Overview

The AXIAL Bearing 7x14x3.5mm (2) Z-AX31406 is a genuine replacement bearing set designed for serious RC enthusiasts who demand precision engineering and durability in their rock crawlers and trail buggies. These open-race ball bearings are manufactured by Axial with high-quality components to ensure long-lasting performance in demanding off-road conditions. Whether you're running an SCX10 III, Capra, or other compatible Axial platform, this bearing pair provides the smooth rolling action and mechanical reliability that separates a finely-tuned RC crawler from a sluggish baseline build.

If you're upgrading your RC car UK setup or maintaining your trail-rated rock crawler, genuine Axial bearings like the AX31406 are an investment in performance and longevity. These aren't generic substitute parts — they're engineered specifically for Axial vehicles, ensuring perfect fitment and optimal mechanical advantage. RC enthusiasts across the UK trust Axial genuine parts for consistent, predictable performance whether they're tackling rocky terrain or technical courses.

This bearing set is particularly valuable if you're building or upgrading your rock crawler with the AR44 locker (AX31404), where precision bearings make a measurable difference in torque delivery and articulation. For anyone serious about their 1/10 scale RC experience, quality bearings are non-negotiable.

Key Features

  • Steel Construction — These bearings are built from durable steel materials that withstand the constant stress and impacts typical of rock crawling and trail running, providing reliable performance across thousands of rotations without premature wear.
  • Open-Race Design — The open-race specification allows these bearings to roll with minimal resistance compared to sealed or bushed alternatives, meaning your motor delivers more of its power directly to the wheels and drivetrain.
  • Less Rolling Resistance Than Bushings — By using precision ball bearings instead of bushed alternatives, you reduce friction throughout your drivetrain, which translates to improved efficiency, better handling response, and reduced heat generation during extended running sessions.
  • Greater Precision Engineering — Genuine Axial ball bearings are manufactured to exacting tolerances that ensure smooth, consistent rotation, allowing your RC crawler to navigate obstacles more predictably and respond better to driver input.
  • Genuine Axial Manufacturing — These are authentic Axial parts manufactured with the same quality control and specifications as original equipment, ensuring compatibility and performance matching factory standards.
  • AR44 Locker Compatible — These bearings are specifically designed to work in conjunction with the AR44 locker (AX31404), creating a high-performance drivetrain system for serious rock crawlers.
  • Pair Configuration — This package contains two individual bearings, allowing you to replace a complete axle shaft's bearing set or maintain spares for your trail-running fleet.

Technical Performance

The 7x14x3.5mm bearing dimensions represent a carefully engineered size that balances load capacity with rotational speed for 1/10 scale rock crawlers and trail buggies. The 7mm inner bore accommodates standard Axial axle shafts, whilst the 14mm outer diameter and 3.5mm width provide sufficient surface area and contact pressure to handle the demanding forces encountered during crawling, climbing, and traversing challenging terrain. These open-race ball bearings dramatically outperform traditional bushed alternatives in terms of mechanical efficiency and response time. When combined with the AR44 locker system, they enable your RC car UK build to achieve the precision articulation and torque delivery required for competitive rock crawling. The steel construction ensures longevity even under constant stress, whilst the precision manufacturing maintains consistent rolling characteristics throughout the bearing's operational life. For builders upgrading from factory stock drivetrain components, these genuine Axial bearings represent one of the highest-impact performance improvements available, delivering noticeable reductions in friction and improvements in drivability that experienced RC enthusiasts immediately appreciate.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What models are these bearings compatible with? — These AX31406 bearings are compatible with a comprehensive range of Axial 1/10 scale models including the SCX10 III series (Base Camp, Coyote, Early Ford Bronco, Jeep CJ-7, Jeep JLU Wrangler with Portals, Jeep JT Gladiator with Portals, Jeep Gladiator Elite Edition, 1987 Toyota SR5), SCX10 II series (Deadbolt, Jeep Cherokee, Trail Honcho, UMG10 6x6), Capra series (Capra 1.9 4WD, Capra 1.9 4WS 4X4, Capra Unlimited), SCX10 PRO, Wraith 1.9, and UTB10 Capra 1.9 4WS models. Check your specific model against the comprehensive fitment list to confirm compatibility.
  • Why should I upgrade to ball bearings from bushings? — Ball bearings provide significantly less rolling resistance than traditional bushings, which means your motor's power is transmitted more efficiently to the wheels. This results in improved acceleration response, better drivability, reduced heat generation in the drivetrain, and enhanced articulation precision — all critical factors for competitive rock crawling and challenging trail running.
  • Are these genuine Axial parts? — Yes, these are authentic Axial-manufactured bearings built with the same quality components and specifications as original equipment. Genuine Axial parts ensure perfect fitment, consistent performance characteristics, and compatibility with other Axial components like the AR44 locker system.
  • How many bearings do I need to replace? — Axial 1/10 scale rock crawlers typically require multiple bearing sets depending on your drivetrain configuration. This pack contains two bearings, which is enough to replace one axle shaft's bearing pair. Most builders maintain multiple packs for complete drivetrain upgrades or as spare parts for ongoing maintenance.
  • Do these bearings require maintenance? — As open-race bearings, they benefit from periodic inspection and cleaning, particularly after running in muddy or sandy conditions. Regular maintenance extends bearing life and maintains optimal performance characteristics.
  • What is the difference between open-race and sealed bearings? — Open-race bearings like the AX31406 offer lower rolling resistance and faster rotational response compared to sealed alternatives, making them ideal for performance-focused builds. Sealed bearings provide better protection against dirt and mud but introduce slightly more friction. For serious RC crawling enthusiasts, open-race bearings are the preferred choice.
