Overview
The ARRMA Pinion Gear, 15T HD Mod1 Safe-D5 is an essential replacement part for ARRMA RC vehicles across their range of brushless RC trucks and buggies. Whether you're running a high-performance 1/5 scale speed truck, a 1/7 scale desert basher, or a 1/8 scale competition buggy, this pinion gear represents the quality engineering and durability that ARRMA owners have come to expect. If you're looking for a reliable pinion gear to keep your brushless RC car UK-ready and performing at its best, this tough steel component is the ideal choice for your tool box.
This 15-tooth pinion gear is precision manufactured to exacting standards and features the innovative Safe-D profile, which provides a safety feature that separates it from standard pinion gears. The Safe-D design includes a D-shaped bore that matches your motor shaft profile, meaning that even if the set-screw backs out during extreme bashing or competition driving, you won't lose drive or braking to your ready to run RC vehicle. This is a critical consideration for anyone running an RC car UK-wide, whether on track, in the park, or tackling challenging terrain.
ARRMA's commitment to durability and reliability shines through in every detail of this part. The 15T configuration offers a balance between acceleration and top speed for many ARRMA platforms, making it suitable for both street bashing and serious competition. Stock this part in your RC tool box as a backup, or swap it in when you want to fine-tune your vehicle's performance characteristics across different driving conditions.
Key Features
- Strong and Durable Steel Construction — The pinion gear is manufactured from high-quality steel that withstands the extreme forces generated during high-speed runs, aggressive acceleration, and hard cornering. Steel gears maintain precision and resist wear far better than plastic alternatives, ensuring consistent performance and longer service life even in the most demanding RC racing conditions.
- Precision Manufactured Wide Tooth Profile — The wide tooth profile is engineered for smooth, efficient power transfer from your motor to the spur gear and drivetrain. This precision manufacturing reduces noise, minimises vibration, and ensures that power delivery remains consistent and predictable whether you're accelerating hard or controlling speed through technical sections.
- Safe-D Design with D-Shaped Bore — The distinctive D-shaped bore matches the motor shaft profile of compatible ARRMA vehicles, providing a critical safety feature. If the mounting set-screw ever backs out during intense driving sessions, the D-shaped profile ensures the gear remains engaged with the motor shaft. This means you'll maintain drive and braking capability even if fastener retention is temporarily compromised, preventing the loss of control during critical moments.
- 5mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — The pinion gear is specifically designed to suit 5mm motor shaft diameters, which are standard across many ARRMA brushless platforms including the KRATON, OUTCAST, TALION, TYPHON, and MOJAVE series. This ensures perfect fitment and optimal power transmission when installed correctly.
- Precision Threaded Set-Screw Hole — The mounting hole features precision threading to accept the supplied M4 x 4mm set-screw, which can be tightened securely to lock the gear onto the motor shaft. The precision threading ensures the set-screw can be tightened consistently without risk of stripping, providing reliable fastening session after session.
- E-Clip Retention System Included — A 3.2mm E-clip is supplied with the gear to provide additional motor shaft retention. This clip prevents axial movement of the gear along the motor shaft, ensuring it stays in perfect alignment with the spur gear at all times. The E-clip serves as a backup retention method for maximum reliability.
- Complete Fastening Kit Supplied — Everything needed to install this pinion gear is included in the box, with both the M4 x 4mm set-screw and 3.2mm E-clip provided as standard. You won't need to source additional fasteners, meaning you can get your vehicle back on the track or trail without delay.
Technical Performance
The ARRMA 15T Mod1 Safe-D5 Pinion Gear represents a perfect balance of durability, precision engineering, and practical reliability for serious RC enthusiasts. Manufactured from hardened steel with a precision-engineered Mod1 tooth pitch, this 15-tooth configuration integrates seamlessly with ARRMA's spur gear range to deliver optimised performance across multiple vehicle platforms. The Mod1 specification refers to the gear pitch standard, ensuring compatibility with matched ARRMA transmission components across 1/5, 1/7, and 1/8 scale vehicles. The wide tooth profile design minimises stress concentration at the tooth root, distributing loads more evenly during acceleration and deceleration phases. This engineering approach extends gear life significantly compared to standard pinion designs, particularly when running higher-powered brushless motors or aggressive driving styles. The Safe-D bore represents ARRMA's safety-focused design philosophy — the D-shaped profile ensures positive engagement with the motor shaft, preventing accidental disengagement that could leave you stranded on the track or trail. For UK-based RC car enthusiasts running brushless motors in demanding applications, this pinion gear delivers the durability and reliability required for both casual weekend bashing and serious competition driving. Installation is straightforward with the supplied M4 x 4mm set-screw for primary fastening and the 3.2mm E-clip for additional security.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the 15T pinion gear tooth count suitable for? — The 15-tooth configuration provides a balanced setup for multiple ARRMA platforms. This tooth count suits vehicles where you want a good compromise between acceleration response and top-end speed. Many ARRMA users choose 15T for general-purpose driving, weekend bashing, and competitive racing where extreme speed isn't the primary goal.
- What does the Safe-D design actually do? — The Safe-D profile features a D-shaped bore that matches your motor shaft profile. If the set-screw backing out occurs during driving (which can happen with vibration), the D-shaped engagement ensures your gear stays connected to the motor shaft. This maintains both forward drive and braking function even if fastener retention is temporarily lost, providing a significant safety advantage over traditional round-bore pinion gears.
- Which ARRMA models is this pinion gear compatible with? — This 15T Mod1 Safe-D5 pinion gear is listed as standard parts for numerous ARRMA vehicles including the 1/5 KRATON 8S, 1/5 OUTCAST 8S, 1/7 BIG ROCK 6S, 1/7 FELONY 6S, 1/7 INFRACTION 6S, 1/7 LIMITLESS 6S, 1/7 MOJAVE 6S, 1/8 KRATON 6S, 1/8 NOTORIOUS 6S, 1/8 OUTCAST 6S, 1/8 TALION 6S, and 1/8 TYPHON 6S across various trims and revisions. Cross-reference your specific model to confirm fitment.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Yes, this is a suitable replacement part for RC enthusiasts of all experience levels. Pinion gear replacement is a relatively straightforward maintenance task that even newer RC users can accomplish with basic tools. The included fasteners make installation simple, and the Safe-D design provides extra reliability for learning drivers who may not have perfected technique yet.
- What motor shaft size does this fit? — This pinion gear is engineered specifically for 5mm motor shaft diameters, which is the standard shaft size across ARRMA's brushless motor lineup. Always verify your motor shaft diameter before ordering to ensure proper fitment.
- Do I need anything else to install this gear? — All essential fastening components are included in the box — the M4 x 4mm set-screw and 3.2mm E-clip. You'll only need basic tools such as an appropriately sized hex wrench or key to tighten the set-screw during installation. No additional parts are required.
- Why would I need to replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gear replacement becomes necessary due to normal wear, tooth stripping (usually caused by improper mesh or extreme load), or when upgrading to a different tooth count to adjust your vehicle's performance characteristics. Carrying spare pinions in your RC tool box is recommended for serious drivers running at events or in remote locations.
- What's the difference between 15T and other tooth counts? — Lower tooth counts (like 13T or 14T) provide quicker acceleration but lower top speed. Higher tooth counts (like 17T or 18T) offer higher top speed but reduced acceleration. The 15T represents a middle ground suitable for versatile driving scenarios, making it popular for general-purpose use across ARRMA's range.
