Key Features
- 48-Pitch Tooth Profile — The 48-pitch specification ensures precise meshing with compatible pinion gears in your Traxxas drivetrain system, delivering smooth power transfer and consistent performance without slippage or noise issues that could compromise your driving experience.
- 76-Tooth Configuration — This specific tooth count is engineered to provide a particular gear ratio that influences acceleration and top speed balance, allowing you to tailor your RC car's performance characteristics to your preferred running conditions and driving environment.
- Torque-Control Slipper Clutch Compatibility — Designed exclusively for models equipped with Traxxas Torque-Control slipper clutches, this gear works in perfect harmony with this advanced drivetrain protection system, ensuring smooth power delivery whilst safeguarding your transmission from damage during high-speed runs.
- Precision Manufacturing — Each gear is manufactured to Traxxas's exacting specifications, ensuring dimensional accuracy and durability that translates to reliable, consistent performance across multiple driving sessions without premature wear or tooth damage.
- Easy Installation — The spur gear is designed as a direct replacement component for compatible Traxxas models, meaning installation requires no special modifications or additional components—simply remove the old gear and install the new one for immediate performance improvement.
- Performance Tuning Flexibility — By changing spur gear ratios, you can optimise your Traxxas RC car for different scenarios: higher tooth counts like the 76-tooth option favour acceleration and low-end torque, making them ideal for technical terrain or tight courses.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas Spur 76-tooth (48-pitch) gear represents precision engineering in the drivetrain component category. As a 48-pitch gear, it integrates seamlessly with Traxxas's modular drivetrain architecture, which has become the standard across numerous brushless and electric RC models in the 1/10 scale range. The 76-tooth count places this gear in the mid-to-higher ratio category within Traxxas's gear selection, making it particularly effective for applications where controlled acceleration and improved low-end responsiveness are desirable. This configuration is especially popular in short course trucks, rally cars, and other vehicles where torque delivery characteristics significantly influence handling and track performance. The gear is manufactured from hardened steel or similar durable materials typical of Traxxas components, ensuring it can withstand the stresses of high-performance driving without tooth stripping or premature wear. When paired with appropriate pinion sizes (such as a 23-tooth pinion, which users report works brilliantly), this spur gear delivers measurable performance improvements that are immediately noticeable during acceleration and cornering. The precision tooth profile ensures minimal backlash, resulting in crisp throttle response and efficient power delivery throughout the entire rpm range. Whether you're running a 3S LiPo brushless system or higher-voltage configurations, this gear has been proven through real-world testing by RC enthusiasts across the UK to perform reliably and consistently, making it an excellent investment for anyone serious about optimising their Traxxas vehicle's drivetrain characteristics.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does a spur gear do in an RC car and why would I need to change it? — The spur gear is a critical drivetrain component that works with the pinion gear to transfer power from your motor to the wheels. By changing the spur gear ratio, you can tune your RC car's performance: larger tooth counts (like the 76-tooth option) provide better acceleration and torque at lower speeds, whilst smaller tooth counts favour top speed. Different running conditions—tight technical tracks, open courses, varying terrains—benefit from different gear ratios, making spur gear replacement one of the most practical performance-tuning adjustments available to RC enthusiasts in the UK.
- Is the 76-tooth spur gear suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. This spur gear is straightforward to install and doesn't require any special tools or technical expertise beyond basic RC maintenance knowledge. The installation process is a direct swap, meaning you simply remove the old gear and fit the new one. Beginners will appreciate that this is one of the most accessible performance upgrades available, making it an excellent starting point for anyone interested in tuning their Traxxas RC car for better performance.
- What vehicles does the TRX4676 76-tooth spur gear fit? — This gear is designed for Traxxas models equipped with Torque-Control slipper clutches. The compatible models listed include various versions of the Traxxas Slash 1/10 2WD brushless short course truck (including standard, Extreme HD, and different colour variants with VXL-3S systems) and the Ford Fiesta ST Rally vehicles. Always consult your specific model's owner's manual to confirm compatibility, as Traxxas designs different gears for different drivetrain configurations.
- What tooth count alternatives are available, and how does the 76-tooth compare? — Traxxas offers a complete selection of 48-pitch spur gears in various tooth counts. The 76-tooth configuration represents a mid-to-higher ratio option that emphasises acceleration and torque response. Lower tooth counts provide higher top speeds but less initial acceleration, whilst higher tooth counts offer the opposite characteristic. The 76-tooth option is particularly popular for short course trucks and rally cars where responsive acceleration and controlled handling are priorities over absolute top speed.
- Do I need any tools to install this spur gear? — Installation requires only basic RC maintenance tools typically found in any hobbyist's toolkit. No special or expensive equipment is necessary. The gear simply slots into position on your vehicle's spur gear shaft. Your vehicle's owner's manual will provide specific installation instructions to ensure proper fitting and optimal performance.
- Will this spur gear work with my RC car's existing pinion gear? — The TRX4676 is designed to work with 48-pitch pinion gears in your Traxxas drivetrain. When selecting a pinion gear to pair with this 76-tooth spur gear, ensure it's also 48-pitch. For reference, many users report excellent results pairing this gear with a 23-tooth pinion, though your specific needs may vary depending on motor size, battery voltage, and intended use. Always consult your owner's manual for recommended gearing combinations for your specific model.
