Key Features
- 16AWG Multi-Strand Silicone Wire — The cable is constructed from 16AWG (1.5mm) soft silicone wire, which provides an optimal balance between current-carrying capacity and flexibility, ensuring safe, efficient power transfer whilst remaining easy to handle and position in tight spaces.
- Gold-Plated Brass Connectors — Both the Deans and 4mm banana plug connectors feature gold-plated brass construction, which minimises electrical resistance, ensures stable contact, and protects against corrosion for long-lasting reliable performance across repeated use.
- Durable Soft Silicone Insulation — The soft silicone wire jacket provides exceptional flexibility and resistance to wear, heat, and damage, allowing the cable to withstand the rigours of frequent charging sessions without degradation or cracking.
- Male Deans (T-Plug) Connector — The Male Deans connector, also recognised as a T-Plug, is one of the most popular battery connectors in the RC hobby, ensuring compatibility with a vast range of modern RC batteries and providing secure, low-resistance electrical contact.
- Universal 4mm Banana Plugs — Fitted with standard 4mm banana plugs on the charger end, this cable works with the majority of RC battery chargers available in the UK market, eliminating compatibility concerns and maximising your charging flexibility.
- Compact 200mm Length — The 200mm length has been precisely selected to offer sufficient reach for comfortable connection between charger and battery, whilst keeping cable bulk to a minimum, reducing clutter on your bench or trackside charging setup.
- Nylon (PA) Insulator — The connectors feature nylon insulation, which provides robust protection, enhances durability, and protects against accidental shorts or damage during charging operations.
Technical Performance
The Overlander Deans Charge Lead represents a carefully engineered solution for safe, efficient RC battery charging. Constructed from 16AWG (1.5mm) multi-strand silicone wire, this cable delivers an excellent combination of electrical performance and practical usability. The 16AWG gauge is specifically selected to handle the current demands of modern RC battery charging whilst maintaining flexibility for repeated handling. The multi-strand construction ensures that the wire resists fatigue from bending and flexing, a critical consideration for charging cables that are connected and disconnected frequently. The soft silicone jacket provides superior flexibility compared to standard PVC insulation, making it significantly easier to route cables in confined spaces, whether on a workbench, in a charging bag, or at a race track. Gold-plated brass connectors at both ends ensure minimal voltage drop during charging, which translates to faster, more efficient charge cycles and reduced heat generation. The Male Deans (T-Plug) connector has become the industry standard for modern RC batteries due to its secure fit, low-profile design, and excellent contact integrity. The 4mm banana plug connectors are universally recognised across RC chargers in the UK and internationally, making this cable compatible with the vast majority of chargers on the market. At 300mm in total length (30cm as specified on the manufacturer page), this cable is substantial enough to provide practical reach without creating excessive cable management issues. The nylon insulation on connectors provides additional protection against accidental shorting and environmental damage.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What chargers will this Overlander Deans Charge Lead work with? — This charge lead is compatible with the majority of RC battery chargers that accept 4mm banana plugs. Most modern multi-chemistry chargers available in the UK market feature 4mm banana plug inputs, making this cable a versatile addition to any charging setup. If your charger has banana plug sockets, this lead will provide a secure connection. Always verify your charger specifications before purchase if you are uncertain.
- Is this charge lead suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. This Overlander charge lead is designed for RC enthusiasts of all experience levels, from absolute beginners to advanced competitors. The connectors are colour-coded for polarity, the soft silicone wire is easy to handle, and the robust construction means it will withstand casual handling without issues. For anyone new to RC charging, a quality charge lead like this eliminates many of the safety and efficiency concerns that come with low-quality alternatives.
- What is the difference between 16AWG and thicker gauges? — The 16AWG (1.5mm) wire gauge in this cable provides an excellent balance of current capacity and flexibility. Thicker gauges like 12AWG carry slightly higher current with lower resistance but are less flexible and harder to manage in confined spaces. For typical RC charging applications using standard capacity batteries (up to around 5000mAh), 16AWG provides more than sufficient capacity whilst remaining practical to use. Higher-capacity or multi-battery parallel charging may benefit from thicker gauges, but for single-pack charging, 16AWG is ideal.
- Can I use this lead for discharging batteries? — Whilst this charge lead is designed and optimised for charging, it can technically be used for discharging applications. However, for dedicated discharging operations, a purpose-designed discharge lead may be preferable. Always ensure any connector is properly seated and secure before connecting to a charger or discharger.
- Why are gold-plated connectors important? — Gold plating on connectors serves two critical purposes: it minimises electrical resistance at the connection point, which reduces heat generation and improves charging efficiency, and it protects the underlying brass from corrosion and oxidation. This means your connections will remain reliable and low-resistance across hundreds of charge cycles, even with regular use. Poor-quality connectors without gold plating can accumulate oxidation, increasing resistance and reducing charging speed over time.
- Is this cable safe for LiPo, LiIon, and NiMH batteries? — Yes, this charge lead is suitable for use with LiPo, LiIon, NiMH, and other RC battery types. The cable itself is chemistry-agnostic; safety and compatibility depend on your charger. Always use a charger appropriate to your battery chemistry and follow manufacturer guidelines for safe charging of your specific battery type. The Deans connector is widely used across all modern RC battery types in the UK market.
