Key Features
- Significantly Improved RPM Performance — The G3 stock specification motor has achieved a 16% increase in KV rating and a 4% improvement in torque compared with the V10 G2 stock motor, making this unit a "secret weapon" for stock class racing and giving drivers a genuine competitive advantage in sanctioned racing events.
- First-Rate Linearity — The built-in high precision Hall sensor combined with a high precision and perfectly balanced rotor guarantees remarkable linearity of power delivery, ensuring smooth and predictable throttle response that allows drivers to apply precise control in racing situations.
- Super Lightweight Design — Weighing only 163 grams, this G3 motor is approximately 11% lighter than the V10 G2 modified motor, allowing drivers to easily adjust the weight distribution and balance of their vehicles for optimised handling characteristics.
- Asymmetric Bearing Design — The front bearing has been increased in size by 26% to improve load-carrying capacity and stability, whilst the rear bearing has been reduced in size by 6% to minimise rotational resistance, creating the ideal balance between durability and efficiency.
- Great Heat Dissipation — The special shell design exposes the stator core to the air for maximum cooling efficiency, and the 8.5T version features small-hole end plates specifically designed for off-road racing to effectively prevent sand and dirt from entering the motor whilst still allowing excellent airflow for heat management.
- Stepless Adjustable Mechanical Timing — Mechanical timing can be adjusted finely and smoothly across a range of 20 to 50 degrees, with anti-slip lines at the rear end plate guaranteeing timing stability after adjustment, allowing racers to fine-tune performance for their specific racing conditions.
- Re-buildable Structure — The detachable design allows for regular cleaning and maintenance of internal components, effectively extending the service life of the motor and maintaining peak efficiency throughout its racing career.
- Two Different End Plate Options — Whilst the motor ships with small-hole end plates ideal for off-road applications, users can purchase and install alternative big-hole end plates for on-road use, providing flexibility as your racing needs evolve.
- High-Quality Components Throughout — The motor utilises a high-performance stator core, heat-resistant pure copper wire rated to 200°C, a precision-balanced rotor with heat resistance to 200°C, international top-brand high-precision bearings, and copper solder tabs with exceptional current endurance, guaranteeing excellent performance and durability.
Technical Performance
The Hobbywing XeRun V10 G3 8.5T motor represents a masterclass in engineering precision and performance optimisation for 1/10th scale RC racing. With a KV rating of 3970, this motor is engineered to operate with 2S LiPo battery systems, delivering a maximum power output of 298 watts with an amp draw of 84 amps at peak power. The no-load current specification of 2.8 amps demonstrates excellent efficiency, meaning less energy is wasted internally and more power reaches the wheels. The sensored brushless design with Hall sensors provides smooth, linear power delivery that allows drivers to modulate throttle input with precision, critical for competitive racing where every tenth of a second counts. The motor measures 35.9mm in outer diameter and 51.2mm in length, making it compatible with most 1/10th scale racing platforms. The 3.17mm shaft diameter with a 13.3mm shaft length ensures proper fitment with standard 540 motor mounts found across the industry. Construction quality is exceptional throughout, utilising high-performance stator laminations that resist heat and maintain efficiency, pure copper windings rated to withstand continuous operation at 200°C, and a rotor system engineered with precision balancing to minimise vibration and noise. The asymmetric bearing arrangement—larger front bearing for load capacity, smaller rear bearing for reduced resistance—creates an optimal power curve that delivers both raw performance and longevity. Whether you're running on tight technical courses demanding precise throttle control, or racing on more open layouts where top-end power matters, the 8.5T configuration delivers the torque and RPM characteristics necessary for competitive success in 1/10th scale stock and drift racing categories.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What makes the XeRun V10 G3 better than the previous G2 generation? — The G3 offers 16% improved KV rating and 4% better torque compared to the G2 stock motor, combined with approximately 11% weight reduction. The asymmetric bearing design is new to G3, with the front bearing enlarged by 26% for improved load-carrying capacity and the rear bearing reduced by 6% for lower resistance. These improvements combine to deliver noticeably better performance in competitive racing situations.
- Is the XeRun V10 8.5T suitable for beginners? — This is a competition-grade motor designed primarily for racers with experience in 1/10th scale RC car operation. Whilst beginners can certainly use it, the motor's potential is best realised by drivers who understand timing adjustment, ESC tuning, and battery management. For absolute beginners, a more entry-level brushless motor might be more appropriate.
- What battery does this motor require? — The XeRun V10 G3 8.5T is engineered for 2S LiPo battery systems. A typical racing setup would use a 2S LiPo pack in the 2000-4000mAh capacity range, depending on track size and driving style. The 2S configuration provides the correct voltage (7.2-8.4V nominal depending on cell chemistry) for optimal performance at the 3970 KV rating.
- Can I adjust the timing on this motor? — Yes, mechanical timing is fully adjustable across a range of 20 to 50 degrees, allowing you to fine-tune power delivery for specific racing conditions, track layouts, and driving preferences. The adjustment mechanism features anti-slip lines to maintain stability once set. This is a significant advantage for competitive racers who want to optimise every aspect of their setup.
- What applications is this motor approved for? — The motor is specifically engineered for 1/10th scale drift racing, 2WD off-road racing, and stock class racing applications. It holds BRCA racing approval, making it suitable for sanctioned competitive events in the United Kingdom.
- How does the sensored design benefit me? — The integrated Hall sensor system provides smooth, linear throttle response with no cogging or hesitation, critical for precision racing where smooth power delivery directly translates to faster lap times. Sensored operation also allows for smoother reverse function and better low-speed control compared to sensorless designs.
- What kind of cooling does this motor have? — The special shell design exposes the stator core to ambient air, and the small-hole end plates on the 8.5T version are specifically optimised for off-road racing environments, preventing sand and dirt ingress whilst maintaining excellent cooling airflow. This design philosophy prioritises protection and longevity in dusty racing conditions.
- Can I service and maintain this motor myself? — Absolutely. The re-buildable structure features a detachable design that allows easy access to internal components for cleaning and maintenance. This design philosophy extends the service life of the motor and helps retain peak efficiency across many seasons of racing.
