Overview

The Tamiya Lexan Spray Paint in Fluorescent Green (PS-28) is a specialist polycarbonate paint designed specifically for RC car UK enthusiasts who want professional-quality finishes on their transparent polycarbonate body shells. Whether you're building a ready-to-run RC car, competing in racing events, or simply customising your radio controlled vehicle, this premium spray paint delivers vibrant colour and exceptional durability that standard acrylic paints cannot match. Tamiya's reputation for excellence in the RC modelling world is reflected in every can of this meticulously formulated paint.

These spray paints were developed especially for decorating transparent polycarbonate bodies used in R/C car modelling, making them the gold standard choice for serious hobbyists and professional racers alike. Each 100ml can contains the precise amount of paint needed to finish one complete model body, ensuring you have exactly what you need without wastage. The fluorescent green colour provides stunning visual impact on the track or at the bash spot, ensuring your RC model stands out from the crowd with brilliant, eye-catching appeal.

What sets this product apart from generic spray paints is its formulation specifically for polycarbonate materials. Unlike standard hobby paints that may crack, peel, or fail on flexible plastic bodies, Tamiya's polycarbonate spray paint adheres perfectly to these surfaces and maintains its integrity through countless bash sessions, races, and outdoor adventures. For anyone serious about their RC hobby in the UK, this is the paint choice that delivers results.

Key Features

  • Specialist Polycarbonate Formula — This paint has been specifically engineered for polycarbonate bodies rather than being a generic spray paint, which ensures perfect adhesion, flexibility and durability on the unique material used in modern RC car shells.
  • 100ml Capacity Per Can — Each aerosol contains precisely 100ml of paint, which is the exact amount needed to complete one full RC car body, eliminating guesswork and ensuring you have sufficient paint for your project.
  • Fluorescent Green Colour — The PS-28 Fluorescent Green delivers vibrant, high-visibility colour that makes your RC model highly visible on the track or in outdoor settings, providing both aesthetic appeal and practical visibility benefits.
  • Interior Application Method — The paint is applied from inside the polycarbonate body shell rather than from the outside, protecting the finish from damage during use and creating a professional factory-quality appearance.
  • Fuel and Oil Resistant — These paints are impervious to oil and fuels, making them perfectly safe for use on gas-powered RC bodies, which is essential if you're running nitro or petrol-powered models.
  • Multi-Coat Capability — After the initial coat has cured, you can apply additional coats to build up colour intensity and depth, allowing you to achieve the exact shade and coverage you desire.
  • Proper Spray Distance Optimised — The paint is formulated to work best when sprayed from approximately 30cm distance from the surface, ensuring even coverage and professional results when applied correctly.
  • Industry Standard Quality — Tamiya is a recognised world leader in RC model supplies, and this paint reflects their commitment to quality, consistency and meeting the demanding requirements of serious RC enthusiasts across the UK and globally.

Technical Performance

The Tamiya Lexan Spray Paint PS-28 Fluorescent Green represents a significant step forward in RC body finishing technology. Unlike generic automotive or craft spray paints, this formulation has been specifically developed with the unique properties of polycarbonate plastic in mind. Polycarbonate is a flexible, impact-resistant plastic that requires a paint system capable of flexing without cracking or peeling. Standard rigid paints simply cannot perform this function, which is why specialist RC paints like this are essential for achieving lasting results on brushless RC cars, electric RC models, and particularly on nitro-powered RC vehicles. The paint's resistance to oils and fuels makes it ideal for nitro and petrol-powered R/C cars, where fuel splash and fuel vapours can degrade lesser quality finishes. The 100ml volume is scientifically calculated based on typical body surface areas for standard 1/10-scale and 1/8-scale RC car bodies, providing efficient coverage without over-purchasing. When applied correctly from inside the body shell at the recommended 30cm distance, this paint delivers a glossy, durable finish that can withstand impacts, UV exposure, and the general wear and tear of regular RC use. The ability to apply multiple coats allows customisation of colour depth and coverage, giving you professional-level control over your model's final appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I use this paint on plastic scale models or non-polycarbonate bodies? — No, you must never use these paints on plastic scale models or standard plastic bodies. These paints are specifically formulated for transparent polycarbonate RC car bodies only. Using this paint on incorrect materials will result in damage to your model, as the paint is not compatible with non-polycarbonate plastics.
  • Why is this paint so much more expensive than regular spray paint from a DIY store? — Tamiya Lexan paints are specialist formulations developed specifically for polycarbonate materials. Standard spray paints will crack, peel, and fail on flexible polycarbonate bodies. The premium price reflects years of R&D, quality testing, and the fact that this paint is formulated specifically for RC polycarbonate bodies, ensuring perfect adhesion, flexibility and durability that generic paints cannot provide.
  • How do I apply this paint correctly to achieve professional results? — Always spray from the inside of the polycarbonate body shell rather than the outside. Hold the can approximately 30cm from the surface and apply even, smooth strokes. Allow the paint to cure fully before applying additional coats if desired. Never spray from closer than 30cm, as this can cause runs and uneven coverage.
  • Is this paint suitable for both electric and nitro RC cars? — Yes, this paint is safe for both electric RC cars and nitro-powered RC vehicles. The formulation is specifically resistant to oils and fuels, making it ideal for gas-powered R/C bodies where fuel splash can be a concern. It will not degrade when exposed to fuel vapours or oil residue, which is a critical requirement for nitro models.
  • How many RC bodies can I paint with one 100ml can? — One can contains exactly 100ml, which is the appropriate amount for finishing one complete model RC body. This assumes proper application technique from the inside of the body at 30cm distance. If you're painting multiple bodies or require thick colour coverage, you may need more than one can.
  • What makes fluorescent green different from standard green paint colours? — Fluorescent green is a high-visibility colour formulation that appears brighter and more vibrant than standard green, making your RC model highly visible on the track or in outdoor bash sessions. The fluorescent property means the colour appears to glow under daylight conditions, providing both aesthetic appeal and practical visibility benefits.
  • Can I apply this over existing paint, or must I strip the body first? — For best results, you should prepare the polycarbonate body properly before painting. While the paint is formulated for polycarbonate, ensuring a clean surface free from oils, dust, and loose material will result in superior adhesion and finish quality.
