Spektrum LiPo batteries are engineered to exceed expectations, offering cutting-edge performance that goes far beyond standard receiver power solutions. These batteries deliver superior output and rock-solid reliability, allowing you to push your RC vehicles to the limit without worry. If you're serious about RC racing in the UK, whether competing at national events or perfecting your driving technique at your local track, you need a receiver battery you can trust absolutely. The 1600mAh 2S 7.4V 5C configuration delivers the perfect balance between power density and runtime for receiver systems in high-performance 1/8 scale nitro buggies and truggies.
This is not a main drive battery—it's a dedicated receiver battery designed to power your steering servo, throttle servo, and receiver electronics independently from your engine and transmission power systems. This separation of power circuits is critical for maintaining clean signal transmission and preventing voltage sag that could compromise steering precision or cause receiver dropout during intense racing. When you're navigating a tight race course or executing complex manoeuvres in competitive conditions, every microsecond of control response matters, and a dedicated receiver battery ensures you maintain that edge.
Key Features
- 7.4V Two-Cell Configuration — This battery features two LiPo cells (2S) connected in series, delivering a nominal voltage of 7.4V with 3.7V per cell, which is the ideal voltage for powering modern RC receiver systems and servo electronics without requiring voltage regulators or converters.
- 1600mAh Capacity — With 1600 milliamp-hours of capacity, this battery provides sufficient runtime for extended practice sessions, multiple heats during race day, or several hours of casual bashing, all while maintaining voltage stability throughout the discharge cycle.
- 5C Discharge Rate — The 5C continuous discharge rating means this battery can safely deliver 8 amps of current continuously (1600mAh × 5C = 8A), which is more than adequate for the draw demands of servo systems and receiver electronics, even when operating multiple high-torque servos simultaneously.
- Compact Lightweight Design — Weighing just 61 grams and measuring 84mm in length by 14mm in height, this battery is small enough to fit in tight battery compartments without adding significant weight that would affect your vehicle's handling characteristics or balance.
- No Hard Case — This battery comes in a soft case configuration, which minimises weight and packaging bulk whilst still providing basic protection for the cells during transport and storage, making it ideal for space-constrained receiver battery boxes.
- Advanced LiPo Chemistry — Spektrum LiPo cells are engineered using advanced lithium polymer chemistry that delivers consistent voltage output, excellent cycle life, and extended longevity compared to older battery technologies, meaning you get more charge cycles before capacity degradation becomes noticeable.
- Superior Output and Reliability — Spektrum's manufacturing process focuses on quality control and consistency, ensuring every battery meets exacting performance standards so you can rely on identical performance from battery to battery across multiple race days or practice sessions.
- 5C Maximum Charge Rate — The battery can be safely charged at up to 5C charging rate (8 amps in this case), allowing reasonably quick turnaround times between practice runs or race heats without requiring specialist high-current charging equipment.
- Receiver Battery Optimised — Unlike general-purpose LiPo batteries, this cell is specifically engineered for receiver duty, with internal resistance and discharge characteristics optimised for the relatively low-current but consistent power demands of servo and receiver electronics.
Technical Performance
The Spektrum 7.4V 1600mAh 2S 5C Receiver LiPo Battery represents the pinnacle of dedicated receiver battery engineering for competitive RC vehicles in the UK and internationally. Built with advanced lithium polymer cell chemistry, this battery delivers the rock-solid reliability demanded by serious racers and weekend enthusiasts alike. The two-cell configuration provides 7.4V nominal output, which matches perfectly with modern RC servo systems and receivers that were designed around standard two-cell LiPo voltage levels. This native voltage compatibility eliminates the need for voltage regulators or converters, reducing potential points of failure and ensuring clean, unfiltered power delivery to your control electronics. The 1600mAh capacity represents a carefully calculated compromise between weight, runtime, and space requirements specific to 1/8 scale nitro buggies and truggies. At just 61 grams, this battery adds minimal mass to your vehicle, preserving the precise weight distribution that makes the difference in competitive racing. The 5C discharge rating provides 8 amps of continuous current capacity, which exceeds the typical draw of even high-torque servo systems with multiple servos operating simultaneously, whilst the 5C maximum charge rate (also 8 amps) allows for practical charge times using standard RC chargers. The soft case construction keeps weight to an absolute minimum whilst still providing adequate protection for the delicate LiPo cells during transport, storage, and pit side operations. Whether you're running a Team Losi Racing 8ight-X/E 2.0 Race Buggy Kit at a ROAR national championship event or practising at your local RC track, this battery delivers the precision, consistency, and reliability that separates winners from the field.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a receiver battery and why do I need a dedicated one for my nitro RC car? — A receiver battery provides independent power to your RC receiver, servos, and control electronics, separate from the engine and transmission power systems. Using a dedicated receiver battery prevents voltage sag from engine loads affecting your steering and throttle response, which is critical for maintaining precise control during racing. Nitro engines create large current spikes through the main power system; a separate receiver battery ensures your control electronics always have clean, stable voltage.
- Is the Spektrum 7.4V 1600mAh 2S 5C battery suitable for beginners? — Yes, this battery is excellent for beginners using 1/8 scale nitro buggies or truggies. The 2S voltage is standard across modern RC systems, and the 1600mAh capacity provides plenty of runtime for learning. The relatively modest 5C discharge rate also makes it forgiving in terms of charge management compared to higher-specification batteries.
- What is the difference between this receiver battery and a main drive battery? — Receiver batteries are optimised for low-current, consistent power delivery to electronics, whilst main drive batteries are engineered for very high current discharge to power motors. A receiver battery cannot safely power a motor (it would overheat and fail), and using a main drive battery as a receiver battery creates voltage regulation issues that compromise control precision. Always use the correct battery type for each application.
- How long will this battery last on a single charge during a race? — The 1600mAh capacity typically provides 30 minutes to several hours of runtime depending on how many servos you're running and their duty cycle. Servo draw is relatively modest compared to motors, so receiver batteries generally outlast main drive batteries by several times, often lasting through multiple race heats on a single charge.
- Can I charge this battery with my existing RC charger? — Most modern RC chargers support 2S LiPo batteries and can charge at rates up to or exceeding 5C. Verify your charger supports LiPo chemistry and 2S configuration before charging. Always use a charger with LiPo-specific safety features and balance charging capability to ensure safe operation and maximum battery lifespan.
- What makes Spektrum receiver batteries different from generic alternatives? — Spektrum batteries undergo rigorous quality control and are engineered specifically by specialists in RC electronics. They deliver consistent performance batch-to-batch, support longer service life through advanced cell chemistry, and are designed by engineers who understand RC system requirements intimately. This translates to more reliable performance, especially critical during competitive racing where equipment failure costs races.
