Overview
Traxxas Premium Shock Oil 50 wt (600 cSt) is an essential maintenance product for serious RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand precision suspension tuning and consistent performance from their RC vehicles. Whether you're running a high-performance RC buggy, monster truck, or short course truck, the quality of your shock oil directly impacts how your suspension responds to terrain, jumps, and cornering forces. This 100% pure silicone shock oil from Traxxas is specifically engineered to deliver the exact viscosity specification needed for reliable, repeatable suspension behaviour, ensuring your RC car UK setup remains predictable whether you're racing competitively or enjoying weekend bashing sessions.
The 50 weight formulation (600 cSt viscosity) represents the perfect middle ground for many RC enthusiasts, offering balanced damping characteristics suitable for a wide range of driving styles and track conditions. Traxxas offers seven precise viscosities across their complete shock oil range, from lightweight 20 weight (200 cSt) through to heavy 80 weight (1000 cSt), giving you complete control over your vehicle's suspension tuning. By selecting the correct weight for your specific vehicle and driving conditions, you can fine-tune suspension response to achieve better traction, smoother jumps, and improved cornering stability. This level of precision is what separates casual RC car owners from serious hobbyists who understand that suspension setup is as critical as motor choice or battery selection.
What makes Traxxas shock oil stand out in the ready to run RC market is not just the consistency of the product, but the thoughtful design of the bottle itself. The precision-pour, twist-nozzle cap eliminates the mess and frustration of filling shock bodies, making maintenance quick, easy, and clean. The generous 2 fl.oz (60ml) bottle size is perfectly calculated to fill all four shocks on most RC models without waste, whether you're servicing a brushless RC truck or preparing your vehicle for competition. For anyone serious about RC performance, quality shock oil is a non-negotiable consumable that deserves the same attention and care as selecting premium batteries or genuine Traxxas components.
Key Features
- 100% Pure Silicone Oil — This premium formulation ensures maximum consistency between bottles and batches, meaning your suspension behaviour remains predictable and repeatable whether you're maintaining your vehicle weekly or using oil purchased months apart, which is crucial for competitive RC racing where consistency is everything.
- Precise 50 Weight (600 cSt) Viscosity — The cSt viscosity specification provides exact damping characteristics that remain stable across temperature ranges and driving conditions, allowing you to achieve the precise suspension tuning your RC vehicle needs for optimal performance on your local track or bashing grounds.
- Part of a Seven-Step Viscosity Range — Traxxas provides shock oils from 20 weight (200 cSt) through 80 weight (1000 cSt), offering unmatched flexibility in suspension tuning, whether you need lighter damping for softer tracks or heavier damping for rough terrain and high-speed driving.
- Precision-Pour Twist-Nozzle Cap — The specially designed cap features a precision-pour spout that eliminates spillage and mess, making it faster and cleaner to fill shock bodies accurately without wasting product or contaminating your workshop, hands, or RC vehicle components.
- Generous 2 fl.oz (60ml) Bottle Size — The bottle is sized to fill all four shocks on most RC models with minimal waste, making it cost-effective and eliminating the frustration of running out of oil mid-service or having leftover product that degrades over time.
- cSt Viscosity Specification — Rather than relying solely on weight ratings, Traxxas specifies the precise kinematic viscosity (cSt) of each shock oil, ensuring that you get exactly the same damping performance regardless of manufacturing batch or storage conditions, which is essential for consistent RC performance.
Technical Performance
Traxxas shock oil is formulated using premium silicone that maintains consistent viscosity across a wide temperature range, which is essential for RC vehicles that might be driven in cool mornings or warm afternoons. The 50 weight formulation at 600 cSt provides ideal medium damping for most driving styles and track conditions, making it an excellent choice for RC car enthusiasts in the UK whether you're competing in organised races or enjoying casual bashing at local parks and grounds. The precision engineering of the twist-nozzle cap is not purely cosmetic—it reflects Traxxas's deep understanding of what RC hobbyists actually need, which is faster maintenance without the frustration of spilled oil damaging workshop surfaces or contaminating other components. Unlike budget shock oils that may separate or change viscosity over time, Traxxas's 100% silicone formulation remains stable, ensuring that when you fill your shocks today, they'll perform exactly as they did yesterday and will continue to do so for the next service interval. The cSt measurement (centistokes) is the industry standard for measuring fluid viscosity at precise temperatures, and Traxxas's commitment to specifying cSt rather than just weight ratings demonstrates their commitment to consistency and performance that discerning RC enthusiasts expect from a premium brand.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What weight shock oil do I need for my RC vehicle? — The correct weight depends on your vehicle type, track conditions, and driving style. The 50 weight (600 cSt) formulation offered here is a versatile middle option suitable for most RC cars, trucks, and buggies. Lighter weights (20-30 wt) are better for soft tracks or smooth surfaces, while heavier weights (60-80 wt) suit rough terrain, high-speed driving, and rock crawling. Consult your vehicle's manual or contact experienced RC retailers for specific recommendations for your model.
- How much shock oil do I need? — A single 2 fl.oz (60ml) bottle is sufficient to fill all four shocks on most RC models, making this size ideal for routine maintenance without excessive waste or the need to purchase multiple bottles for a single service.
- Why is 100% silicone oil better than blended oils? — Pure silicone oil provides superior consistency and stability compared to blended formulations that may separate or change viscosity over time. This consistency is crucial for RC performance where predictable suspension behaviour is essential for both competitive racing and reliable weekend bashing.
- Will this shock oil work with my RC vehicle? — Traxxas shock oil is compatible with any RC vehicle that uses shock absorbers, including Traxxas models and those from other manufacturers such as ARRMA, Losi, and FTX. The 50 weight formulation is particularly suited to mid-sized vehicles and versatile across most driving conditions, making it an excellent general-purpose choice.
- How often should I change my shock oil? — Shock oil should be serviced regularly depending on how frequently you drive and the conditions you use your RC vehicle in. After 10-15 hours of driving or if you notice diminished suspension performance, it's time to service your shocks by draining and replacing the oil with fresh Traxxas shock oil.
- Can I mix different brands of shock oil? — It's best practice to use the same brand and formulation throughout your shocks for consistency. Mixing brands or weights may result in unpredictable suspension behaviour, so when servicing, drain old oil completely and refill with fresh Traxxas oil of the same weight.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. While suspension tuning is an advanced topic, using quality shock oil is a simple maintenance task that any RC owner can perform. Beginners should start with the 50 weight as a versatile option and learn about tuning once they're comfortable with basic maintenance.
