Technical Performance
The Overlander XT60U to 4mm Gold Connectors Charge Lead represents a carefully engineered balance between performance, safety, and practicality. The 14AWG (2.5mm) multi-strand silicone wire specification is critical to this lead's performance characteristics. This gauge provides a low-resistance pathway for charging current, which is essential because even small amounts of resistance generate heat and reduce charging efficiency. The multi-strand construction offers superior flexibility compared to solid-core wire of the same gauge, allowing the lead to withstand repeated bending without developing microfractures that could increase resistance over time. Silicone insulation is chosen for its temperature resistance and flexibility; it remains supple even at low temperatures and doesn't become brittle with age like PVC insulation can. The gold-plated brass connectors on both ends further contribute to low-resistance connections. Brass provides an excellent electrical conductor, whilst the gold plating protects against oxidation and corrosion that would increase resistance and create unreliable connections. The XT60U connector features a robust mechanical design that ensures a secure fit with modern RC batteries, whilst the 4mm banana plugs provide universal compatibility with standard RC chargers. The 300mm length is optimised to provide sufficient reach for most charging arrangements without excess wire that could tangle or create trip hazards. The nylon insulation on the connectors provides both mechanical protection and thermal resistance, ensuring the connectors maintain their integrity during charging. This lead is suitable for use with LiPo batteries of any capacity, as well as NiMH and Li-Ion batteries equipped with XT60U connectors. The robust construction ensures this lead will provide reliable service through years of regular RC charging sessions, whether you're charging batteries for RC cars, planes, helicopters, boats, or drones.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What types of RC batteries can I use this charge lead with? — This charge lead is compatible with any RC battery equipped with an XT60U male connector, including LiPo (Lithium Polymer), NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride), and Li-Ion (Lithium-Ion) battery packs. The XT60U connector is becoming increasingly standard on modern RC batteries, so if your battery features this connector type, this lead will work reliably with your setup. It's essential to verify that your battery has an XT60U connector (not a standard XT60, which is a different connector design) before purchasing this lead.
- Is this charge lead suitable for beginners in RC hobbies? — Absolutely. This charge lead is ideal for beginners because it requires no soldering, assembly, or technical knowledge to use. Simply plug the XT60U male connector into your battery and insert the 4mm banana plugs into your charger, and you're ready to charge. The robust construction and safety-focused design also make it a reliable choice for anyone new to RC, as you don't need to worry about connection quality or safety issues. Whether you're just starting out with a ready to run RC car or moving up to more advanced equipment, this lead will serve you well.
- Will this charge lead work with my existing charger? — This lead will work with any RC charger that features 4mm banana plug connectors on its charging ports. Most standard RC chargers, including basic single-channel chargers and advanced multi-chemistry fast chargers, utilise 4mm banana plugs as the industry standard. If you're unsure whether your charger has 4mm connectors, check your charger's specifications or examine the charging ports directly; 4mm banana plugs are larger than smaller 2mm or 3.5mm plugs and are easy to identify visually. If your charger uses a different connector type (such as XT60, Deans, or proprietary connectors), you would need a different charge lead or an adapter.
- What is the difference between XT60U and standard XT60 connectors? — The XT60U is an improved version of the standard XT60 connector that offers enhanced durability and improved fit. The XT60U features updated internal contact geometry and tighter tolerances, which means it maintains a more secure connection and resists loosening over time. Additionally, the XT60U is designed to handle high currents safely whilst minimising voltage drops. If your battery is equipped with an XT60U connector, this lead will provide the most reliable and secure connection compared to using an older XT60-compatible lead. The two connector types are not cross-compatible, so it's essential to confirm which type your battery uses before purchasing.
- How long will this charge lead last with regular use? — With proper care, this charge lead should provide reliable service for years of regular RC charging sessions. The premium 14AWG silicone wire and gold-plated connectors are designed to withstand hundreds of charge cycles without degradation. The soft silicone insulation remains flexible even after extended use and doesn't crack or become brittle like cheaper materials. The gold plating protects the connectors from corrosion and oxidation that would normally increase resistance and reduce connection reliability. To maximise the lifespan of your charge lead, avoid excessive strain on the connectors, store it away from extreme temperatures, and occasionally inspect the wire insulation for any signs of damage.
- Can I use this charge lead to discharge my batteries? — Whilst this charge lead can technically be used for discharging through a charger that supports discharge functions, it is primarily designed and optimised for charging applications. If you need to discharge your batteries, most modern RC chargers include discharge functionality that works safely with standard charge leads. Always follow your charger's instructions regarding discharge operations and never discharge batteries faster than the charger recommends, as rapid discharging can generate excessive heat and reduce battery lifespan.
- Why does my charge lead feel warm during charging? — Some warmth during charging is normal and expected, particularly when charging high-capacity batteries or when the charging current is high. The warmth you feel is the result of electrical resistance, which is inevitable in any conductor. However, the premium 14AWG wire and gold-plated connectors used in the Overlander 2803 are specifically chosen to minimise this resistance compared to lower-quality leads. If your charge lead feels excessively hot (too hot to hold comfortably), this could indicate a problem with the connection, the charger, or the battery, and you should immediately stop charging and investigate the issue. Properly functioning charge leads will be warm to the touch but never dangerously hot.
