Overview

The TLR Pinion Gear 16T, 48P, AL Z-TLR332016 is a precision-engineered aluminium pinion gear designed for RC cars and remote controlled vehicles that demand reliability and performance. This 16-tooth pinion gear is an essential drivetrain component for enthusiasts building or upgrading their radio controlled cars, whether you're a seasoned competitor or exploring the world of RC hobby racing for the first time. TLR Racing, recognised worldwide for manufacturing high-quality RC car components, has engineered this pinion gear to exacting standards, ensuring smooth engagement with your spur gear and optimal power delivery across a wide range of driving conditions.

As a UK RC retailer, RC Model Shop understands that precision gear teeth count and pitch specification are critical to achieving the perfect gearing setup for your RC vehicle. The 48-pitch specification on this TLR pinion gear makes it compatible with a wide range of modern RC cars, buggies and trucks. Whether you're fine-tuning acceleration, adjusting top speed or simply replacing a worn component in your existing setup, this aluminium pinion gear delivers the quality and durability expected from TLR Racing's product range.

The aluminium construction provides an excellent balance between weight savings and durability, making this pinion gear suitable for both casual bashers and competitive racers. If you're looking for reliable, genuine TLR Racing components to keep your RC car UK ready and performing at its best, the 16T pinion gear is an excellent choice that will serve you reliably over many hours of driving.

Key Features

  • 16-Tooth Specification — The 16-tooth configuration offers a balanced ratio that works with a wide variety of spur gears, making this pinion gear versatile for different RC car setups and driving styles without the need for multiple gears.
  • 48-Pitch Accuracy — The 48-pitch (48P) specification ensures precise engagement with matching spur gears, which is essential for smooth power transfer from your motor to the drivetrain and reduces noise, vibration and premature wear.
  • Aluminium Construction — The aluminium material provides an ideal combination of light weight and strength, helping to reduce unsprung mass whilst maintaining durability under the stresses of RC racing and high-performance driving.
  • TLR Racing Quality — TLR Racing is renowned for precision engineering and quality control, ensuring this pinion gear meets strict tolerances and delivers consistent performance across your RC hobby experience.
  • Direct Compatibility — Designed specifically as a genuine TLR Racing component, this pinion gear is engineered to work seamlessly with TLR race kits and compatible RC cars, giving you confidence in fitment and performance.

Technical Performance

The TLR Pinion Gear 16T, 48P, AL represents professional-grade engineering for RC cars and remote controlled vehicles. At 16 teeth with 48-pitch specification, this gear delivers the precision engagement required for competitive RC racing and high-performance driving. The aluminium construction ensures that weight is minimised without compromising structural integrity, which is crucial for maintaining acceleration response and overall drivetrain efficiency. The 48-pitch standard is widely recognised across the RC hobby industry, making this pinion gear compatible with a broad range of modern spur gears and RC car platforms. The precision-cut teeth ensure smooth meshing with your spur gear, reducing backlash and vibration whilst maximising power transmission efficiency from your brushless motor or engine. For those building or upgrading RC buggies, 1/10-scale vehicles and other competition-grade RC cars, precise gear ratios like this contribute directly to optimised acceleration curves and top-speed characteristics. The engineering quality reflects TLR Racing's commitment to delivering components that perform reliably in both casual driving and serious competitive environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a 48-pitch pinion gear and why does it matter for my RC car? — Pitch specification refers to the number of teeth per inch of the gear diameter. 48-pitch is a standard specification in modern RC cars, and using the correct pitch ensures your pinion gear meshes smoothly with your spur gear. Incorrect pitch can cause noise, slipping, and rapid wear. This 48P pinion gear is compatible with other 48-pitch components in your RC car UK setup.
  • How does a 16-tooth pinion gear affect my RC car's performance? — The tooth count directly influences your vehicle's gearing ratio. A 16-tooth pinion is a mid-range specification that provides a balance between acceleration and top speed. Fewer teeth (like 14T or 15T) increase top speed but reduce acceleration, whilst more teeth (like 17T or 18T) improve acceleration at the cost of lower maximum speed. The 16T is ideal for general-purpose driving and moderate racing applications.
  • Is this pinion gear suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. The TLR Pinion Gear 16T is a straightforward component replacement that doesn't require special tools or technical knowledge beyond basic RC car maintenance. If you're building an RC car from a kit or upgrading drivetrain components, this is a standard part that works with most modern RC cars. Its 48-pitch standard specification makes it a reliable choice for those new to the hobby.
  • What is the difference between aluminium and steel pinion gears? — Aluminium pinion gears, like this TLR component, are lighter and reduce overall weight in your RC car, which can improve acceleration and handling. Steel gears are heavier but offer greater durability under extreme stress and last longer in high-powered setups. For most RC enthusiasts and competitive racers, the aluminium option provides an excellent balance of performance and longevity.
  • What other components do I need to pair this pinion gear with? — This pinion gear mounts on your motor shaft and engages with a spur gear on your main transmission. You'll need a matching 48-pitch spur gear (commonly available in 70T to 90T configurations depending on your desired gearing). Make sure your RC car's drivetrain is designed for 48-pitch components to ensure proper compatibility.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — With proper maintenance, a quality aluminium pinion gear like this one will last hundreds of hours of driving. You should inspect it regularly for worn or chipped teeth. If you notice slipping, noise or difficulty engaging with your spur gear, it's time to replace it. Keeping your gears clean and properly lubricated extends their lifespan significantly.
