Overview

The Traxxas Oil, shock (70 wt, 900 cSt, 60cc) (Silicone) TRX5036 is a premium suspension fluid designed for RC enthusiasts who demand precision and consistency in their vehicle setup. Whether you're a seasoned RC racer in the UK or a weekend basher looking to optimise your RC car's handling, this 100% pure silicone shock oil allows you to fine-tune your suspension for maximum performance on any terrain. Traxxas has engineered this complete line of premium shock oil to deliver the exact viscosity control needed for serious competition and recreational driving alike.

This 70 weight shock oil represents one of seven precise viscosity options available in the Traxxas shock oil range, giving you the flexibility to dial in your suspension setup exactly as you need it. The medium viscosity of 900 cSt makes this 70wt formula ideal for a wide variety of RC vehicles and driving conditions, whether you're tackling off-road terrain, street courses, or bashing in the park. The large 60ml (2 fl.oz) bottle size is sufficient to fill all four shocks on most RC models, making it excellent value for money and perfect for keeping your shock absorbers properly maintained throughout the racing season.

What sets this Traxxas shock oil apart from generic alternatives is the commitment to 100% silicone construction and consistent cSt viscosity specification that ensures you get the same performance from every bottle you purchase. Unlike inferior shock oils that can vary in thickness, this premium formulation guarantees that your suspension tuning remains stable and predictable, essential for any RC car UK enthusiast serious about competitive performance or reliable recreational driving.

Key Features

  • 100% Pure Silicone Oil — This shock oil is made entirely from premium silicone, not synthetic blends or mineral oil alternatives, which ensures maximum consistency and reliability in your suspension system. Silicone oil resists breakdown under the high pressures and temperatures experienced inside shock absorbers, maintaining its viscosity properties lap after lap.
  • 70 Weight (900 cSt) Viscosity — The 70 weight rating corresponds to exactly 900 cSt viscosity specification, placing this fluid in the mid-range of Traxxas's seven-step viscosity lineup (20wt to 80wt, or 200cSt to 1000cSt). This medium viscosity makes it versatile enough for most driving styles and conditions, providing a good balance between damping response and suspension compliance.
  • Precision-Pour, Twist-Nozzle Cap — The specially designed cap features a precision-pour spout that allows you to fill your shock bodies quickly and cleanly without messy spills or wastage. The twist-nozzle mechanism gives you precise control over fluid flow, making the process of refilling or adjusting shock oil straightforward even for newcomers to RC suspension tuning.
  • Large 60ml Bottle Size — At 60ml (2 fl.oz), this bottle contains enough shock oil to completely fill all four shock absorbers on most RC models in a single go. This generous size means you'll have reliable, high-quality oil on hand for initial setup, maintenance, and suspension tuning without needing to purchase multiple bottles for a single vehicle.
  • Consistent cSt Viscosity Specification — Every bottle of Traxxas shock oil is manufactured to strict viscosity standards, ensuring that you get exactly the same 900 cSt rating from batch to batch. This consistency is absolutely critical for competitive RC racing, where even slight variations in suspension response can affect lap times and handling characteristics.
  • Seven Precise Viscosity Options Available — Whilst this product is the 70 weight variant, Traxxas offers the complete range from 20wt (200cSt) through to 80wt (1000cSt), allowing dedicated tuners to experiment with different damping rates and dial in the perfect setup for their specific driving conditions and vehicle platform.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas 70wt shock oil is engineered with precision manufacturing standards that ensure every bottle meets strict viscosity specifications of 900 cSt. The 100% silicone construction is critical for performance — silicone oils maintain their viscosity properties across a wider temperature range than mineral or synthetic alternatives, which means your suspension will respond consistently whether you're racing on a hot summer day or during cooler autumn months. The mid-range 70 weight viscosity sits perfectly in the sweet spot for general-purpose RC use, offering enough damping to control body roll and chassis movement whilst remaining responsive enough for trail braking and dynamic handling. The precision-pour twist-nozzle cap is not merely a convenience feature; it's an engineering detail that prevents air bubbles from entering your shock bodies during refilling, which can compromise damping performance. This bottle size of 60ml is optimised for the most common RC vehicles on the market — four-wheel drive buggies, stadium trucks, monster trucks and short course truck platforms — allowing complete shock servicing without left-over fluid. The cSt viscosity standard ensures that whether you're buying your first bottle or your tenth, the suspension response will be absolutely identical, eliminating variables from your tuning process and allowing you to confidently make suspension adjustments based purely on track conditions rather than fluid batch variations.

Suspension Tuning Fundamentals

Shock oil viscosity directly impacts your RC vehicle's suspension performance. Lighter weight oils (20wt-40wt) provide softer damping, allowing the suspension to move more freely and respond quickly to track inputs — ideal for smooth surfaces and drivers who prefer a compliant, forgiving setup. Heavier weight oils (60wt-80wt) provide firmer damping, resisting rapid suspension movement and reducing body roll during aggressive cornering — preferred for bumpy terrain, high-speed driving, and stability-focused setups. The 70wt medium viscosity of this shock oil makes it an excellent starting point for tuning, sitting right in the middle of the range and suitable for most driving conditions. As you gain experience with RC car UK suspension tuning, you can reference Traxxas's Suspension Tuning Series Part 2: Shock Absorbers resource to learn how adjusting oil weight affects your vehicle's handling balance, corner speed, and responsiveness. Many experienced RC racers maintain a collection of different viscosity oils — this is why Traxxas offers the complete seven-weight lineup and the optional Shock Oil Set with Carousel Organiser (model 5038X) that keeps your collection neatly organised and easily accessible during setup sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the 70 weight and 900 cSt specification mean? — Weight (wt) and centistokes (cSt) are two ways of measuring oil viscosity, which describes how thick or thin the oil is. The 70 weight rating and 900 cSt specification both describe the same viscosity level — thicker than 20wt (200cSt) but thinner than 80wt (1000cSt). This medium viscosity provides balanced damping suitable for most RC vehicles and driving styles.
  • Is this shock oil suitable for RC beginners? — Yes, the 70 weight viscosity is an excellent starting point for beginners because it provides a good balance between responsive handling and forgiving suspension performance across a variety of conditions. Once you gain experience and understand how your specific RC vehicle responds, you can experiment with lighter or heavier oils to fine-tune your setup further.
  • How often should I change my RC shock oil? — Shock oil should be serviced regularly, depending on how frequently you use your RC vehicle. For casual weekend bashers, annual servicing is sufficient. For competitive racers running multiple times per week, oil should be checked and potentially replaced every few months, or whenever you notice the suspension becoming less responsive. The 60ml bottle size ensures you always have fresh oil on hand for maintenance.
  • Why is 100% silicone oil better than other types? — Silicone oil maintains consistent viscosity across a wider temperature range than mineral or synthetic blends, meaning your suspension response remains predictable whether you're racing in hot or cool conditions. Silicone is also less prone to breakdown under the extreme pressures and movements experienced inside shock absorbers, resulting in longer-lasting damping performance and more reliable tuning between service intervals.
  • Can I mix different weight shock oils? — Mixing different viscosity oils is not recommended because it will create an unpredictable fluid viscosity that compromises suspension tuning. Each shock should be filled with the same weight oil for consistent, balanced suspension performance across all four corners of your vehicle. If you want to experiment with different viscosities, adjust the weight in all four shocks simultaneously to maintain vehicle balance.
  • Will this shock oil work in all RC vehicles? — This 70 weight shock oil is suitable for the vast majority of RC cars, buggies, trucks and crawlers that use oil-filled shock absorbers. However, some specialised vehicles or ultra-lightweight racing platforms may benefit from different viscosity ratings. Consult your vehicle's manual or Traxxas's Suspension Tuning Series resources to determine the optimal starting oil weight for your specific model.
  • What makes Traxxas shock oil different from budget alternatives? — Traxxas shock oil is manufactured to strict cSt viscosity specifications, meaning every bottle delivers exactly the same damping characteristics. Budget alternatives often have inconsistent viscosity from batch to batch, which introduces variables into your suspension tuning and makes it impossible to reliably adjust your setup. With Traxxas oil, you're purchasing consistency, predictability, and the ability to make confident tuning decisions based purely on track feedback rather than fluid variations.
