Overview
The Carisma Scale Adventure V2 Front and Rear Shock and Body Post Mount Set (SCA-1E) represents a premium upgrade for your 1/10th scale RC crawler or adventure rig. Whether you're running trails, rock crawling, or competing in endurance events and scale competitions, this comprehensive shock and mounting system transforms your RC car's handling and performance. Designed by Carisma with their substantial heritage in the racing field, these shocks deliver the kind of precision tuning and reliability that serious RC enthusiasts across the UK demand from their builds. This is not a basic entry-level component — it's a competition-grade upgrade that will make an immediate difference to how your rig responds to terrain.
If you own a Carisma Scale Adventure SCA-1E model, or run a compatible 1/10th scale RC rig, this shock and body post mount set is engineered to handle whatever terrain you throw at it. Many RC users find that swapping their stock RTR or entry-level kit shocks for quality aftermarket suspension makes the difference between a capable rig and one that conquers lines you once thought impossible. The secret is simple: well-setup shocks maintain better tyre contact with the terrain, which generates grip and allows your RC crawler to navigate obstacles with confidence and consistency.
This set combines aluminium pro shocks with proper body post mounting hardware, giving you everything needed to upgrade your front and rear suspension in one purchase. The 90mm shock length is ideal for Carisma SCA-1E rigs and works with many other 1/10th scale RC models on the market today. For builders who need even shorter shocks, these can be internally limited for specialised applications. Available now at RC Model Shop, this is your opportunity to experience professional-grade suspension tuning at a cost-effective price point.
Key Features
- Aluminium Pro Shock Bodies — The shocks feature threaded alloy bodies that provide durability and precision adjustability, allowing you to fine-tune your suspension setup with confidence and achieve repeatable results run after run.
- 90mm Shock Length — Purpose-designed at 90mm, these shocks are ideal for both Carisma SCA-1E rigs and many other 1/10th scale RC crawlers and adventure vehicles on the market, providing optimal suspension travel and geometry.
- Double O-Ring Seals — The double O-ring seal design prevents oil leaks and maintains optimum shock performance across multiple runs, eliminating the frustration of fluid loss that plagues lower-quality suspensions.
- Volume Compensating Diaphragms — This advanced engineering feature allows the shocks to compensate for changes in fluid volume as the suspension moves, ensuring consistent performance regardless of temperature or driving conditions.
- Ultra-Smooth Shock Action — Designed for smooth compression and rebound characteristics, these shocks deliver predictable handling that helps you confidently navigate technical terrain and rock obstacles.
- Longer Rebuild Intervals — The robust design and quality seals mean you'll spend less time maintaining your shocks and more time enjoying your RC vehicle, with extended periods between full rebuilds.
- Three-Way Fine-Tuning — Adjust compression and rebound using oil viscosity, spring rate selection, and the threaded preload collars, giving you professional-level suspension tuning capability without specialist tools.
- Internal Limiting Option — For applications where even shorter shocks are required, these units can be internally limited, adding versatility to your RC setup and platform compatibility.
- Competition-Ready Design — Built with the same engineering philosophy as Carisma's racing suspension components, these shocks are spec'd for endurance events and scale competitions as well as recreational crawling.
- Complete Body Post Mounting System — This set includes all necessary body post mounting hardware for front and rear installation, ensuring a complete suspension upgrade without the need to source additional components.
Technical Performance
The SCA-1E Aluminium Pro Shocks represent several generations of Carisma's racing suspension expertise applied to the scale adventure platform. Each shock is precision-manufactured with threaded aluminium bodies that resist bending under load whilst remaining lightweight, a critical balance in 1/10th scale RC engineering. The double O-ring seal system is the key to maintaining performance consistency — standard single-seal shocks gradually lose fluid during extended runs, which changes their spring rate and damping characteristics unpredictably. By incorporating dual seals, Carisma ensures your shock damping curve remains stable whether you're on your first run or your tenth consecutive outing. The volume compensating diaphragm technology works in harmony with these seals to accommodate the slight changes in hydraulic fluid volume that occur as temperature varies, meaning your suspension tuning remains consistent from morning to afternoon runs. At 90mm in length, these shocks are specifically dimensioned to work with 1/10th scale RC crawlers and adventure rigs, providing adequate suspension travel (the distance the shock can compress and extend) whilst maintaining proper body clearance and geometry. The internal design prioritises smooth damping action — compression and rebound tuning that responds predictably to terrain inputs — which translates to better tyre contact with rocks, obstacles and uneven ground. Whether you're running on rocky terrain in Wales or smooth trails in Yorkshire, the precision-engineered internals respond consistently. Fine-tuning capability is where these shocks shine for the serious builder. By selecting different oil viscosity weights (measured in centistokes), you adjust overall damping. Spring rates control how hard the suspension resists being compressed. The threaded preload collars allow you to adjust spring preload — the amount of compression applied to the spring at rest — which changes how the shock feels when you first compress it versus deep compression. This three-way tuning methodology is standard on professional racing suspensions but rarely found at this price point. The result is that your RC crawler can be tuned for your specific vehicle weight, your driving style, and your terrain preference, whether that's rocky endurance runs, technical rock crawling, or full-on scale competition events.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these shocks suitable for a beginner RC enthusiast? — Yes, absolutely. Whilst these are premium-spec shocks, they're designed to be easy to set up and tune. Beginners benefit immediately from upgrading stock shocks to these aluminium pro units, and the three-way tuning system (oil, springs, preload) is straightforward to learn. Unlike complex racing suspensions with oil ports and adjustment screws everywhere, the SCA-1E shocks keep tuning accessible whilst offering genuine performance gains.
- What makes these shocks better than the ones that come with my RTR? — Stock shocks on ready-to-run RC vehicles are generally simple sealed units with basic damping and limited tuning. These pro shocks feature double O-ring seals that prevent fluid loss (keeping your suspension consistent across multiple runs), volume compensating diaphragms for temperature stability, threaded aluminium bodies for durability, and three-way fine-tuning capability. Most importantly, the precision engineering means your RC crawler will maintain better tyre contact with terrain, generating grip and allowing it to climb and crawl over obstacles that would defeat a stock suspension.
- Can I use these shocks on models other than the Carisma SCA-1E? — The 90mm length makes them compatible with many 1/10th scale RC crawlers and adventure vehicles on the market. However, you should verify compatibility with your specific model before purchasing. If your model uses a different mounting pattern or shock length, these may not fit correctly. Check the body post mounting system matches your chassis geometry.
- How often will I need to service these shocks? — Carisma's engineering focus on longer rebuild intervals means you'll spend less time maintaining your shocks than with budget alternatives. The double O-ring seals prevent oil leaks that degrade performance, so you can run multiple sessions without noticing damping changes. A complete rebuild (flushing old oil, replacing seals, refreshing springs) is typically recommended annually for regular users, or every 20-30 hours of intense use for competition drivers.
- What oil viscosity should I use for trail running versus rock crawling? — This depends on your vehicle weight, terrain, and driving style. Lighter vehicles and technical rock crawling typically benefit from lighter oil (30wt to 40wt), which allows quicker shock movement and better feel over small obstacles. Trail running and bashing often prefer slightly heavier oil (40wt to 50wt) for more damping and stability. Start with a medium viscosity (40wt) and adjust based on how your rig handles — if it bounces too much, go heavier; if it feels sluggish and doesn't respond well to small terrain variations, go lighter.
- Are the springs adjustable? — The shocks come with springs included, and you can upgrade to different spring rates (measured in pounds per inch, or lbs/in) for different setups. Stiffer springs (higher numbers) are better for heavier rigs or high-speed bashing. Softer springs (lower numbers) provide better terrain conformance for technical rock crawling. The threaded preload collars allow you to adjust how much the spring is pre-compressed without changing the spring rate, which affects how the shock feels in the initial compression range.
- Can these shocks be shortened internally? — Yes, Carisma specifically notes that these shocks can be internally limited for applications where even shorter shocks are required. This means the internal shock rod can be adjusted to reduce the maximum compression distance, allowing these 90mm shocks to work in vehicles with even tighter suspension clearance. This is an advanced modification typically requiring opening the shock body, so professional assistance is recommended.
- What's the difference between compression and rebound adjustment? — Compression damping controls how hard the shock resists being pushed together (compressed) when you hit an obstacle or land from a jump. Rebound damping controls how quickly the shock extends back to its resting position after being compressed. Together, they determine how your suspension responds to terrain — too much compression damping and your rig feels stiff and doesn't absorb impacts; too little and it bounces uncontrollably. Rebound adjustment prevents the suspension from extending so fast that it causes oscillation and instability.
