Overview

The Tamiya PS-43 Translucent Orange Polycarbonate Spray Paint is a specialist finishing product designed exclusively for decorating transparent polycarbonate bodies used in RC car modelling across the UK and beyond. If you're building an RC model with a polycarbonate shell, this authentic Tamiya spray paint delivers the professional results you need to transform your RC car into a stunning finished model. These spray paints were developed specifically for the unique demands of polycarbonate bodywork, making them the ideal choice for RC enthusiasts who want factory-quality finishes on their projects.

Whether you're a seasoned RC competitor preparing a show-quality build, a weekend basher customising your favourite RC car, or a hobbyist discovering the world of RC model painting for the first time, this translucent orange paint offers exceptional colour depth and durability. The translucent finish creates a beautiful frosted glass effect on polycarbonate bodies, giving your RC car a distinctive appearance that stands out from solid-colour finishes. Each 100ml can contains the perfect amount of paint to finish one complete polycarbonate body, making it economical and convenient for RC builders.

What sets this product apart from generic spray paints is its formulation for polycarbonate specifically. Standard plastic model paints simply won't work on polycarbonate bodies, but Tamiya's PS-43 is engineered to bond properly with polycarbonate whilst remaining safe for use even on gas-powered RC cars. For any RC enthusiast in the UK working with polycarbonate body shells, this is the authorised paint solution you can trust.

Key Features

  • Specifically formulated for polycarbonate bodies — This paint is engineered exclusively for transparent polycarbonate shells used in RC car modelling, ensuring perfect adhesion and colour matching that generic spray paints cannot achieve. Using this dedicated formula guarantees professional results and prevents damage to your polycarbonate bodywork.
  • Translucent orange finish — The translucent formulation creates a beautiful frosted glass effect rather than a solid opaque colour, giving your RC car a distinctive and eye-catching appearance. This finish can be combined with Bright Silver to achieve deep mica colour effects for even more dramatic results.
  • 100ml capacity per can — Each aerosol contains exactly 100ml of paint, which is the appropriate amount for finishing one complete polycarbonate body shell without waste or shortage. This sizing makes it economical and ensures you have precisely the right amount for your project.
  • Applied from the inside of the body — Unlike traditional plastic model painting, polycarbonate bodies are painted from the inside of the shell, protecting the finish and creating a professional look. This painting method is unique to polycarbonate bodywork and requires paint specifically formulated for this application technique.
  • Fuel and oil resistant — These paints are impervious to oil and fuels, making them safe for use on gas-powered RC bodies as well as electric models. This fuel resistance ensures your finish remains intact and undamaged even with regular exposure to nitro fuel or maintenance oils.
  • Tamiya quality and authenticity — As an officially authorised Tamiya product, this paint meets the brand's exacting standards for RC hobby products. Tamiya's reputation for quality in the RC car modelling community is well-established, and this paint upholds those standards.
  • Multiple coats application method — The paint is designed to be applied in layers, with curing time between coats, allowing you to build up colour depth and achieve professional translucent effects gradually. This flexible application approach gives you control over the final finish intensity.

Technical Performance

The Tamiya PS-43 represents specialist engineering for a specific application within RC car modelling. The paint's formulation is engineered for polycarbonate substrates, which have fundamentally different properties from ABS plastic used in traditional model kits. Polycarbonate bodies are transparent or translucent and require paint that bonds chemically to the material without clouding or damaging the plastic. The spray can design incorporates an aerosol propellant system that delivers consistent, fine atomisation when held approximately 30cm from the polycarbonate surface. The translucent orange pigmentation is carefully selected to create a frosted glass aesthetic whilst maintaining light transmission through the body shell, essential for interior LED lighting effects often used in RC car modelling. The paint dries to a finish that is completely resistant to the harsh chemical environment inside an RC car, including exposure to nitro fuel vapours, two-stroke engine oil, and maintenance lubricants. This chemical resistance is particularly important for gas-powered RC cars where traditional finishes would degrade. The 100ml volume is engineered as a complete dose for one polycarbonate body, accounting for spray loss and normal application wastage. Multiple coats build up the translucent effect progressively, allowing builders to control the final colour intensity and achieve custom colour blending effects by combining different translucent shades.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I use this paint on plastic model kit bodies? — No, absolutely not. This paint is formulated exclusively for polycarbonate bodies and will damage plastic model kits. The manufacturer specifically warns never to use these paints on plastic models, as the chemical formulation is incompatible with ABS and other plastics used in static model kits. Always use the correct paint for your substrate.
  • What is the difference between translucent and solid paint finishes? — Translucent colours create a frosted glass effect that allows light to pass through the polycarbonate body whilst adding colour, whereas solid paints block light completely. The translucent finish is particularly effective on RC cars with internal LED lighting, as it allows the light to show through with colour tinting. You can also combine translucent orange with Bright Silver to achieve deep mica colour effects for even more dramatic customisation.
  • How do I apply this paint correctly? — Paint the polycarbonate body from the inside, keeping the spray can approximately 30cm away from the surface. After allowing the paint to cure, apply another coat as necessary to build up the colour intensity. The inside-to-outside application method is unique to polycarbonate bodies and protects the finish whilst creating a professional appearance.
  • Is this paint safe for gas-powered RC cars? — Yes, these paints are completely impervious to oil and fuels, making them safe for use on nitro-powered RC bodies. This fuel resistance ensures your paint finish will not degrade from exposure to two-stroke engine oil, nitro fuel, or maintenance lubricants commonly used in gas-powered RC cars.
  • How much paint do I get, and is it enough? — Each can contains 100ml of paint, which is the appropriate amount for finishing one complete polycarbonate body shell. This volume accounts for normal spray loss and application wastage, so you should have sufficient paint for complete coverage with multiple coats if needed.
  • Can I combine different translucent colours? — Yes, you can create custom colour effects by combining translucent shades. For example, you can use translucent orange in combination with Bright Silver to achieve deep mica colour effects. This allows for creative customisation and unique finishes on your RC car bodywork.
  • What is the finish type of PS-43 Translucent Orange? — This paint delivers a candy paint finish, which creates a rich, jewel-like appearance with depth and lustre. The candy finish combined with the translucent formulation creates the characteristic frosted glass effect that makes polycarbonate bodies so visually striking.
