Overview

The Quality Bearing Set AXE540 from Hobbywing is an essential replacement and upgrade component designed specifically for the XeRun AXE 540-series brushless motor system. This precision bearing set is engineered to maintain the exceptional performance standards that make the AXE system one of the most advanced rock crawler powertrains available in the UK RC car market. Whether you are rebuilding a worn motor, upgrading an existing setup, or maintaining your 1/10th scale rock crawler, this bearing set ensures your brushless RC crawler continues to deliver the smooth, responsive power delivery that trail enthusiasts demand.

These bearings are manufactured to the exact specifications required by Hobbywing's patented staggered pole rotor design, which has revolutionised precision throttle control in the RC crawler community. The AXE540 bearing set is compatible with all AXE 540-series motors across their various KV ratings (1200KV, 1800KV, and 2300KV variants), making this a versatile solution for anyone running this advanced rock crawler system. For UK-based RC enthusiasts who demand reliability and performance from their electric RC cars and crawlers, this bearing replacement set is manufactured to exacting tolerances and quality standards.

Rock crawling demands absolute precision from every component, and bearings are no exception. Over time and with regular use—especially in challenging terrain and harsh conditions—even quality bearings will eventually require replacement to maintain optimal motor performance. Hobbywing's genuine AXE540 bearing set is the authentic choice that guarantees compatibility and maintains the performance characteristics that make the AXE system so effective for rock crawling and trail exploration.

Key Features

  • Precision Magnetic Encoder Compatibility — These bearings work seamlessly with the high-precision magnetic encoder built into AXE 540-series motors, ensuring that the encoder maintains perfect alignment and consistency when providing motor data to the ESC. This is critical for the FOC (Field-Oriented Control) system to function at its peak, delivering the smooth, linear throttle response and torque control that defines the AXE experience.
  • Ultra-Low Torque Ripple Design Support — By maintaining perfect bearing clearances and rotational geometry, this bearing set preserves the patented staggered pole rotor design's ability to eliminate cogging and torque pulsation, ensuring your motor continues to deliver the smooth, consistent acceleration and deceleration that is essential for precise trail and rock crawling.
  • Sealed Construction for Durability — The bearing set supports the AXE system's completely sealed motor design, protecting internal components from water, mud, dirt and dust. After use in harsh conditions, simply dismantle the motor, clean it thoroughly, and apply lubricant to these bearings to restore full performance.
  • Easy Installation and Maintenance — These standard-sized precision bearings (D5 x D13 x t4mm, rated 695DD) can be quickly replaced during routine motor maintenance, allowing you to restore your AXE motor to like-new performance without requiring specialist tools or technical knowledge beyond basic RC hobby skills.
  • Genuine Hobbywing Component — As an official replacement part from Hobbywing, you can be confident that these bearings meet the exact specifications and quality standards required by the AXE system, ensuring perfect fit and function with your existing motor.

Technical Performance

The AXE540 bearing set consists of precision ball bearings sized at D5 x D13 x t4mm, with both front and rear bearing positions utilising the 695DD specification. These compact, high-precision bearings are engineered to support the rotational characteristics of the 1/10th scale AXE 540-series brushless motor, which features a 36.0mm outer diameter, 3.175mm shaft diameter, and operates across KV ratings from 1200KV to 2300KV. The bearings maintain the tight tolerances necessary for the motor's 4-pole staggered rotor design to function without cogging or torque ripple, even under the demanding conditions of rock crawling where load conditions constantly change. When paired with the high-precision magnetic encoder system, these bearings ensure that motor speed and torque information is relayed to the ESC with absolute consistency, enabling the FOC control algorithm to maintain perfect throttle linearity. The sealed design prevents water ingress whilst allowing the bearings to be easily accessed for cleaning and re-lubrication after use in mud, water, or dusty terrain. For rock crawlers operating in the UK where weather conditions range from wet moorland to dry rocky outcrops, this bearing set provides the precision foundation that transforms the difference between sluggish, unpredictable motor response and the lightning-fast, proportional control that serious scalers demand.

What's in the Box

  • Front bearing set for AXE 540-series motor (D5 x D13 x t4mm 695DD specification)
  • Rear bearing set for AXE 540-series motor (D5 x D13 x t4mm 695DD specification)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which AXE motors are compatible with this bearing set? — This bearing set is compatible with all Hobbywing XeRun AXE 540-series motors, including the 1200KV, 1800KV, and 2300KV variants. The standard D5 x D13 x t4mm bearing specification (695DD) is used in both front and rear bearing positions across all AXE 540 motors. This bearing set will not fit the larger AXE 550-series motors, which use the same bearing specification but are mounted in longer 550-size motor housings.
  • How often should I replace these bearings in my rock crawler? — Bearing replacement frequency depends on usage intensity, running conditions, and maintenance routine. For regular weekend trail and rock crawling, inspecting bearings every 20-30 hours of runtime is sensible. After running in harsh conditions—particularly in mud, sand, or saltwater environments—you should dismantle the motor, clean it thoroughly, inspect the bearings for contamination or wear, and apply fresh lubricant. If you notice increased motor noise, sluggish response, or grinding sensations during operation, these are signs that bearings may need replacement.
  • Can I use standard RC hobby bearings from other manufacturers? — Whilst the D5 x D13 x t4mm bearing specification is relatively common in RC hobby motors, using non-genuine bearings risks introducing dimensional variations that could affect the precision alignment required by the AXE system's high-precision magnetic encoder. Hobbywing's genuine AXE540 bearing set is manufactured to exact tolerances and is designed specifically for this advanced motor system. For the best performance and reliability, genuine Hobbywing components are recommended.
  • What should I do after running my AXE motor in wet or muddy conditions? — The AXE motor is sealed to IP-67 waterproof standards, but after running in harsh conditions such as mud, water, or dusty terrain, Hobbywing recommends dismantling and cleaning the motor, then applying lubricant to the bearings. This maintenance routine removes any contaminants that may have entered the sealed motor housing and ensures the bearings continue to rotate smoothly and freely. Take care to avoid forcing bearings during cleaning—if they feel rough or grinding, replacement with this bearing set is necessary.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Bearing replacement requires basic mechanical skills and the ability to safely disassemble a brushless motor without damaging internal components or wiring. If you are new to RC car maintenance, it is recommended to seek assistance from an experienced RC enthusiast or visit your local RC hobby shop for guidance. Most RC Model Shop customers who have built or maintained RC vehicles find bearing replacement to be a straightforward task once familiarised with their specific motor design.
  • What is the difference between AXE 540 and AXE 550 bearings? — Whilst both use the same D5 x D13 x t4mm bearing specification (695DD), the AXE 540 and AXE 550 motors have different overall lengths and housings due to their different design purposes. The AXE 540 is the shorter variant (48.8mm length) suitable for most 1/10th scale rock crawlers, whilst the AXE 550 is longer (66.2mm) and designed for specific applications requiring extended motor housings. You must verify which motor size you operate before ordering the correct bearing set.
