If you're serious about RC crawling in the UK and want a platform that gives you complete control over your build, the VRD Builders Kit is an excellent choice.
As an unassembled kit, this product requires motors, electronics, batteries, tyres, wheels, body, and radio equipment to be completed — making it perfect for builders who already have spare parts or who want to select every component themselves. This approach offers maximum flexibility and helps you control your overall budget whilst maintaining professional-quality engineering in the chassis and drivetrain components.
Key Features
- VFD Transmission with 6.5% Overdrive — The heart of the VRD is the proven Vanquish VFD transmission, equipped with a 6.5% overdrive transfer case that improves turning and climbing performance without stressing your electronics. This transmission positions the motor forward and low for ideal weight distribution, giving you better handling and more predictable performance on obstacles.
- F10 Straight Axles — Widely praised for exceptional durability, precise engineering, and smooth performance, the F10 axles feature a high clearance design that minimises pumpkin size whilst maximising strength around the C-hub and knuckle. This design philosophy ensures you get maximum articulation without sacrificing structural integrity.
- 3mm Aluminium Frame Rails with 6-Degree Flat Skid Plate — The chassis heart is constructed from 3mm thick aluminium frame rails mated to a 6-degree flat bottom skid plate, creating a rigid yet lightweight foundation. This design keeps the VFD transmission as low as possible in the chassis, contributing to the low centre of gravity that's essential for stability and control.
- Low Centre of Gravity Design — By combining low-mounted electronics and battery positioning with a forward-biased motor position, the VRD allows you to optimise your build for top performance. This layout improves weight distribution, enhances handling, and helps prevent tip-overs on challenging terrain.
- Incision 90mm S8E Shocks with Advanced Damping — The suspension system features 90mm shocks with 8mm bore aluminium threaded bodies, dual X-ring seals, locking preload collars, keyed spring cups, and polished steel shock shafts. Multiple shock mounting locations and tunable shock lengths give you a high range of ride height and breakover adjustments to dial in your setup perfectly.
- Servo-on-Axle 4-Link Front Suspension — The front suspension prioritises steering effectiveness with a servo-on-axle configuration and a four-link design using stainless steel links for low weight and durability. This setup ensures responsive, precise steering that's critical for competition-level crawling.
- Full Ball Bearing Construction — The VFD transmission and F10 axles feature full ball bearing and metal gear construction throughout, providing exceptional strength and longevity for worry-free performance, whether you're practising or competing.
- ISD10 Driveshafts with Machined CV Joints — The ISD10 driveshafts that connect the VFD to the F10 axles feature machined CV joints and molded splined shafts for smooth, efficient power delivery without vibration or binding.
- 49-Degree Steering Angle — The VDI front axle shafts provide an impressive 49-degree steering angle, giving you the articulation needed to navigate tight obstacles and make sharp turns in technical terrain.
- Chromoly Universal Axle Shafts — For strength where it counts, universal axle shafts are constructed from chromoly, a high-strength steel alloy that resists breaking under the stresses of rock crawling and competition use.
- Sintered Metal 30T Ring Gear and 8T Pinion — The axles are equipped with sintered metal ring gears (30T) and machined pinion gears (8T), providing the strength and precision needed for reliable power transfer and durability under load.
- Molded Chassis Components with Multiple Mounting Positions — The VRD chassis uses molded components that provide a tunable platform to adapt to the most demanding terrain. Multiple shock and body mounting positions combined with minimalist front and rear interchangeable bumpers make body mounting and fitment straightforward.
- Stamped Aluminium Rock Sliders — Protect your chassis and provide flat mounting locations for electronics and battery with the stamped aluminium rock sliders, which can support and protect your body whilst offering practical utility.

Technical Performance
The Vanquish VRD Builders Kit is engineered for competition-level rock crawling performance with careful attention to weight distribution, structural integrity, and tuning flexibility. The VFD transmission's 6.5% overdrive gives a 47.6:1 overall front ratio and 50.8:1 overall rear ratio when paired with the standard 13T pinion and 56T spur gear setup (both 32P), resulting in a 3.75:1 axle gear ratio that provides excellent torque and control for crawling. The 318mm (12.5-inch) wheelbase is optimised for scale appearance whilst maintaining agility, and the 182mm (7.17-inch) axle width (front and rear, pin to pin) provides excellent stability and traction. This 1/10 scale rock crawler is built from quality materials throughout: 3mm aluminium frame rails ensure rigidity without excessive weight, sintered metal gearing provides durability in the drivetrain, and stainless steel suspension links resist corrosion whilst keeping unsprung mass low. The Incision 90mm S8E shocks with adjustable preload and multiple mounting locations give you the suspension tuning range necessary to optimise performance for various terrain types, from smooth competition courses to rocky technical obstacles. The servo-on-axle 4-link front suspension design prioritises steering response and control, essential for navigating tight crawling lines. Battery compatibility includes packs up to 35mm × 35mm × 100mm in size, giving you flexibility in power selection. Motor compatibility with both brushed and brushless 540-size motors means you can choose your powerplant based on preference and budget — whether you want proven brushed reliability or brushless efficiency and speed. This is a builders kit aimed at intermediate to advanced hobbyists who understand what components are needed to complete an RC vehicle and who appreciate the engineering quality of every major system.
