Overview

The Traxxas Springs, Rear (progressive, +20% rate, Blue) (2 pcs) TRX6868 are precision-engineered suspension components designed specifically for the Traxxas Slash 4X4 short course truck. These custom-wound progressive-rate springs represent a significant upgrade over stock components, allowing RC enthusiasts across the UK to fine-tune their truck's handling characteristics with professional-grade precision. Whether you're a competitive racer looking to dial in your setup for race day, a weekend basher seeking improved performance on varied terrain, or an RC car UK hobbyist exploring suspension tuning options, these springs deliver measurable improvements in handling and control.

Progressive-rate spring technology is a hallmark of advanced suspension design in the RC hobby. Unlike traditional linear springs that compress at a consistent rate throughout their travel, these Traxxas progressive springs offer a unique dual-benefit approach to suspension tuning. The innovative design allows your Slash 4X4 to maintain small-bump compliance—meaning it absorbs minor track imperfections and bumps smoothly—while simultaneously providing the robust support needed for big-hit capability when landing jumps or hitting larger obstacles. This means your truck will feel more planted and responsive across a wider variety of driving conditions, delivering superior control whether you're navigating tight corners or powering through technical terrain.

Available in four distinct rates to suit virtually any setup preference, these springs are colour-coded for easy identification and sold in convenient pairs specifically matched for rear suspension use. The +20% rate (blue) springs sit at the stiffer end of the tuning spectrum, making them ideal for drivers who want increased suspension stiffness to reduce chassis roll, improve handling precision, or accommodate additional weight such as upgraded 550 motor combos. The durable powdercoated finish ensures these springs maintain their good looks and functionality through countless hours of bashing and racing.

Key Features

  • Progressive-rate design — Unlike conventional springs with linear rate curves, the progressive-rate design delivers small-bump compliance without compromising big-hit capability, giving your Slash 4X4 superior handling across varied terrain and track conditions.
  • Custom-wound specifically for Slash 4X4 — Each spring is precisely engineered and manufactured for the Traxxas Slash 4X4 platform, ensuring perfect fitment and optimised performance with your truck's suspension geometry.
  • +20% stiffer than stock — The blue-coded springs increase suspension stiffness by 20% compared to factory springs, delivering reduced chassis pitch, improved cornering stability, and better support for additional weight modifications.
  • Durable powdercoated finish — The protective powdercoat provides long-lasting good looks and corrosion resistance, so your springs maintain their appearance through mud, water, and extensive use.
  • Colour-coded identification — The bright blue finish makes these springs instantly identifiable, eliminating confusion when managing multiple spring rates in your tuning arsenal.
  • Sold in pairs — Each package contains two rear-length springs, the complete set needed for your Slash 4X4's rear suspension, with no additional springs required.
  • Part of comprehensive tuning range — These springs are one of four available rates (orange 20% softer, green 10% softer, blue 20% stiffer, pink 10% stiffer), allowing you to dial in exactly the handling characteristics you need.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas TRX6868 springs represent a significant engineering achievement in RC suspension tuning. Built with meticulous attention to detail, these springs are manufactured to the same exacting standards that Traxxas applies across its range of 1/10 scale short course trucks. The progressive spring design utilises a variable rate curve that begins soft for small-bump sensitivity, then progressively stiffens as compression increases, providing the dual benefit of absorption and support. This engineering approach is particularly valuable in competitive RC racing UK environments where milliseconds of advantage matter, and handling consistency determines race outcomes. The +20% rate specification makes these springs approximately 20 percent stiffer than the stock Slash 4X4 springs, translating to measurably reduced chassis roll in corners, improved body control during acceleration and braking, and enhanced support when your truck lands from significant jumps. The powdercoat finish is applied after manufacturing, creating a protective layer that resists chipping and corrosion whilst maintaining the springs' visual appeal. These springs excel with a variety of modifications, including upgraded 550-size motor combos that add weight and require additional suspension support. Real-world user feedback confirms that proper preload clip adjustment is essential for optimal performance, particularly when transitioning from stock springs or installing these on upgraded shocks like big-bore units. The springs have demonstrated particular effectiveness in reducing pitch during cornering and improving jump performance with heavier motor setups.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a progressive-rate spring and why does it matter for my Slash 4X4? — A progressive-rate spring compresses at a variable rate rather than a fixed rate throughout its travel. This means the spring feels softer initially, absorbing small bumps and track imperfections smoothly, but becomes progressively stiffer as it compresses further. This delivers the best of both worlds: your truck feels compliant and responsive on small obstacles whilst maintaining robust support for big hits like jumps. This translates to better overall handling, improved consistency lap-to-lap, and a truck that feels more forgiving to drive across varied terrain.
  • What does +20% rate mean and who should use these springs? — The +20% rate indicates these springs are 20 percent stiffer than the stock Traxxas Slash 4X4 springs. This stiffer setup reduces chassis roll during cornering, improves handling precision, and provides additional support for heavier setups. These springs suit drivers running upgraded 550 motor combos, those seeking improved cornering stability, or competitors who prefer a stiffer platform for consistent handling characteristics. If you're running stock weight and enjoy a more compliant ride, you might prefer the softer rates (orange 20% softer or green 10% softer).
  • Are these springs compatible with big-bore shocks and aftermarket suspension upgrades? — Yes, these springs are designed for the Slash 4X4 platform and will fit both stock and upgraded shock bodies including big-bore units. However, user feedback indicates that proper preload clip adjustment is critical for optimal performance, particularly when upgrading from stock springs to these stiffer units or when using non-stock shock bodies.
  • How do I know which spring rate to choose? — Traxxas offers four colour-coded rates: orange (20% softer), green (10% softer), blue (20% stiffer), and pink (10% stiffer). Start with your truck's current performance. If it feels too stiff or rolls excessively, try softer springs. If it bottoms out easily or feels too soft over jumps, try stiffer springs. The blue +20% springs suit heavier setups and drivers who want improved cornering stability.
  • Do I need to adjust anything when installing these springs? — Yes, proper preload clip adjustment is essential. The springs may feel tight when installing onto stock shocks, but they fit perfectly with proper preload clip positioning. If you're using big-bore shocks, these springs are reported to install and perform excellently. Take time to adjust preload clips correctly to ensure the springs sit at the right height and ride position.
  • Will these springs really improve my truck's handling? — Based on user feedback, yes. Owners report noticeable improvements including reduced pitch in corners, better jump performance, improved handling over varied terrain, and enhanced overall control. The progressive-rate design delivers measurable benefits across a wide range of driving styles and conditions, making these springs a worthwhile investment for any Slash 4X4 owner seeking suspension tuning.
