Overview
The Tamiya PS-63 Bright Gun Metal Polycarbonate Spray Paint is a premium paint solution specially designed for RC car enthusiasts in the UK who want to achieve professional-quality finishes on their polycarbonate RC bodies. This 100ml spray can delivers a bright, metallic gun metal colour that gives transparent polycarbonate RC car bodies an authentic, factory-finished appearance. Whether you're customising a high-speed RC buggy, a nimble RC touring car, or any other RC model with a polycarbonate body, this specialist paint has been engineered specifically for this application by Tamiya, one of the world's most trusted RC and model manufacturers.
For RC hobbyists across the UK looking to transform their RC vehicles with a professional metallic finish, this product is an essential tool. The paint is impervious to oil and fuels, making it completely safe to use on glow engine RC car bodies, which means you can confidently paint fuel-powered nitro RC vehicles without worrying about the paint degrading or reacting with fuel. This durability and compatibility with fuel-powered RC engines sets it apart from standard hobby paints and makes it the go-to choice for serious RC racers and bashers alike.
Each can contains exactly 100ml of paint, which is the perfect amount for finishing a single RC model body from the inside. By painting from the inside of the transparent polycarbonate, you get a clean, professional finish that looks factory-perfect while protecting the paint from damage during use. This makes the Tamiya PS-63 an economical choice—you won't waste paint, and you'll achieve salon-quality results on your RC car.
Key Features
- Specialist Polycarbonate Formula — This paint has been specifically developed for use on transparent polycarbonate bodies used in RC car modelling, meaning it bonds perfectly to polycarbonate without cracking, peeling, or becoming brittle as the body flexes during high-speed driving and bashing.
- Bright Gun Metal Colour — The metallic gun metal shade provides a stunning, professional appearance that enhances the visual appeal of any RC body, giving your RC car a realistic, detailed finish that stands out on the track or at the bashfield.
- Fuel and Oil Resistant — The paint formulation is completely impervious to oil and fuels, which means it can be safely applied to glow engine RC car bodies without fear of degradation, fuel leaks causing paint damage, or chemical reactions that could compromise the finish on your nitro-powered RC vehicle.
- Perfect Coverage Size — Each can contains exactly 100ml, which is the precise amount needed to finish one RC model body, eliminating waste and ensuring you have just enough paint for a complete, even coverage without running short mid-project.
- Interior Painting Method — The paint is designed to be applied from inside the transparent polycarbonate body, which protects the finished paint from track debris, fuel splash, and physical damage during RC driving, resulting in a finish that stays pristine for longer.
- Multi-Coat Ready — The paint cures quickly enough to allow you to apply multiple coats as necessary, building up colour depth and ensuring complete, even coverage across your entire RC body with no thin spots or streaks.
- Trusted Tamiya Quality — Tamiya is a world-renowned manufacturer with over 60 years of expertise in RC and model products, so you're investing in paint formulated by engineers who understand the demands of RC car modelling and racing.
Technical Performance
The Tamiya PS-63 is engineered with precision spray paint technology developed specifically for the unique demands of RC car bodies. When applied correctly from inside a transparent polycarbonate body at approximately 30cm distance, the paint creates an even, glossy metallic finish with excellent colour saturation and brightness. The bright gun metal shade is formulated to provide maximum visual impact while maintaining the transparency of the polycarbonate, allowing light to pass through in areas where the paint doesn't cover, creating depth and dimension. The paint's formulation includes additives that prevent it from becoming brittle or cracking when the polycarbonate body flexes during high-speed RC driving, sharp cornering, and impact absorption. Being impervious to oil and fuels means the chemical composition resists degradation from nitro fuel exposure, making it ideal for glow engine RC cars where fuel vapour and splash are inevitable. The 100ml volume is precisely calculated to provide complete coverage for a standard RC car body with proper application technique—applying the paint from inside the body and allowing full curing time between coats. After the initial coat cures, a second coat can be applied to deepen the colour and ensure complete opacity, with additional coats possible as desired for maximum vibrancy and professional appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I use this paint on plastic model kits? — No, this paint is exclusively formulated for polycarbonate and must never be used on plastic model kits or plastic bodies, as it will not bond properly to plastic and may damage the model. Always ensure you are painting a polycarbonate RC body only.
- Is this suitable for both nitro and electric RC cars? — Yes, this paint is suitable for both fuel-powered nitro RC cars and electric RC vehicles with polycarbonate bodies. The paint's resistance to oil and fuels makes it especially valuable for glow engine RC car bodies, where fuel exposure is constant.
- How much of the body will 100ml cover? — The 100ml can contains the appropriate amount for finishing a complete single RC model body with proper application technique. This assumes you're painting from inside the transparent polycarbonate and applying coats as needed for even coverage.
- What is the correct application method? — Paint the body from the inside, keeping the spray can approximately 30cm from the polycarbonate surface. Allow the paint to cure fully, then apply a second coat. Small details should be brush painted beforehand using Tamiya bottle paints for polycarbonate to ensure clean, precise coverage.
- How long does the paint take to cure? — Full curing time allows you to apply a second coat, though exact cure times depend on ambient temperature and humidity. After initial application, allow adequate time for the first coat to set before applying the second coat for best results.
- Will this paint crack or peel as the body flexes? — No, this paint is specifically formulated for polycarbonate and maintains flexibility as the body flexes during high-speed RC driving and impact, preventing cracking, peeling, or becoming brittle over time.
- Is this the same as spray paint for plastic models? — No, this is a specialist formulation for polycarbonate only and is different from spray paints designed for plastic model kits. Using the correct paint for your RC body material is essential for durability and finish quality.
