for most Traxxas vehicles operating under normal conditions. Always consult your specific model's manual for exact lubrication requirements, as some high-performance or competition models may require different viscosity ratings.
- How often should I change my differential oil? — Differential oil should be inspected regularly, particularly after heavy use or dusty conditions. Many RC enthusiasts change their differential oil every 5-10 hours of driving or whenever it becomes contaminated with dust or debris. Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and component longevity.
- Is this differential oil compatible with all Traxxas models? — This 1M weight oil is compatible with the vast majority of Traxxas RC vehicles that use standard differentials. However, always check your specific model's manual or the Traxxas website to confirm the correct weight and type of differential oil required for your particular RC car or truck.
- Why is differential oil important for my RC car? — Differential oil is essential because it lubricates the complex system of gears inside your differential that distribute engine power to both wheels. Without proper lubrication, these gears overheat, wear rapidly and can seize or break entirely, resulting in expensive drivetrain failure and ending your RC driving session.
- Can I use regular motor oil in my RC differential? — No, regular motor oil is not suitable for RC differentials. Gear oils like this product are formulated specifically for the extreme pressures and shear forces found in differentials, offering superior protection and performance compared to general-purpose oils.
