Overview

The Traxxas Oil, shock (80 wt, 1,000 cSt, 60cc) (Silicone) TRX5037 is an essential accessory for any serious RC enthusiast in the UK looking to fine-tune their vehicle's suspension performance. Whether you're running an RC car, truck, or buggy, this premium silicone shock oil represents the gold standard in suspension tuning fluids. Traxxas has engineered this specialist product to deliver consistent, reliable performance across all driving conditions, from smooth tarmac tracks to rough off-road terrain.

This 100% pure silicone shock oil is specifically formulated to allow precise vehicle suspension tuning for maximum performance, no matter where you drive your RC model. The 80-weight formulation with 1,000 cSt viscosity sits at the thicker end of Traxxas's seven-step range, making it ideal for faster driving speeds, high-grip surfaces, or when you need more damping resistance in your shocks. If you're a competitive racer, weekend basher, or dedicated hobbyist who demands the best from your RC setup, this shock oil delivers the consistency and quality you need to achieve optimal suspension behaviour.

Available in a convenient 60ml (2 fl.oz) bottle, this product comes with Traxxas's signature precision-pour, twist-nozzle cap design that makes filling shock bodies quick, easy, and mess-free. This is the kind of product that separates casual RC car owners from serious enthusiasts who understand that suspension tuning is crucial to vehicle handling and performance.

Key Features

  • 100% Pure Silicone Oil — Made from pure silicone with no additives or contaminants, this formulation ensures maximum consistency between bottles and predictable performance every time you refill your shocks, which is critical when you're trying to dial in the perfect suspension setup for your RC car UK driving conditions.
  • 80 Weight (1,000 cSt) Viscosity — This is the heaviest viscosity in the Traxxas range, providing maximum damping resistance and making it ideal for high-speed driving, tight handling, and situations where you need firmer shock response for better control and stability.
  • Precision-Pour Twist-Nozzle Cap — The specially designed nozzle allows you to fill shock bodies with pinpoint accuracy without spillage or mess, saving you time during maintenance and setup adjustments, and preventing valuable oil from being wasted on your workbench.
  • 60ml Bottle Size — One bottle contains 2 fl.oz (59ml) of oil, which is enough to fill all four shocks on most RC models, meaning you won't run out halfway through a setup session and you'll have consistent oil from the same batch across all four corners of your vehicle.
  • Consistent cSt Viscosity Specification — Every bottle of Traxxas shock oil is manufactured to strict viscosity standards measured in centistokes (cSt), ensuring that you get identical performance characteristics from bottle to bottle, which is essential for reliable suspension tuning and reproducible results.
  • Seven Precise Viscosity Options Available — Traxxas offers this shock oil in seven different weights ranging from 200cSt (20wt) to 1,000cSt (80wt), allowing you to select the exact damping characteristics you need for your specific vehicle, driving style, and track conditions, whether you're looking for something lighter or heavier than this 80wt option.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas Oil TRX5037 represents the pinnacle of shock oil engineering for the RC hobby market. This 80-weight silicone formulation delivers 1,000 cSt of viscosity, measured according to industry-standard centistoke (cSt) testing protocols. The 100% silicone construction means there are no mineral oils, additives, or fillers that could cause inconsistent performance or degradation over time. This purity is crucial because shock oil directly affects the damping curve of your suspension — thicker oils slow down the piston movement inside the shock body, creating more resistance and a firmer ride, whilst thinner oils allow faster piston movement and softer suspension response. The 80wt viscosity (1,000 cSt) places this at the highest damping level in the standard Traxxas range, making it suitable for high-speed applications, tight-handling setups, and conditions where you need maximum shock stiffness. The 60ml bottle capacity is engineered to fill all four shocks on most standard RC vehicles with oil from a single, consistent batch, eliminating the possibility of mixing oils from different production runs. The precision-pour nozzle design represents Traxxas's commitment to quality engineering throughout the entire product ecosystem — even something as seemingly simple as an oil bottle gets professional-grade attention to detail, with the twist-nozzle mechanism specifically designed to prevent drips, spills, and waste during the critical process of shock tuning.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is shock oil used for in RC cars? — Shock oil is the hydraulic fluid inside your RC vehicle's shock absorbers that controls how quickly the suspension compresses and extends. By choosing different viscosities (thicknesses) of oil, you can tune your suspension to be softer or stiffer, which directly affects vehicle handling, stability, and comfort. Thicker oils like this 80wt formulation create stiffer, firmer suspension response, whilst thinner oils provide softer, more compliant suspension characteristics.
  • Why should I choose 80wt (1,000 cSt) shock oil? — The 80-weight formulation is the thickest option in the Traxxas range, making it ideal if you're driving at high speeds, racing on tight tracks, prefer a firmer suspension feel, or need maximum damping resistance. If you find your shocks are too soft and your vehicle is wallowing or bouncing excessively, upgrading to 80wt oil will increase stiffness and provide better control and stability during aggressive driving.
  • Is Traxxas 80wt shock oil suitable for beginners? — Whilst this shock oil is suitable for any skill level, beginners might want to start with a lighter viscosity like 50wt or 60wt to get a softer, more forgiving suspension setup. The 80wt option is better suited to experienced RC drivers who understand suspension tuning and want maximum firmness for high-speed driving or competitive racing, though it's equally valid for any skill level if that's the setup you prefer.
  • How much shock oil do I need? — One 60ml bottle contains enough oil to fill all four shocks on most standard RC vehicles like buggies, monster trucks, and truggy models. If you have a larger vehicle like a 1/5-scale truck or a vehicle with extra-large shock bodies, you may need more than one bottle.
  • What is the difference between 80wt and other Traxxas shock oil weights? — Traxxas offers seven viscosity options from 20wt (200cSt) to 80wt (1,000cSt). Lower numbers like 20wt or 30wt are much thinner and create softer, more compliant suspension, whilst higher numbers like 70wt or 80wt are thicker and create stiffer, firmer suspension response. Choose 80wt if you want maximum damping, or step down to 70wt, 60wt, or 50wt if you prefer a softer setup.
  • Can I use this oil in any RC vehicle? — This shock oil is designed for any RC vehicle with hydraulic shock absorbers, including RC buggies, monster trucks, truggies, stadium trucks, short-course trucks, and other models that use standard Traxxas-compatible shocks. Always check your vehicle's manual to confirm shock compatibility and oil capacity before filling.
  • Why is 100% silicone oil better than mineral oil? — Silicone oil provides superior consistency, better temperature stability, and more predictable damping characteristics compared to mineral oils. The 100% purity of Traxxas shock oil means you get identical performance from bottle to bottle, which is essential for reliable suspension tuning and competitive racing.
  • How often should I change shock oil? — Change your shock oil whenever you notice inconsistent damping, after heavy use in dusty conditions, or every 10-15 hours of driving. Regular maintenance ensures your suspension continues to perform optimally and prevents dirt contamination.
