Overview
The Tamiya Lexan Spray Paint PS-41 Bright Silver TAM86041 is a specialist polycarbonate spray paint designed exclusively for decorating transparent RC car bodies used in radio-controlled model racing and bashing. This premium paint formula has been carefully developed by Tamiya, one of the world's most respected RC manufacturers, to deliver professional-quality finishes on polycarbonate body shells. Whether you're building a championship-winning Formula E RC car, customising a touring car body, or creating a unique finish on your favourite RC model, this bright silver paint provides excellent coverage and durability that will make your RC vehicle stand out on the track or at the bash spot. Each 100ml can contains the perfect amount of paint to completely finish one full-size RC car body, making it the ideal choice for hobbyists and serious competitors alike across the UK and beyond.
What sets this Tamiya paint apart from standard model paints is its specialist formulation for polycarbonate bodies, which requires a different approach than painting traditional plastic models. This paint is impervious to oil and fuels, making it perfectly safe for use on petrol-powered RC cars as well as electric models. The bright silver colour option provides a stunning metallic finish that catches the light beautifully, giving your RC car a professional factory appearance. Whether you're a weekend basher looking to personalise your RC model or a serious competitor preparing for the next race season, this paint delivers the quality and reliability you'd expect from Tamiya's decades of experience in the RC hobby.
Key Features
- Specialist Polycarbonate Formula — This paint has been developed specifically for use on transparent polycarbonate RC car bodies, not standard plastic models, ensuring perfect adhesion and a professional finish that won't crack or peel during use.
- Fuel and Oil Resistant — The paint's formulation is completely impervious to oils and fuels, making it safe to use on both electric RC cars and nitro or petrol-powered RC vehicles without fear of paint degradation.
- 100ml Can Size — Each spray can contains exactly 100ml of paint, which is the precise amount needed to finish one complete RC car body shell, minimizing waste and providing excellent value for money.
- Interior Spray Application — Unlike traditional models, Tamiya polycarbonate body paint is applied from the inside of the body shell rather than the outside, a technique that protects the paint and allows for even coverage and vibrant colours.
- Bright Silver Metallic Finish — This particular colour variant offers a stunning bright silver hue with subtle metallic properties that catches the light, giving your RC car a premium factory-finished appearance.
- Multi-Coat Capability — The paint can be applied in multiple coats after curing to build up colour depth and intensity, allowing you to achieve exactly the finish you want for your RC model.
- Trusted Tamiya Quality — Manufactured by Tamiya, one of the world's most respected names in RC car modelling, you can rely on consistent quality and reliable performance every time you use this paint.
Technical Performance
This Tamiya Lexan spray paint has been engineered specifically for the demands of RC car body painting, where durability and colour vibrancy are essential. The bright silver colour is a popular choice for RC enthusiasts in the UK and worldwide, offering a classic metallic appearance that works beautifully on modern Formula E bodies, touring cars, and other high-performance RC models. The paint's formulation ensures that it bonds properly with polycarbonate without causing crazing or stress fractures, a common problem when using inappropriate products on Lexan bodies. With a recommended spray distance of approximately 30 centimetres from the surface, the paint atomises evenly and settles smoothly on the polycarbonate shell. The fuel and oil resistance of this paint makes it particularly valuable for builders working on nitro-powered RC cars, where traditional paints would deteriorate rapidly when exposed to engine emissions and fuel residue. After application, the paint cures to a tough, protective finish that resists scratching and maintains its bright silver lustre through multiple race days or bashing sessions. The 100ml volume is precisely calculated based on Tamiya's extensive testing of typical RC car body sizes, ensuring you have enough paint for complete coverage with room for a second coat if desired.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I use this paint on standard plastic RC models? — No, this paint is specifically formulated for polycarbonate bodies only. Never use these paints on standard plastic models as the formula is incompatible and may damage the plastic or produce poor results. Tamiya manufactures separate paint ranges for different materials.
- Why must I spray from the inside of the RC body shell? — Polycarbonate bodies are transparent, and painting from the inside protects the paint finish from wear, scratches, and UV damage while allowing the colour to show through the clear plastic. This technique also prevents paint chips from compromising the structural integrity of the body.
- Is this paint suitable for nitro-powered RC cars? — Yes, absolutely. This paint is specifically formulated to be impervious to oils and fuels, making it ideal for use on polycarbonate bodies for nitro-powered RC vehicles where traditional paints would degrade rapidly.
- How far should I hold the spray can from the RC body? — Keep the can approximately 30 centimetres from the polycarbonate surface when spraying. This distance allows the paint to atomise properly and settle evenly without creating runs or drips.
- Can I apply multiple coats of this paint? — Yes, after the first coat has cured, you can apply additional coats to build up colour intensity and depth. Simply allow adequate curing time between coats before applying the next layer.
- Will 100ml of paint be enough for my RC car body? — Yes, the 100ml can contains the ideal amount of paint to finish one complete RC car body shell. Tamiya has calculated this volume based on extensive testing of typical RC car body sizes.
- What is the difference between PS and TS Tamiya paints? — PS paints like this are specifically formulated for polycarbonate (Lexan) bodies, while TS paints are designed for ABS plastic components. Using the correct paint type for your material ensures best results and prevents damage to your RC model.
- Is this paint water-resistant once cured? — The polycarbonate paint provides a durable protective finish once cured. However, for any RC car being used in wet conditions, you should ensure proper body sealing and waterproofing of electronics separately from the paint application.
