Overview
The FTX Outback Aluminium Steering Knuckles represent a premium upgrade option for owners of FTX Outback RC crawler models across the range. These precision-engineered steering components are manufactured from high-grade aluminium, offering a significant weight reduction and performance improvement over standard plastic alternatives. Whether you're a dedicated RC car enthusiast looking to enhance your Outback's handling characteristics, or a serious competitor seeking to gain every possible advantage, these steering knuckles deliver the durability and precision that separates top-tier RC setups from the rest.
Steering knuckles are critical suspension components that form the connection between your RC crawler's steering system and its wheels. As the main pivot points for directional control, they endure constant stress during off-road adventures, whether you're tackling rocky terrain, navigating tight obstacles, or executing precise manoeuvres on technical courses. Upgrading to aluminium steering knuckles from FTX is a recognised way to improve steering response, reduce flex in the suspension geometry, and ultimately achieve more consistent handling across a wide range of driving conditions. This is particularly valuable for RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand reliability and performance from their RC crawler investments.
FTX has established itself as a trusted manufacturer of quality hop-up parts and aftermarket upgrades for the RC hobby community. These aluminium steering knuckles exemplify their commitment to producing upgrades that genuinely enhance your RC experience. Whether you're building a dedicated competition crawler or simply want to take your existing Outback to the next level, these steering knuckles are a smart investment that will repay you in improved handling, better durability, and the satisfaction of driving a machine that performs at its absolute best.
Key Features
- Precision Aluminium Construction — These steering knuckles are manufactured from high-quality aluminium alloy, which offers superior rigidity compared to plastic alternatives while keeping weight to a minimum, directly improving steering response and overall handling characteristics of your RC car UK setup.
- Perfect Compatibility with FTX Outback Range — Engineered specifically for the extensive FTX Outback family of RC crawlers, these knuckles ensure drop-in fitment without modification, making them an ideal hop-up upgrade for existing Outback owners looking to enhance their machine.
- Reduced Flex and Improved Geometry — The inherent stiffness of aluminium construction minimises deflection in the steering linkage, meaning your suspension geometry remains more consistent throughout articulation, translating to more predictable and responsive steering feel.
- Pair Configuration — Supplied as a matched pair, these steering knuckles cover both sides of the front axle assembly, giving you everything needed for a complete front-end upgrade in one purchase.
- Durable and Long-Lasting — Aluminium's natural corrosion-resistant properties and superior impact resistance compared to plastic means these components will withstand season after season of serious RC crawler use and off-road punishment.
- Professional Upgrade Option — Part of FTX's comprehensive Outback Options and Spares range, these knuckles represent the kind of precision upgrade that separates weekend bashers from serious competitors and collectors.
Technical Performance
The FTX Outback Aluminium Steering Knuckles represent a significant engineering upgrade over standard plastic steering components commonly found on entry-level and mid-range RC crawlers. Manufactured from precision-cast or machined aluminium alloy, these knuckles offer exceptional rigidity whilst maintaining a weight profile superior to heavier metal alternatives like steel. The material choice is critical in RC engineering: plastic components flex under load, causing inconsistent steering geometry and unpredictable handling, whilst undersized metal knuckles can add unnecessary weight that affects suspension performance and battery runtime. FTX has struck the perfect balance with these aluminium units, delivering the structural integrity needed for serious off-road use without the weight penalty. The steering knuckle is the primary connection point between your RC crawler's steering linkage, front axle assembly, and wheel hub, meaning any improvement in rigidity and precision here translates directly to superior steering response, better directional control through obstacles, and more consistent performance in technical crawling situations. These components excel in the demanding environments where FTX Outback crawlers thrive—rocky terrain, boulder fields, and tight technical courses where precise steering input and predictable handling are essential. The aluminium construction also provides better thermal characteristics, staying cooler during extended running sessions, which helps maintain consistent performance. For UK RC enthusiasts building competitive crawler setups or simply wanting to extract maximum performance from their existing Outback platform, these steering knuckles represent excellent value and genuine performance improvement.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Which FTX Outback models do these steering knuckles fit? — These aluminium steering knuckles are designed for the FTX Outback family of RC crawlers. The FTX Outback Options range includes hop-ups and upgrades for multiple variants including the standard Outback, Outback 2.0, Outback 3.0 Paso, Outback Fury, Outback Fury XC, Outback Geo 4x4, Outback Mini X, Outback Mini XP Evo, and Outback Ranger XC. Check your specific model against the spares listing to confirm compatibility before purchase.
- Do I need spacers to fit these steering knuckles? — Spacers are not included with this pair of steering knuckles. Depending on your specific Outback model and current setup, you may or may not require spacers. If spacers are needed, they can be purchased separately as part of the FTX8132 package, so check your model's requirements before ordering.
- Will these steering knuckles improve my RC crawler's handling? — Yes, aluminium steering knuckles offer several handling benefits over plastic alternatives. The increased rigidity reduces flex in the steering linkage, which means your suspension geometry remains more consistent throughout the articulation cycle. This translates to more responsive steering input, better predictability when navigating obstacles, and improved overall control precision—benefits that both weekend enthusiasts and competitive crawlers will notice and appreciate.
- Are these steering knuckles durable for serious off-road use? — Absolutely. The aluminium alloy construction provides superior impact resistance and durability compared to plastic knuckles, making these components ideal for serious off-road crawler use. Aluminium naturally resists corrosion, and the robust engineering means these knuckles can withstand the demanding conditions of rocky terrain, boulder courses, and aggressive crawling whilst maintaining their structural integrity season after season.
- What is the difference between aluminium and plastic steering knuckles? — Aluminium steering knuckles offer several advantages over plastic alternatives. Plastic knuckles flex under load, causing inconsistent steering geometry and unpredictable handling. Aluminium provides superior rigidity, maintaining precise geometry throughout suspension articulation. Aluminium also offers better impact resistance for rocky terrain, superior durability for long-term use, and the quality feel expected from serious hop-up parts. The main trade-off is that aluminium knuckles cost more than plastic alternatives, but the performance and durability benefits make them an excellent investment for serious RC enthusiasts.
- Can I fit these myself? — These are hop-up replacement parts designed to fit directly into your FTX Outback crawler in place of the original steering knuckles. If you have basic mechanical skills and the correct tools, installation should be straightforward. However, if you're not confident working on your RC car, we recommend consulting your Outback manual or seeking assistance from an experienced RC mechanic to ensure proper fitment and alignment.
