Overview

The Traxxas Oil, shock (60 wt, 700 cSt, 60cc) (Silicone) TRX5035 is a premium suspension fluid engineered for RC enthusiasts who demand precise control over their vehicle's handling characteristics. Whether you're a competitive racer fine-tuning a championship-winning RC buggy, a weekend basher pushing your RC truck to its limits, or someone new to RC car UK hobby exploring suspension setup, this specialist shock oil is an essential consumable that will elevate your vehicle's performance. Traxxas has introduced a complete line of premium silicone shock oil that represents a significant advancement in RC suspension tuning technology, and this 60-weight variant sits perfectly in the middle of their seven-step viscosity range.

This product represents genuine innovation in the RC accessories market. Unlike generic shock oils, Traxxas Premium Shock Oil is formulated from 100% pure silicone, which ensures maximum consistency from bottle to bottle and allows you to achieve repeatable, predictable suspension tuning results. The large 2 fluid ounce (60ml) bottle size contains enough fluid to completely fill all four shock bodies on most standard RC models, making it excellent value for money. Whether you're running a brushless RC short course truck, a competitive off-road buggy, or any other suspension-equipped RC vehicle, having the correct shock oil viscosity is absolutely critical to achieving optimal performance, maximum grip, and responsive handling characteristics that match your driving style and terrain.

The precision-pour, twist-nozzle cap is a feature that transforms the shock oil filling experience from a messy, frustrating task into a quick and clean operation. Anyone who has attempted to fill shock bodies with inferior oil bottles knows how easily spills occur, wasting product and creating mess on your valuable RC equipment. This thoughtful design means you can confidently fill your shocks without worry, and the 700cSt viscosity specification ensures consistent performance with every single bottle you purchase, eliminating variables that could affect your tuning consistency when competing or testing different setups.

Key Features

  • 100% Pure Silicone Oil Formulation — Unlike mineral-based alternatives, pure silicone oil provides maximum consistency and stability, ensuring that every bottle performs identically so your suspension tuning remains predictable and repeatable across multiple fills and driving sessions.
  • Precise 60wt Viscosity Rating — This medium weight sits in the middle of Traxxas's seven-step range (20wt to 80wt), making it an excellent all-round choice for most RC vehicles and driving conditions, offering a balance between responsiveness and damping control for both on-road and off-road use.
  • 700cSt Technical Specification — The centistoke measurement guarantees exact viscosity performance, allowing you to compare directly with competing products and understand precisely how this oil will behave in your shocks compared to lighter or heavier alternatives.
  • Precision-Pour Twist-Nozzle Cap — This innovative design feature eliminates spillage and mess when filling shock bodies, saving you product waste, protecting your RC car from oil contamination, and making the entire suspension maintenance process faster and more enjoyable.
  • Large 2 Fluid Ounce Capacity — The generous 60ml bottle size contains sufficient oil to fill all four shock absorbers on the vast majority of RC models, including 1/10 scale vehicles, standard 1/8 scale buggies, and most ready to run RC cars currently available in the UK market.
  • Available in Seven Viscosity Weights — Traxxas offers this same premium formulation in seven precise steps ranging from 20wt (200cSt) through to 80wt (1000cSt), allowing complete flexibility to fine-tune your suspension for any track condition, weather, or driving preference.
  • Consistent Performance Across Bottles — The cSt viscosity specification ensures that every bottle you purchase performs identically, which is essential for maintaining consistent setup notes and tuning data when testing different configurations on your RC vehicle.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas 60wt Premium Shock Oil represents a significant engineering achievement in suspension fluid design. Formulated from 100% pure silicone rather than mineral oils, this fluid delivers superior consistency, thermal stability, and performance predictability that directly translates to better vehicle control. The 700cSt viscosity rating places this oil squarely in the medium-weight category, making it suitable for a wide variety of driving conditions and RC vehicle types. This viscosity ensures optimal damping characteristics without being so thick that shock responsiveness is compromised, and not so thin that shock bodies feel unpredictably soft. The precision-pour, twist-nozzle cap is engineered with engineering excellence, featuring a controlled flow design that prevents the common problem of oil glugging out uncontrollably when filling shock bodies. The 60ml bottle size has been specifically calculated to provide enough fluid to completely fill all four shock absorbers on standard RC models, which represents genuine practical thinking about real-world RC ownership. Whether you're setting up a brushless RC truck for high-speed bashing or tuning a competitive off-road RC buggy for track racing, this oil provides the performance foundation necessary to achieve your setup goals. The cSt specification ensures batch-to-batch consistency that many budget shock oils cannot match, meaning your suspension tuning will remain stable and predictable whether you're purchasing your first bottle or your tenth, and whether you're buying today or six months from now.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is shock oil and why do I need it for my RC car? — Shock oil is the hydraulic fluid that fills your vehicle's shock absorbers and controls how quickly the suspension compresses and extends. The viscosity (thickness) of this oil directly determines your suspension's damping characteristics. Lighter oils (lower numbers) allow faster suspension movement and work well on bumpy tracks or for soft, responsive handling. Heavier oils (higher numbers) restrict suspension movement and provide firmer control, ideal for smooth tracks or high-speed driving. Having the correct shock oil viscosity is essential for achieving optimal grip, handling balance, and consistent performance on your RC vehicle.
  • Is the 60wt suitable for my RC vehicle? — The 60wt (700cSt) is a medium-weight oil that works well for most standard RC vehicles and driving conditions. However, the ideal viscosity depends on your specific vehicle, driving style, and track conditions. Lighter oils (20wt through 40wt) suit bumpy terrain, loose surfaces, or drivers who prefer responsive, twitchy handling. Heavier oils (70wt and 80wt) work better on smooth, grippy surfaces or for drivers wanting more stable, controlled handling. If you're new to shock tuning, 60wt is an excellent starting point, and you can always purchase lighter or heavier alternatives from the Traxxas range to fine-tune your setup.
  • How much shock oil do I need to fill my RC shocks? — Most standard RC vehicles use approximately 15ml of shock oil per shock body, meaning a four-shock setup requires roughly 60ml total. The Traxxas 60ml bottle is specifically designed to contain exactly enough oil for this common application, making it perfect for one complete shock oil change or initial setup. Larger vehicles or those with extra-large shock bodies may require slightly more, whilst smaller scale models might use slightly less.
  • What makes Traxxas shock oil different from cheaper alternatives? — Traxxas Premium Shock Oil is formulated from 100% pure silicone, whereas many budget alternatives use mineral oils or lower-grade silicone blends. Pure silicone offers superior consistency, meaning every bottle performs identically regardless of temperature or age. The cSt viscosity specification is tightly controlled, ensuring exact performance standards. The precision-pour nozzle cap prevents spillage and mess, protecting both your oil and your vehicle. The larger bottle size provides excellent value. When you're investing in an RC vehicle, using premium shock oil from the original manufacturer ensures your suspension setup performs exactly as intended.
  • Can I use this oil in any RC shock absorber? — Yes, this silicone shock oil is compatible with any standard RC shock absorber that accepts liquid damping fluid, regardless of brand. However, always check your specific vehicle's manual or shock instructions to confirm the correct viscosity range. Traxxas shock absorbers and most modern RC vehicles accept silicone shock oil, making this product universally compatible with the vast majority of RC cars, trucks, and buggies currently available in the UK market.
  • How do I choose between 60wt and other viscosity weights? — Traxxas offers seven weights from 20wt (very light) through 80wt (very heavy), each designed for specific conditions. Start with 60wt as a baseline. If your vehicle feels too stiff or doesn't respond quickly to inputs, try a lighter oil like 40wt or 50wt. If your vehicle feels too soft and wallowy, switch to a heavier oil like 70wt or 80wt. Your driving style also matters: aggressive, responsive drivers often prefer lighter oils, whilst smooth, controlled drivers prefer heavier oils. Experimenting within the Traxxas range helps you discover your perfect setup.
  • Is this a one-time purchase or do I need to replace it regularly? — Shock oil degrades over time due to exposure to temperature extremes, UV light, and normal use, so periodic replacement is recommended. Many serious RC racers refresh their shock oil every few months or before major competitions. Casual bashers might replace it annually or as needed. The large 60ml bottle provides excellent value, making regular refreshes affordable and practical.
  • Will this work with brushless RC vehicles? — Yes, absolutely. Shock oil is independent of your vehicle's motor type. Whether you're running a brushless RC truck, a brushed motor RC buggy, or any other RC vehicle, the shock oil performs identically. The motor type does not affect suspension performance or shock oil requirements.
