Overview

The Axial Servo Plate 56x17mm (AX30777) is an essential component for enthusiasts looking to upgrade their RC crawler with advanced four-wheel steering capability. This servo plate forms a critical part of the AR60 OCP steering system, enabling you to transform your Wraith or other Axial scale crawler into a highly manoeuvrable four-wheel steer machine. Whether you are an experienced RC car UK hobbyist or someone looking to take your off-road crawler to the next level of technical terrain capability, this servo plate unlocks a whole new dimension of driving control and precision on challenging obstacle courses.

Four-wheel steering on an RC crawler is extremely rewarding, particularly when navigating tight, technical terrain where traditional two-wheel steering simply cannot match the manoeuvrability and control offered by steering all four wheels independently. The AX30777 servo plate is engineered to securely mount your steering servo to the rear axle, allowing you to add responsive rear steering to your vehicle. This component has been specifically designed as part of Axial's comprehensive four-wheel steering conversion system, meaning it integrates perfectly with other AR60 OCP components to create a seamless, professional-grade upgrade.

This is a genuine Axial part that represents the quality and precision engineering you would expect from one of the world's leading RC crawler manufacturers. By choosing this servo plate, you are investing in a component that has been tested and proven in real-world four-wheel steering conversions, ensuring reliability and performance every time you take your RC crawler out for a challenging day on the trails.

Key Features

  • AR60 OCP Steering System Component — This servo plate is specifically engineered as part of Axial's AR60 OCP steering linkage system, ensuring perfect compatibility with all other components in the four-wheel steering conversion kit and allowing you to build a complete, integrated rear steering solution.
  • Precise Servo Mounting Design — The plate features carefully designed servo tabs and mounting points that securely attach your steering servo whilst maintaining the correct geometry for smooth, responsive steering input, using M3 self-tapping buttonhead and flathead screws for reliable fastening.
  • Compact 56x17mm Footprint — The compact dimensions of this servo plate allow it to fit neatly into the rear cargo area of your crawler without interfering with the chassis or suspension during full compression, making it ideal for tight-fitting builds where space is at a premium.
  • Direct Axle Mounting — The plate mounts directly to the rear axle housing, providing a solid, vibration-free platform for your servo that transmits steering commands reliably even when navigating binds and technical obstacles.
  • Optimised for Rear Steer Conversions — This component is optimised specifically for rear axle steering applications, working seamlessly with Futaba S9157 servos and other high-torque steering servos to deliver the responsive control needed for advanced four-wheel steering setups.

Technical Performance

The Axial Servo Plate 56x17mm represents precision engineering designed to support professional-grade four-wheel steering modifications on scale crawlers. The plate is manufactured to exacting tolerances to ensure that your steering servo mounts securely and maintains perfect alignment with the steering linkage and kingpins. Built from durable materials capable of withstanding the stresses and vibrations inherent in technical rock crawling and obstacle navigation, this servo plate provides a solid foundation for rear axle steering systems. The mounting design accommodates M3 self-tapping screws (both buttonhead and flathead variants) at multiple attachment points, distributing loads evenly and preventing fastener loosening during aggressive driving. When properly installed as part of a complete AR60 OCP four-wheel steering conversion, the servo plate enables the servo to sit perfectly within the rear cargo area at full suspension compression, meaning your vehicle's suspension can articulate fully without any interference or binding. The compact 56x17mm dimensions make this plate suitable for various Axial platforms whilst maintaining a low-profile installation that does not compromise chassis rigidity or ground clearance. The engineering of this component takes into account the torque requirements of modern steering servos, particularly high-performance units like the Futaba S9157, allowing you to install servos with sufficient power to manage challenging steering binds without overloading your electronic speed controller.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the Axial Servo Plate AX30777 used for? — The AX30777 is used to mount your steering servo to the rear axle of your Axial crawler as part of a four-wheel steering conversion. It secures your servo (such as a Futaba S9157) and provides the mounting interface for connecting your steering linkage, enabling independent rear axle steering for enhanced manoeuvrability on technical terrain.
  • Is this servo plate suitable for beginners? — Whilst the servo plate itself is straightforward to install, a four-wheel steering conversion is an intermediate to advanced modification project. You will need some mechanical knowledge, appropriate tools, and familiarity with your crawler's chassis and suspension. The complete conversion requires installing multiple components and making modifications to your vehicle, so this is recommended for experienced RC hobbyists rather than complete beginners.
  • Which Axial models is this compatible with? — The AX30777 is specifically designed for the Axial Wraith and other AR60 OCP steering system platforms. Compatibility depends on your vehicle having space for rear axle steering modifications and a suitable chassis design. You should verify compatibility with your specific model before purchasing.
  • What servo should I use with this plate? — The servo plate is designed to accommodate high-torque steering servos. The example conversion detailed by Axial uses Futaba S9157 servos for both front and rear steering. Your chosen servo must fit the mounting tabs and have sufficient torque to manage steering loads without overloading your ESC during technical driving or hard binds.
  • Do I need a special radio to use four-wheel steering? — Yes, you will need at least a three-channel radio with independent control capability to operate front and rear steering separately. A dual-stick proportional radio (like the Futaba 4PK) is ideal, allowing you to adjust steering throw independently for each axle and fine-tune your vehicle's handling characteristics. A two-channel setup is possible using a Y-harness to link both servos, but this provides simultaneous four-wheel steering without independent control.
  • What modifications to my Wraith will I need to make besides installing this servo plate? — A complete four-wheel steering conversion involves several modifications: removing and replacing the rear lower chassis brace with an aluminium link for clearance and rigidity, replacing the straight rear axles with CVD shafts, installing new aluminium knuckles and C-hubs, and fitting new steering plates and linkage. You may also need to add spacers to adjust caster angle and ensure the servo sits properly without chassis interference at full compression.
  • Will adding rear steering overload my ESC? — Dual steering servos (front and rear) drawing power simultaneously during tight binds or aggressive steering may overload some ESC units. Depending on your servo torque ratings and ESC capacity, you may need to install a dedicated Castle BEC (Battery Elimination Circuit) to provide clean power to your servos independently from your motor power supply, preventing voltage sag and brownouts.
  • What are the dimensions of this servo plate? — The Axial Servo Plate AX30777 measures 56x17mm, providing a compact footprint suitable for rear axle mounting in tight spaces whilst still offering adequate servo mounting surface area and structural rigidity.
