Overview

TLR Silicone Shock Oil in 30WT viscosity is a precision-engineered suspension fluid designed specifically for RC racing applications. Manufactured by Team Losi Racing, one of the world's leading RC racing brands, this shock oil delivers consistent performance across a range of track conditions and temperatures. Whether you're fine-tuning your RC buggy UK, preparing for competitive racing, or maintaining your RC car UK between track days, this silicone shock oil is an essential pit bag item for any serious RC enthusiast.

The 30WT specification with a viscosity rating of 338CST provides a medium-weight suspension fluid that balances compliance and responsiveness. This particular viscosity is ideal for drivers seeking moderate damping characteristics, making it suitable for both on-road and off-road racing applications. The 2oz bottle size is perfectly proportioned for multiple shock servicing sessions or fine-tuning adjustments at the racetrack, ensuring you have enough fluid to experiment with different suspension setups without waste.

TLR shock oils are formulated to meet the exacting standards of modern RC racing, where suspension tuning can mean the difference between victory and defeat. As part of Team Losi Racing's comprehensive range of RC racing accessories and maintenance products, this silicone shock oil works in harmony with other TLR pit equipment and tools to help you achieve peak performance from your ready to run RC or race kit vehicle.

Key Features

  • 30WT Viscosity Rating — This medium-weight specification provides balanced suspension damping, offering a middle ground between lighter and heavier oils for drivers who need a versatile shock fluid that performs well across varying track conditions and driving styles.
  • 338CST Kinematic Viscosity — The precise CST (centistoke) measurement ensures consistent viscosity at standard temperatures, allowing for repeatable tuning and predictable suspension behaviour lap after lap.
  • Silicone Formulation — Premium silicone-based shock oil resists breakdown from heat and shearing forces experienced during intense RC racing, maintaining consistent performance throughout extended track sessions and multiple races.
  • 2oz Bottle Size — The convenient 2oz bottle provides enough suspension fluid for servicing multiple shocks or making several viscosity adjustments without creating excess inventory, making it ideal for pit bag storage and trackside use.
  • Team Losi Racing Quality — Manufactured by TLR, a brand trusted by professional RC racers worldwide, this shock oil meets the same precision standards used in competition-level RC vehicles and is recommended by TLR engineers.
  • Suspension Tuning Control — By adjusting shock oil viscosity, RC drivers can fine-tune suspension compliance, bump compliance, and overall handling characteristics to match their driving style and track conditions.

Technical Performance

TLR Silicone Shock Oil at 30WT represents a critical component of suspension tuning for RC vehicles at all competitive levels. The 338CST viscosity measurement is derived from kinematic viscosity testing, which measures how the oil flows at standardised temperatures, ensuring batch-to-batch consistency. Silicone-based shock fluids like this formulation are engineered to provide superior thermal stability compared to cheaper petroleum-based alternatives, maintaining their viscosity characteristics even as suspension components heat up during high-speed cornering and aggressive acceleration. The medium weight of 30WT places this product in the middle of TLR's shock oil range, making it an excellent starting point for drivers new to suspension tuning or those running vehicles in varied conditions. The silicone composition prevents oxidation and gumming, which can occur with inferior shock fluids and lead to inconsistent damping characteristics. Professional RC racers often carry multiple viscosity grades in their pit bags to make real-time adjustments based on track conditions, track temperature, and observed vehicle behaviour, and this 30WT option serves as a reliable middle ground in such tuning protocols.

What You Need to Complete

This shock oil is designed to work with any RC vehicle that uses oil-damped shocks. To use this product effectively, you will need a compatible RC vehicle with shock absorbers, shock servicing equipment (typically including shock caps, o-rings, and shock pistons if performing full maintenance), and optionally a shock oil syringe or measuring device for precise viscosity mixing if you plan to blend different weights for custom tuning.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the 30WT and 338CST specification mean, and how do I know if this is the right viscosity for my RC car? — The 30WT (weight) and 338CST (centistoke) measurements both indicate viscosity, with 338CST being the more precise scientific measurement. 30WT is a medium-weight shock oil that works well for general-purpose RC racing across multiple disciplines. If your vehicle feels too stiff and bouncy, you need a lighter oil (lower number). If it feels too soft and wallows, you need a heavier oil (higher number). This 30WT sits in the middle and is ideal for drivers beginning suspension tuning or running vehicles in varied conditions.
  • Is TLR Silicone Shock Oil suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. Whilst suspension tuning can be complex, starting with a medium-weight oil like 30WT removes the guesswork and provides a solid baseline. Beginners should use this as their starting point, and if they find their RC buggy or RC car handling is off, they can then experiment with lighter or heavier weights. TLR's range includes multiple viscosity options so you can dial in your setup as your skills improve.
  • What is the difference between 30WT and other TLR shock oil weights? — Team Losi Racing manufactures shock oils in multiple weights to suit different driving styles and conditions. The 27.5WT (294CST) is lighter and better for softer suspension compliance, whilst 37.5WT (468CST), 40WT (516CST), 45WT (610CST), and 50WT (710CST) are progressively heavier for stiffer damping. The 30WT sits between the lightest option and the medium-heavy options, making it versatile for both on-road racing and off-road buggy/truggy applications.
  • Can I mix different viscosity shock oils together? — Yes, professional RC racers often blend different weights to achieve custom viscosity ratings. However, this requires careful measurement and is best done with proper shock oil syringes or measuring tools to ensure consistency. Start with one weight and only experiment with blending once you understand how individual weights affect your vehicle's handling.
  • Is this silicone shock oil compatible with all RC vehicles? — This shock oil is designed for any RC vehicle that uses oil-damped shocks, including RC buggies, trucks, truggy vehicles, and on-road race cars. It is compatible with shocks from TLR and most other major manufacturers. Always check your vehicle's documentation to confirm shock compatibility before use.
  • How long does one 2oz bottle last? — One 2oz bottle typically services multiple shocks or provides enough fluid for several viscosity adjustments. A single shock absorber generally requires less than 1oz of oil, so one bottle should cover servicing or tuning for four to six suspension components depending on shock size and whether you're performing full services or just top-ups.
