  • Straightforward Operation — With simple forward and reverse capability, this controller is intuitive to use, making it an excellent choice for beginners entering the world of RC cars and remote control vehicles whilst remaining capable enough for everyday driving and bashing.
  • Direct Battery Connection — The ESC accepts direct battery input with a standard connector interface, allowing you to quickly swap batteries and get back to enjoying your RC experience.

Technical Performance

The FMS 85A 5A SBEC electronic speed controller represents solid engineering for brushed motor RC applications across the UK hobby market. At its core, this is a dedicated brushed motor controller that handles the power management and motor commutation duties efficiently. The 5 amp SBEC regulator is particularly noteworthy, as it provides clean, regulated power to your receiver and servo systems, which is critical for stable radio reception and reliable servo performance during flight or driving. This Switch-Mode Battery Elimination Circuit operates with high efficiency, converting your main battery voltage down to the 5-6 volt range required by standard RC receivers and servos whilst minimising power loss and heat generation. The compact physical dimensions make installation straightforward in most RC vehicle chassis, whether you're working with a small 1/10 scale racing car or other brushed motor RC applications. The controller delivers dependable performance with brushed motor systems, accepting standard battery input and providing intuitive forward/reverse control. Build quality is solid throughout, with proper PCB layout and component selection that ensures longevity even with regular use in demanding driving conditions and bashings.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is an SBEC and why do I need one on my RC ESC? — SBEC stands for Switch-Mode Battery Elimination Circuit. Rather than requiring a separate battery pack to power your receiver and servos, the SBEC built into this FMS controller converts your main battery voltage to a regulated 5-6 volts at up to 5 amps. This eliminates the weight and complexity of multiple battery packs, improving your model's efficiency and reducing its total weight, which is especially valuable in scale RC cars and aircraft.
  • Is the FMS 85A 5A SBEC suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. This ESC is designed with straightforward operation in mind, offering simple forward and reverse control without complicated programming menus or sensitive tuning options. If you're new to RC and looking for a reliable, no-fuss electronic speed controller, this is a solid choice. The included SBEC also means simpler battery management since you don't need separate receiver batteries.
  • What type of motors does this ESC work with? — The FMS 85A 5A SBEC is specifically designed for brushed motors. It is not compatible with brushless motors, which require different electronic switching and commutation. Make sure your RC car, truck, or aircraft uses a traditional brushed motor before selecting this controller.
  • What battery voltage and type does the FMS 85A require? — While specific voltage and battery type compatibility details should be confirmed with the product documentation, this ESC is designed to accept standard RC battery packs through its main power connector. Always verify your battery pack voltage is compatible before connecting to avoid damaging the electronics.
  • How does the 5 amp SBEC rating affect my setup? — The 5 amp output means the SBEC can provide up to 5 amps of continuous power to your receiver, servos, and accessories. For most standard RC applications with a few servos, this is more than sufficient. If you're running multiple high-torque servos or high-current accessories, verify total current draw doesn't exceed 5 amps to prevent the SBEC from shutting down for protection.
  • Can I use this ESC in different types of RC vehicles? — Yes, as long as your RC model uses a brushed motor, this speed controller can be installed in RC cars, trucks, buggies, and other brushed motor applications. The compact size and standard connectors make it adaptable to various scales and chassis types available in the UK RC market.
