Overview
The Tamiya Lexan Spray Paint PS-40 Translucent Pink is a specialist polycarbonate body paint designed specifically for RC car enthusiasts in the UK who want to achieve professional results on their transparent body shells. Whether you're building a high-performance RC buggy, touring car, or any other RC model with a polycarbonate body, this translucent pink spray paint delivers a stunning frosted glass effect that catches the light beautifully. Unlike traditional plastic model paints, Tamiya's polycarbonate spray paint range has been engineered with the unique requirements of RC cars in mind, allowing you to paint from the inside of the body shell whilst maintaining structural integrity and achieving vibrant, long-lasting colour.
This product is essential for anyone serious about customising their RC car UK collection. The translucent finish creates depth and visual interest that solid colours simply cannot match, making your RC model stand out on the track or at the bash spot. Each can contains exactly 100ml of paint — the perfect amount for finishing one complete RC car body from start to finish. RC enthusiasts across the United Kingdom rely on Tamiya's paint range because of its proven performance, ease of application, and compatibility with both electric and nitro-powered RC vehicles.
What makes this spray paint particularly special is its resistance to oils and fuels, meaning you can safely use it on gas-powered RC bodies without worrying about deterioration or colour fade over time. The translucent pink formulation works brilliantly when combined with Bright Silver to create a deep, shimmering mica colour effect that really enhances the appearance of your RC car body. Whether you're preparing your first ready-to-run RC car or working on a competition-grade build, this Tamiya spray paint delivers professional results that justify its investment.

- Specialist Polycarbonate Formula — This spray paint is specifically developed for transparent polycarbonate RC car bodies rather than traditional plastic, ensuring perfect adhesion, colour accuracy and durability on the materials used in modern RC vehicles.
- Translucent Pink Finish — The translucent formulation creates a beautiful frosted glass appearance on polycarbonate bodies, allowing light to pass through and creating stunning visual depth that solid colours cannot achieve on RC car shells.
- Perfect Can Size — Each 100ml can contains precisely the right amount of paint needed to finish one complete RC car body, eliminating waste and making it easy to plan your project budget.
- Oil and Fuel Resistant — These paints are completely impervious to oil and petroleum-based fuels, making them safe for use on gas-powered RC bodies where traditional paints might deteriorate or fade.

- Layerable for Custom Effects — You can apply multiple coats to achieve deeper colour saturation or combine translucent colours with Bright Silver to create sophisticated mica effects that make your RC car truly unique.
- Easy to Apply — The spray application is straightforward when you maintain the recommended 30cm distance from the polycarbonate surface, making this accessible to RC enthusiasts of all experience levels.

Technical Performance
The Tamiya PS-40 Translucent Pink spray paint represents decades of research into RC car-specific paint chemistry. Tamiya recognised that RC enthusiasts face unique painting challenges compared to traditional model builders — polycarbonate bodies flex during high-speed driving, encounter impacts from crashes, and are exposed to fuel vapours on gas-powered RC vehicles. This paint has been engineered to address all these real-world demands. The translucent formulation allows light to refract through the polycarbonate, creating the signature frosted glass effect that gives RC car bodies visual depth and sophistication. The 100ml can size is scientifically calibrated to provide complete coverage for a standard RC car body with appropriate layering — typically requiring 30cm spray distance and multiple thin coats for optimal results. Because the paint is applied from inside the body shell during RC assembly, it remains protected from the abrasive track environment, fuel exposure, and mechanical stress that would damage exterior paintwork. The fuel and oil resistance means gas-powered RC car owners need not worry about degradation from fuel sloshing or oil residue, unlike with conventional spray paints. The curing process is straightforward: apply your first coat, allow proper drying time, then apply additional coats as necessary to achieve your desired colour intensity and effect.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I use this Tamiya polycarbonate paint on plastic RC car bodies? — No, absolutely not. This paint is formulated exclusively for transparent polycarbonate shells. Using it on traditional plastic will result in adhesion failure and unsatisfactory results. Tamiya produces separate acrylic and lacquer paint ranges specifically for plastic models.
- What is the difference between translucent and solid colour Tamiya spray paints for RC cars? — Translucent colours create a frosted glass effect that allows light to pass through the polycarbonate, creating visual depth and shimmer. Solid colours provide complete opaque coverage. Translucent paints are ideal when you want an elegant, refined appearance, whilst solids are better for bold, flat finishes. Many serious RC enthusiasts prefer translucent options because they enhance the polycarbonate body's three-dimensional appearance.
- How do I create a mica effect with the translucent pink paint? — Apply the translucent pink in combination with Tamiya PS-1 Bright Silver. First spray your base layer of silver inside the body, then layer the translucent pink over it. This creates a deep, shimmering mica colour effect that is far more sophisticated than single-colour painting.
- Is this paint suitable for beginners painting RC car bodies? — Yes, absolutely. The spray application is straightforward when you follow Tamiya's guidance of maintaining approximately 30cm distance from the polycarbonate surface. Apply thin, even coats rather than one thick coat, and allow each layer to cure before applying the next. Beginners find success with polycarbonate painting because it's more forgiving than some paint types — mistakes are easily corrected by applying additional coats.
- How many RC car bodies can one 100ml can paint? — One 100ml spray can is designed to paint exactly one complete standard RC car body from start to finish, including appropriate layering for colour depth. This makes budgeting and project planning straightforward.
- Will this paint work on nitro-powered RC cars? — Yes, this is one of the key advantages of Tamiya polycarbonate spray paint. The formulation is completely impervious to oil and fuel, so you can safely use it on gas-powered RC bodies where traditional paints might degrade over time from fuel exposure.
- What is the recommended spraying distance for application? — Keep the spray can approximately 30cm from the polycarbonate body surface when painting. This distance ensures even coverage and proper paint atomisation without runs or orange-peel texture.
- How long does each coat take to cure? — Allow adequate curing time between coats for the best results. Tamiya's polycarbonate paints cure relatively quickly, typically allowing you to apply a second coat within a reasonable timeframe. However, follow any specific timing guidance on the can for optimal results.
